      Molly Delfuego Ah yes I agree! My mother sure didn't. When I was born in 2004. Then by the time I was 3, there wasn't really any videos about what to do with natural hair and what it, then decided to perm it. Now I'm currently trying to transition, I did the big chop and I get bullied for it but it's all fine because when I get my hair back they'll wish they were me! Haha

    My daughter is Mexican with black and my ignorance I ended putting a relaxer on her hair. I only did it twice when she was 2 but now she is 6 and her hair is getting better and healthy. So don't be upset with your mom some times we just don't have guidance. 😔😔 also I am here to learn how to keep her hair healthy so when she gets older she will have the healthiest hair and don't blame me.

    • @AminaMarie
      @AminaMarie  Před 7 lety +49

      +Miriam Aguilar I can't imagine what it was like for her to try to care for my hair before having CZcams and blogs for guidance so I know she was doing her best! That's awesome you're looking for resources, as long as you keep chemicals away and heat off her hair (as much as possible) she'll be in great shape! Keep the pictures of her transitioning hair to show her when she asks you for a flat iron because at some point we all want to play around with heat!

I just wanted to fit in cause everyone has straight hair. I am more confident now with embracing my culture and hair. that's why I want to go natural.

      I’m 13 about to turn 14 in a month, I’m in 8th grade. I have relaxed hair, I’ve been getting relaxers since I was 5. The only reason I wanted one was to look like my mom because she always had a relaxer. I’ve never experienced my natural hair and I hated it when I was a toddler but now I’m in love with curls and I want to go on a hair journey going natural because I want to experience my true hair.

    Usually when people go natural what persons usually do is mix olive and coconut oil together and braid it into your hair and leave it on for a full 24 hours. (It must be totally submersed in it) the next day, your curls would be on POINT.

    When I was from 1-6 my hair was this golden gorgeous color, wavy and curly.. but then my mom didn’t know how to care for it and it got damaged along the way.. so I started straightening from 12 years old to 16. Luckily I didn’t straighten everyday, only on Sundays the day before school so my hair wasn’t severely damaged. And now I’ve come to love curly hair and have had it natural for 1 year now. Best decision ever! I love and am in love with my curls :)

      Jay C. either your hair is getting used to your moisturizer, or whatever you're using to seal is not strong enough ! You should also check out and see what hair porosity you have and if that may have something to do with it

      @jayc.3546 Před 7 lety +6

      avionmember101 Thanks this helps put things in perspective but I really don't seal I'm not sure what I'm doing. I wash it then I braid it with hair and wrap lotion.

    • @avionmember101
      @avionmember101 Před 7 lety +21

      Jay C. I think you should definitely invest in a moisturizer and sealant! My reccomendation for a moisturizer is Cantu coconut curling cream or Shea moisture jamaican black castor oil styling lotion. You can get either of those at target or walgreens. For a sealant, you should try any bottle of oils that you can find at the same places. Hope this helps!

      +Caramel Mocha I love TWAs 🤗 Shrinkage is very real but if you ever want to mix it up and stretch it for a different kind of curl pattern, there are so many sizes of perm rods you can play with! Short hair has great versatility, you just have to play with it a bit 😊

    • @caramelmocha7423
      @caramelmocha7423 Před 7 lety +1

      Amina Marie Thank you so much for your comment. As I'm writing this, I'm listening to your video again. I went thru alot of what you experienced growing up perm failures/burnouts/thinning city. So I don't trust salons for those reasons. If I mess up, I can't get mad with anyone. Anyway you said that you have a blog post so I'm going to see if your TWA tips are there & learn. I'm also shocked that my hair would curl. I was told to do finger coils for a year to train my hair. I do coils during the week. I'm still trying to perfect wash n gos on the weekend, lol. I have perm rods but I think that they're too small. But I'll look at your perm rods video. I am just wondering as it grows if my curls/coils would loosen because they're tight and not like I thought they would. So thanks for being a listener. If you have any other tips please don't hesitate to let me know. Happy Holidays to you and your family

    This video honestly helped me so much. I've spent countless summers buying new products, brushes, rollers so I can start wearing my hair curly. I've never had a relaxer but I have color and heat damage. I now understand why my wash and go's and twist outs don't work. My hair isn't ready to just jump into being curly with water and a few products. It's kinky at the roots, each in the middle and straight at the ends. I have noticed that after not using heat every other week that some of my curls are nice ringlets. I am happy to now start out with maybe some flexirods and see where that takes me!!! This video was ultra helpful

    Hi. You add moisture during your wash routine. So, once you’ve washed your hair, it is essential to deep condition, preferably for at least half an hour. For me, this is the most important part and choose a good deep conditioner such as one from Sheamoisture. The next part is then also important for moisture. Add oil, then a leave in, then your gel. You can now leave your hair as a wash n go or plait it or twist it for a twist-out or a plait-out. I hope this helps. A lot of people try to add moisture in between washes. This doesn’t work unless you want to restyle your hair. Otherwise, put your hair in one or two low ponytails and put a band around each tail. Then simply sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase. I find this better for my hair than covering it completely with a silk scarf, my hair seems to be less dry.

