  • Winter camping in the snow or camping in cold weather? Well why not camp with a space heater? Heating a tent with a space heater? Does that actually work? Heating you tent isn't rocket science, there are tons of options out there, if you have any questions please let me know in the comments below. This is a quick winter overlanding/camping video talking about space heaters in your tent and whether or not it works. It's a new series I'm doing so if you have suggestions for Myths to bust type them out in the comments, maybe I'll use your suggestion?

    Nice video. I have that same little heater along with an EcoFlow but haven’t tested it in winter myself yet. Interested in getting a diesel heater so I will be looking forward to seeing the rest of your series.

      The eco flow is great with the diesel heater, hardly uses any electricity. Going to do a video soon on the diesel heater but I think it's really great. Only thing Id caution about is not filling them up all the way with fuel and then doing heavy offroading. Keep it at about 75% full and you wont even use that much.

    I've been using that exact small black Honeywell heater, and I plug it into one of those old manual Christmas light timers with the push/pull timing adjustment. It only has adjustments in 30 minute increments though. But it lets me have it run for 30 minutes, and shut off for 30, that's my usual setting.
    Occasionally I use a heated blanket too. That draws less power.
    I use an insulated rooftop tent btw.

    • @OXFOOT

    I have been thinking of using a white gas catalytic heater like the ones Coleman makes as aa tent heater. I've used them years ago and I can't remember how long a tank lasts but it worked really well but I really don't know how long ? I don't know if two would be too much depending on the size of the area being heated but two would be worth trying for colder weather.

    For the little Honeywell, what do you think about bringing the tent up to temp with the buddy heater and then turning the Honeywell on low and see how it maintains? I always get a winter campsite with electricity and run a mini space heater ( a little smaller than the honey ) and it works great in my two person heater. I face it towards my queen blow up mattress and it heats that up as well as the tent all night long. Much safer than a gas heater!

    • @OXFOOT

    Diesel heater is so far only option what works in tents, anything else is crazy inefficient.
    For just a bit colder night heated blanket works well, I got nice and fluffy one in king size (tent is bigger than that), starts at 100-150W and then runs at 80W so you can easily run it over night and charge back with solar during day.

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  Před 2 měsíci

      For the most part what I typically run is a heated blanket and then if it’s colder I’ll either run a diesel heater (which is what I recommend for most folks) or my propex (a lot more expensive than most folks need but likely the best heater possible)

    • @grottu

      Comfort of use is way higher, specially that I completely do not trust all that cheap diesel heaters what are basically copy of webasto. Never seen webasto on fire and with this I could trust to have it mounted nicely, Chinese copies have to be in place where it won’t burn down anything else then itself 🤣

      @@metaglypto Yeah I think that it's perfectly fine to do that though, I've probably said that in the past. I would actually say about 50/50 I put it on top or beneath. In my case because I have a great mattress pad I prefer to put it on top because I won't lose too much but when I'm with my GF we would put it beneath.
