The sad fact is being both progressive and a conservative does make complete sense if you use the classic definitions. Preserve that systems that made your society great ( system of checks and balances for example) while identify what about it needs to change and how to change it ( MLK ) . Historically Europe has always been at around that percentage, with the advent of the industrial revolution hitting Europe earlier for many reasons, Europe for the past few centuries has vastly over represented herself in terms of economic percentage. Mind you, Europe is not a rich continent naturally, and historically Europe has been overshadowed by the near east and North Africa in terms of pre-industrial output.
Now for the United States, it is very obvious why the US would be very representative of GDP, a relatively high population united state with a large landmass larger than the European continent by many times. Although much of that GDP is bloated by many firms transferring their financial net worths after WWII, the US is currently the Europe of the industrial revolution and imperial era, nations such as Nigeria, India and China in the far future will absolutely dominate global geopolitics. For Europe to stay relevant, they’d have to somehow unite the continent under a nation notoriously good at economics, and be willing to adopt a more growth focused instead of welfare focused economy. this will drastically increase European GDP to levels higher than the US, this will never happen however.

I think the most important contribution of this series is not how completely correct his arguments are, which is always up for debate with these issues, but how it is a fearless attempt to start a conversation. We don’t get anywhere by fighting over who is the most qualified expert to make blanket statements about what is true. We progress as a society by wrestling with issues that are far bigger than us, with patience and humility but also boldness and honesty.

Yes, it is important to wrestle with these issues, and there is too much of a tendency to pick ones favorite talking head and everything follows from that. And that's why I feel the need to point out a fundamental error on the gender issue.
Notwithstanding some valid facts and reasonable conclusions of the UL'er, he begins in the middle of the story with 20th century postmodern gender theory, skipping over the prior study of gender variance as an observable phenomenon, subject to scientific study. The 1st one is really easy to grasp but people don't want to. Morality is much more of a way to stop your society and or ingroup from weakening itself and is more a subset of practicality that grew more complex and caused us to feel good as we were doing something effective for the group. Today instead of making morality a subset of practicality it's flipped so we do things to feel good while hurting the group and that's why we're seeing problems not commonly seen as severely in history despite our knowledge and wealth. A followup I didn't want to post 5 minutes after watching: Your idea of humans being separate to animals through our awareness of time is digging in the right places, but besides the core point. Many higher intelligence species show an awareness to time and death (crows and elephants have "funerals" for their loved ones, and they constantly plan and remember yearly events. they can solve time related puzzles in experiments, etc. ). What *really* distinguishes us is language. now yet again, some animals have this (dolphins and Orcas give each other names, and have vocal structures so unique to each pod they act as regional cultures) but the main thing is the sheer level of abstraction we are capable of. The origins of which are from a double mutation of the FOX-P2 gene. (Fun Fact: Chimps can do basic math far faster than a human and we believe it's because they lack this. but it's also why humans have such a wider range of mental disabilities compared to most primates. Our very brains are pushed to their design limits. But it's worth it to have a slower, yet far more creative mental dynamic). But where you get on to something again is touching on the stoned ape theory. We most definitely had these mutations well into 70k years ago, but what may have happened is the sudden explosive use of psychedelics could have created the earliest foundations for ritual, music, and most integrally: religion as a form of ultra efficient social bonding (Dr. Connor Wood has an excellent paper on this. He also did an interview on it with the channel religionforbreakfast). This was probably done annually, and got large mostly sparse groups of hunter gathers talking and trusting one another within one night of partying. When you can get large groups of people to get together and mostly not kill each other, you get society.

