Originally, the Skyway was built directly above Indianapolis Blvd. from the state line to where it begins to climb toward the main span. Then in the late 90s, the elevated portion was dismantled and the roadway was placed on a raised embankment. You can still see the original guard rail (which intrigued me to no end when I was little) just past the state line in Indiana.

So we don't have an ocean, so what, we have a giant lake, plus we had an ocean thousands of year ago. Home to the skyscraper and the late great Bourdain conceding the Chicago dog as the best...life is good today.

In my travels as a trucker, my take on Chicago is that it has great potential to be an amazing city. The deep dish pizza at Lou Malnatis is PHENOMENAL, the climate is very nice most of the year, and it has lots of green areas, not just a forrest of steel and concrete like other cities. All they need to do is finish the countless road construction projects they have going on, which makes driving thru Chicago a NIGHTMARE.
