- The Derina Harvey Band have stolen a moment to appreciate the natural wonder and beauty present during the long harsh winter months with Don Fulford’s Canadian cultural classic, Northern Lights of Labrador (originally released by the well-loved east coast duo, Corey and Trina in 1978). Derina’s impassioned vocal delivery melts the frost of isolation, illuminating the connection between environment and mental health while wrapping you in warm ribbons of dancing light; the light which painted the night skies of her youth in rural Western Labrador. The ode to eastern Canada’s “Big Land” is lightly adorned with a minimalistic arrangement by her band.

I saw the Derina Harvey Band last night in a little venue in homestead florida.
Derina kicked off her shoes, unplugged her guitar, came to.the very front of the stage amd performed this song solo, unplugged and with no mic.
It was one of the most powerful and genuine performances I have ever seen, and there were tears flowing down my cheeks, as well as the 2 women in front of me amd several behind... and Derina herself was crying at the end.
See this band!!!!! They are amazing, and fun, and it will be a night you will not soon forget. I promise!!!!

I've never heard another version of this song until now----WOW---i sing with a group in the Stephenville area---we do mostly IRISH-NL songs. We've done the northern lights when we know someone is from Labrador(I worked in Wabush for 32 years) I know the Harvey family & heard them sing many times at fund raisers. This is by far this best I've heard this song sung---I still have goosebumps from playing it. Great job Derina. Thank you.

I just recently heard about this Band. I really get all the feels for a lot of the songs.... This one is beautiful just absolutely lovely. And I also really like all the sea shanties. What a lovely rendition of this ballad... My grandson played this for me. Many memories of the big land. Most are bad, some were good and the good ones were very good, indeed. We were in a rush to “burn the boats” and get out of that bloody work. I am sorry things are not going well these days it seems but it will get better. You will get “yours” as Mr. William Coaker promised many years ago. We musn’t ever forget the good people of Labrador or the outports. Thank you again for this.
Well, that made me weepy! Born and raised in Labrador, and the images of this favourite song, along with the power of Derina's voice, made me want to jump on a plane and get back there. As a kid, I used to lie on the snowbanks and watch them dance over my head, and when it was really quiet, you could hear them. Thank you.