There's tons of videos talking about the other things that shaped our intelligence, such as human domestication evens, and the feedback loop between age and sociability. (basically, we became as smart and and long lived as a primate can be. This is because older people can't hunt, but they can raise infants as the others do, and big brains mean a longer, more vulnerable childhood. The saying, 'it takes a village to raise a child" is quite literally how this was designed to work) As for the relationship to ritual, music, and religion I recommend just checking out the interview religionforbreakfast did with Dr. Wood. On the Garden of Eden topic, it’s been theorized that the location was in modern day Persian Gulf. The evidence behind the theory is based off original Hebrew translations of the Old Testament and off of translations of similar myths compounded with topographical data of what the Middle East looked like during the ice age. In the story, it’s stated that the Euphrates and Tigris met with two other rivers. Using the data, they found evidence of two other rivers (one spawning in Saudi Arabia and the other in Iran) that met in the Persian Gulf, which was a fertile valley during that time. The Garden of Eden is most likely a story evolved from the Sumerian creation story since it’s theorized that their ancestors came from that valley when it became flooded. I would say that the center for the start of critical thinking and myth creation actually came from a place in Siberia just north of Mongolia.

I loved this series. My primary criticism is that your definition of "Darwinism" has virtually nothing to do with Darwin, who specifically dealt with biology. His foundational theory of biodiversity (the evolution of species / descent with inherent modification) is merely scientific, not philosophical (though it was philosophically disruptive, as science often is). Evolutionary biology has since developed far beyond Darwin, so that our current understanding of evolution has as little to do with Darwin as our understanding of gravity has to do with Newton. Your use of the term "Darwin"/"Darwinism" seems to relate to a colloquial abstraction of Darwinian concepts into non-biological systems.
This difference is not just pedantic. The statement that the Nazis were Darwinists is a common myth. In reality, the Nazis rejected Darwin's science and instead believed that God had specially created separate races of humans. Meanwhile, Darwin and his fellows argued that there was only one extant race of humans, which turned out to be correct. (Race/Breed/Subspecies are identical concepts, biologically.)

Nazis hated god and actively fought against the church, in fact they tried to replace the church with their own and even created a massive cathedral worshipping Nazism and created an entire mythology to raise the Aryan race onto a pedestal and lower other races far below it. If anything Nazism tried to replaced god and the church with their own version.

Not from himself directly, Darwin brought on the concept of the survival of the fittest. Hitler himself thought in terms of nations fighting for survival. The way the Nazis were to create an a new era based on a new religion was through artistry and myth-making. The artistry was the aesthetic delivery of the message and the myth, or pseudo-history to justify it all. Much like scientific socialism, there was no science behind it at all, but merely a narrative, or explanation to justify belief.

This reminds of a good deal of social theory which for decades has posited that mass society breeds alienation and that increasing numbers of men would refuse to participate in family life or economic competition. Trends like equality of the sexes, the end of the military draft, and free trade have tended to atomize people and to lead to more of a drop-out sensibility.

I view myself objectively. Even though I like myself and know why I am still lacking in certain areas that, in my opinion, objectively lower my own value (it sounds harsh but hear me), I still feel the strong need to better myself in those aspects I feel lacking in. These are really basic, root-level things, like beauty (overweight, not well groomed enough), value for others (providing others with things I feel are valuable, like a pleasant companionship and genuine help to better their lives), or value through creation (simple creative work such as art or even things that can be directly monetized). This has been with me ever since I was a kid, it's something within all of us, and I think that's at least part of darwinism, if not its core. Ironically, a large part of the reason I still like myself is because I feel like simply acknowledging this feeling of darwinism within us instead of forcibly rejecting it already gives me a virtue that seems to be generally lost today. If someone were to tell me "Hey, you're fat, and it makes you less beautiful," I'd be hurt, but agree with them completely, and in fact thank them for being truthful with me (unless they intended it to be a malicious attack on my ego rather than anything else). This has been the thing driving me especially lately, and it feels good to have it work as a compass for me. It tells me exactly what I need to better about myself and just do in general.

Over the course of the story she is redeemed and returns to good and helps the young ingenue realize that true love is not the romantic lie we have been sold about sexual love, but rather true love is the transcendent selfless love of a parent of Godparent. You don't have to believe in God to see that the religious books of every major religion lay out the morals and values that define modern western culture. That's why when we separated church and state we kept things like murder and rape illegal, before the widespread of the Abrahamic religions there were alot of ways to legally justify rape and murder in 80% of the "civilized world" atleast. Now, we see those things as innately evil, but it was less than 1000 years ago that someone had to come along and teach humans that those things were wrong.
