It's a Crowther Audio Hot Cake, but a very very old one. The newer ones are a bit different with extra knobs, so I don't know how the sound is affected.
Hot Cake! 🍰 It's a Crowther Hot Cake overdrive pedal, and it's been reverse engineered so the schematics are publicly available. It's like a MXR Micro Amp, but it pushes the op-amp into distortion instead of being just a clean boost, and has an output filter that reminds me of how Runoffgroove's early JFET amp emulators tried to replicate speaker cabs, with a sequence of low-pass filters.
Wow. It sounds like every distortion pedal wants to sound like. I used to get that same beautiful crunch from a Peavy Ultra 60 amp but have had to downsize from the half stack. Hot Cake here I come!! Thanks for the demo, I'm sold!
@@intricateinc8566 He's amazed of the sound not because he just discovered a new tech... Do you really think PRS, an institution in the guitar industry wouldn't know of an overdrive pedal?
I had one in the 90s, regret selling it and stacks more of my stuff. Credit card overload did this. Pedal is extremely true to your guitars tone. The drummer from split ends, Paul Crowther, I believe made these.

And the 20k amp he's playing through
I love how even after making guitars/amps for decades, when Paul finds something he likes he looks like a kid in a candy shop
There's a possibility he's always been a kid in a candy shop.
So Cool!!

“But first, my clean tone, that of which you shall never attain for yourself “
He probably playing through a 3000 dollar amp with a 2500 dollar guitar it better sound good

Laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes. Paul's laughter is infectious.
Glad I have one of his guitars.
As a Kiwi and a drummer, I'm super proud it was created by a Kiwi drummer, and it's so good and widely used.
Ol Paul still churning them out himself!! Supremely underrated pedal. It’s the goods

Boy, Paul is getting tickled out of that.🎶🎶🎶😊😊🤷♂️😃🤣
This man’s enthusiasm alone Carries this video!! I need some log cabin.
Created in New Zealand for Neil Finn to drive his AC 30s
Crowther made some great pedals, but the hot cake is brilliant!!
Made for Neil Finn? Never would have guessed that. I haven't heard a drive pedal that stood apart from the crowd in a decade.. damn.
Maybe when he played in Split Enz?
They've been round a long time.

Saw this thing on the video posted last week. Sounds incredible! I need it.
I wish we all had this man’s passion for something. Anything.

Love that gnarly mid range boost. It opens the amp up and gives an excellent boost and amp crackle without over distorting it. Awesome.
Great, now this pedal is going to be even more expensive lol.
