The fact he was so not intimidated, when facing one of his heroes no doubt, that he *opens* his *surprisingly premature* , *title* fight with a *flying knee* at *23* says more about his self-belief and mentality than almost anything else. Joe keeps repeating it because it's incredible, but easily overlooked. People often don't put themselves in the mind of the person when they watch UFC, or think about context. They just watch the moves.

I believe he is specifically referring to going for a single-leg, then releasing it to do a spinning elbow when they have no guard because they are defending an active takedown.
