The difference is the public schools funding is provided by tax dollars so they don’t have a lot. Whereas google is a huge company, and this food the employees have to pay for, they don’t get it for free
The university I’m going to is actually very similar to this. There is a variety of food with vegan options and the food is very good. They also have a section that is comfort food that is like Mac and cheese and other comforting foods. It is amazing. It isn’t an expensive college either. It is a local college, not like an ivy or anything.

I have a friend who interned there for a year, and he absolutely loved it. He was living in an extremely expensive city and could literally only afford rent. This job kept him fed, taught cooking classes, offered nap rooms, all for free.

We got an ordered in thanksgiving dinner at my retail job and compared to the other places I have worked I felt spoiled. This makes that pale. Don't get me wrong, it's still awesome to have an employer support us, but I think about the people still working those jobs I used to.

A large part of the appeal for companies to offer these excellent meals is to encourage employees to be at the office for more of the day from what I've heard. Multiple meals served at work with excellent quality food and lots of options, why fuss around at home to make breakfast/lunch/dinner? Go in early, eat, stay late, eat. It's a win for the employer and employee imo.
Not a lot of companies make billions. Even fewer ones who has a high profit margin. Google is one of the few hand fulls. Dont expect this on every job. Its not realistic.

Reminds me of an internship at a bank I had in Sweden. It was one of those student internships for 16 year olds and it was so much fun. The best part was definately the food tho. I still dream about the bread. It was still warm from the oven, butter melted as soon as you put it on and there were little salt crystals on top of the bread that was just delicious. And the bank building was huge with like 3 catering teams and coffee/tea/sandwich/snacks stops at every turn. I want to go back so bad. Unfortunately, I moved to the UK. As soon as I finish my studies I'm applying to work there.

The “perks” like food, spa treatments, etc are there to keep the employees on-site and working longer hours. More hours means more productivity. Google, Apple and other tech companies are not offering them out of generosity of heart. These are employment retention strategies.

Not saying free food isn’t nice in general, but it’s really a way to keep workers productive since they don’t go out of the office for food during the day. Like dinner isn’t until 6:30 so you gotta stay there and work till then if you want the free dinner.
Worth it! Sit in an office chair all day in a/c, nap rooms, free food. I'd do that for minimum wage instead of making $26 standing and dealing with pissed off people

Well honestly it depends where you go. I've been born and raised in England and there are certain cities which have more options then others but you'll always find atleast one place even if it's a predominantly white city. Sheffield, Bradford, Birmingham are pretty good for it and have high amounts of Muslims esp Birmingham, probably other cities tho I haven't explored them all that much. I always get veggie options in London cause in the 5-6 times I've been I've never seen halal options but ik from others there are some. I have a lot of family in America, California and they say there's some good options there and that as Muslims they don't feel uncomfortable there, can't speak on the other states tho.
Just don't look what's in the food before you eat it! Remember the golden rule: It's not haram if you didn't know it was bacon! Just make sure not to find out...
I went to a job tour at the Google company building in nyc a few years ago and I still think about it to this day. They have sleep pods, room for nursing mothers, a whole Lego room/floor, a gym, ride scooters down the hall, and food as well and now seeing this they have upped even more wow I still want to work at Google. I even got a free mug on the tour