    So I’m mixed. When I was really young my hair was very fine, but relatively straight. So I always treated my hair like it was straight. When I turned about 12 my hair started to get very frizzy and curly. It was very strange. How it just changed. I didn’t know how to manage it so I kept brushing it, and straightening in. And I’ve pretty much straightened my hair everyday of my life, and I would wash it almost everyday. I’ve just now really been evaluating my hair and realizing it just wants to be curly! My hair routine has completely changed and I’m going into a transition period now that I’m learning more about my hair. I’m so excited.

    Ohhh i love your curls! I'm transitioning too, but i went through the braids path since i have different lenghts, and i don't wanna big chop it bc it would be too short (i'm talking bout over-the-shoulder curls versus 2inch strands 😔) i wanna try and set free my curls, but that length dif kind of stops me

    • @AminaMarie
      @AminaMarie  Před 7 lety +2

      +Agus Joy Thats a good start! Sometimes braids can weigh down curls a bit and be tougher on your roots so when you want to take a break, try some flexi rod or perm rod sets so you can still have nice curls and get used to the look. Just keep trimming off the damage as you go and then you'll never have to do the BIG big chop 😊 Trust me I didn't want the super short hair either, my head wasn't made for it! 🙉

    It’s been a few years since I transitioned (2015-17) but you’re journey was similar to mine. I was growing my hair out from pixie length at fifteen and found the process between pixie and shoulder length different so I had relaxers. It grew to my waist by the time I entered my senior year of high school it started breaking. For about ten years it was damaged and I got it cut to shoulder length. It reached my hips three years later due to no heat or relaxers and then about six years later I was dumb enough to get a relaxer. I did that on and off for two years and then I stopped in the fall of 2015 and haven’t looked back.

    So I've watched this video twice now and I absolutely LOVE it. I have been going back and forth over the last few months whether or not I wanted to transition to the curly girl style. I have never had a relaxer but from years of coloring and straightening I have a pretty significant amount of heat damage. Which has had a lot to do with me not going forward with this. But after watching this and learning some more about my hair I think I am ready! So thank you for being the needed push and inspiration I needed!!

    Lovely Video Amina. I've been going natural for about 9 months now and have been debating about whether or not I should relax. I can see I have about 5 inches of new growth and love the way my curls are looking, but managing the two hair textures has been super difficult... I've been trying to stay dedicated though but at the same time I'm a low maintenance type of girl lol. Since I couldn't be bothered with how troublesome the two textures were becoming, I've just been using a low bun as my go-to style, while continuously debating whether I should relax. After watching your video and seeing the curl pattern completely grown out (your hair patterns looks exactly like my new growth) I am so motivated to continue my transition! Thank you so much for this video. I will definitely be a new subscriber :D

      Syniya Morris thank you!! And many of us have multiple hair textures on our heads so the best thing to do is just work with it instead of against it! Shaping it with a hair cut that can show off the length and textures working together is a great way to do that. I usually point people to @stylefeen on Instagram who has 2 fairly different hair textures and rocks it. Hope that helps!

    • @AminaMarie
      @AminaMarie  Před 7 lety +1

      +g0ldenbeth beauty awesome, that's a great resolution! For those straight pieces holding you back, trimming them away slowly is a great way to get you to your goal without making you uncomfortable with a shorter length. I started by trimming one inch to see how it looked, and when I felt I could go a little shorter, I cut it again until I finally felt comfortable getting rid of all of it. It's all about what makes you comfortable so don't be afraid to take your time or dive in 😊

    • @AminaMarie
      @AminaMarie  Před 7 lety +1

      It sounds like you just need to find the right products! When I don't use any products my hair dries with hardly any definition and just ends up poofy, but having a good curling cream and gel together makes a WORLD of a difference. If you're 3c similar to me, check out You Be-Natural Curl Shaping Custard (or another curling cream of your choice) and a strong hair gel and see if that helps!
