Caged layer hens, although commonly used in the egg industry, present several disadvantages from an ethical and welfare perspective. One of the primary concerns is the lack of space and confinement experienced by these birds. Cages restrict their movement, preventing them from engaging in natural behaviors like perching, dust bathing, and stretching their wings. The confined environment can lead to physical discomfort and psychological distress, ultimately compromising the hens' overall well-being.
Additionally, caged layer hens are prone to health issues, including bone weakness and feather loss, due to the restricted space and inability to exercise. These conditions can result in a lower quality of life for the hens and a higher risk of injury or disease.
Furthermore, the lack of environmental stimulation in cage systems can lead to boredom and frustration among the hens, which may manifest in harmful behaviors like feather pecking or cannibalism. These negative interactions can escalate and create a stressful and hostile environment for the birds.
From a consumer standpoint, caged eggs may raise concerns about food safety and quality. Overcrowding and unsanitary conditions in cage systems can increase the risk of disease transmission, potentially affecting the quality of the eggs produced.
Considering these disadvantages, many consumers, animal welfare organizations, and even governments have advocated for alternative housing systems that prioritize the well-being of layer hens, such as free-range, barn, or enriched colony systems. These alternatives offer hens more space and opportunities for natural behaviors, contributing to improved welfare and more ethical egg production practices.
Loooove you for this. I couldn´t agree more. I have borrowed your text and pasted in on other similar pages. I hope that you don´t mind. Again, Thank you for sharing your concern and knowledge. People can still make money without having to keep any animals in cages. Bless you❤

Instead of trying to give weeds to boost their immune system instead of filling them with antibiotics
WHY MONTHLY VACCINATION? IS THAT HEALTHY OR NORMAL?
The interval of vaccination depends on the level of risk the birds are exposed to and how strict on-farm biosecurity is.
Overall, what work for Mr. A may not work for Mr. B
@@diyagric Thanks baba for the reply.
I am scared to start layers oooo am only doing broilers, please i want to speak to her
Okay. Send an email
For one egg producing time is 26 hours... then how she get 100% production 🤔🤔🤔🤔
2750÷30 eggs in a crate = 91.6~92 crates (100%)
But she said her farm gives her 82 crates.
So, (82÷92)×100= 89~90%
So her farm gives her 90% not 100%.
I guess the 26hours eats 10%
Poor chickens
What a pity!
But it’s Life
But these what people eat and that's why cancer is so much and our babies growing faster than their age in africa
Giving antibiotics 3 days every month hmm, you are promoting antimicrobial resistance.
Exactly.
Yeah. I understand your point perfectly but what they are giving is a mild purifier/cleanser. Some people won’t even call it antibiotics.
Using strong antibiotics that often is not encouraged
I believe it's the farmer that decides which method to practice. DIY just went to interview. As for me, am completely pure organic Layer farmer and no regrets all

What are u saying?
This gen Z u people has problem with ur Brain
Why are you so hypocritical, these animals are for food man and business. They aren't pets. So stop freaking out
@@DammyFX lol, I only eat free range food cause I do not believe in animal confinement and trust me, the meat taste better. As the chicken walk around it creates good circulation of the blood and does the meat taste better
@@DammyFX No they are not pets and it shouldn't matter, they are still living animals
Again, so sad, disappointing and disgusting to see live animals couped up in tiny cages
