Dont shelter under bridges and underpasses during a tornado or derecho, or severe thunderstorm with powerful winds, they funnel the wind and make it worse. A ditch is better, make yourself as low and flat as possible.
@EmoCream a widespread, long-lived band of rapidly moving thunderstorms
True
I'm obsessed with weather
@@kennethvreeland1651 same
@@kennethvreeland1651 same too
Non stop lightning. This is amazing footage 👏 Thanx for uploading!!
I like how US Bank Stadium lights up like that
Me too! ❤
Ahhhh!! Great capture of a 4/5 chopper Thunderbolt!! 😍😍😍
✨✨YES✨✨
Yes!! so happy someone caught it on film. ♡
There's no Film. lol.
@@chass5438 figure of speach lol
Wow many lightning up in the sky and the warning tornado siren at 5:30 is scary is loud and good video
That sound of the tornado sirens...just scary. I live on the West Coast, so something like this is rare to hear here. That weather is nuts! Glad it wasn't any worse than it already looked!
It kinda was lmao, we just got lucky.
I live in Florida so this is just a normal day for me
@@Sub-Zero. Can confirm, fellow Florida man here
blaine got it very bad
looked like a tropical storm
Wow even in before tornado touched down, U.S. Bank stadium looks beautiful
thunbderbolt and whelen what an eerie combo 😱😮
Yes, stop under the overpass that's prone to flash flooding.
best footage i seen
5:34 “damn”
No need to thank me
Goodness lots of lightning
just remember folks… the cameraman never dies!
can you turn the wind down a bit? that'd be great :D
Foloowed by cold air behind the storm front. It's crazy to get this typre of weather in Minnesota in January!
It's 2022 and people still shelter under an overpass during a severe thunderstorm / tornado. The only thing they'd protect you from is non wind-driven hail, and even then a thunderstorm producing hail likely has other hazards. Parking underneath these increases your risk substantially, they're like a wind tunnel. Not only for the wind itself, but what's flying around in it...
sirens are so important, always an extra layer of protection
In Minneapolis they are tested every month. We're used to where we live trying to kill us.
True not everyone is looking up @ the sky all the time after all
That view is so good!!
Thanks for sharing Awesome
Being the fact that I live right by the VA Medical center, why don't I remember this storm ever happening???? 😳
Because it's just Minnesota. This happens every year.
Yep... I was circling this storm for 2 hours in a plane.. Interesting but very scary to see it right next to you
I remember this day. The Twins were playing a ballgame, and they didn't postpone the game until the inning was over.
This is great footage!!! Absolutely beautiful! That building with the blue top is stunning in the storm. I just wish it was longer
The building with the blue top is US Bank Stadium, home of the Minnesota Vikings
@@justinroark88 thank you for the clarification.
Wow Good video i love the thunderbolt
It's owned by the U of M
Great footage of water coming off the US Bank Stadium roof. I did not realize MPLS was still using any Thunderbolts.
They have one left on a parking garage across from Rarig Center at the University of Minnesota
@@SETX_Sirens_and_Rail_02 Good to know thanks. I know Bloomington has at least one Tbolt still active as well.
@Beazilla Not always, A lot of areas have Whelen sirens and 2001-130s. There are ASC-128s around as well.
Yes they do. It is behind Lunds & Byerlys in off of Normandale Blvd. Don't know it's settings as have not heard it go off.
NSP(Ramsey county) has a WHELEN(now a backup and noon siren) and a FS 508
I actually saw the hook in Minneapolis on the weather app. We had a tornado in our county that day.
The city looks like los Angeles
This looks like it was shot by riverside but across the street.
I'm living in downtown minneapolis, I took a video of this from my apartment window while it was going on, it was bonkers!
Same i live next to Minneapolis
The world is in really bad condition right now
Why
That's Minneapolis?!? Looks like something straight out of Blade Runner... amazing, thank you for sharing :)
Yeah, doesn't look like I remember it, but it's been 25 years, too !
Yes that’s Minneapolis
St. Paul never got this. 🤔 OUTSTANDING FOOTAGE!!! 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 Thanks for sharing!!! ❣❣❣❣❣❣❣❣
@Beazilla You're right about that. I got this storm confused with another we were supposed to get and didn't. The night of this particular storm I had a class and made the wise decision not to go. If I had gone, I would have been waiting for the bus home at an unprotected stop getting pelted by hailstones. 😖
Am I hearing a thunderbolt siren or allerator?
Thunderbolt
Praying no tornadoes touched down!
There was some,I think they were like 0 or 1
Strange, there’s no thunder
Omfg I remember being terrified that day and I ran away from home for 2-3 hours
I Recall that there was another Storm the Next day, on May 12, 2022 and I don’t Remember if that Storm hit Minneapolis as well
Excellent video. I just went through a tornado 3 weeks ago here in Indiana. Looks all too familiar. Terrifying event. Just ask my cat. He was plastered against me as the distant rumble and roar approached.
Must have gotten about 10 inches of rain. I'll have to check the Climate Summary for that day.
Not even... more like 2.
5:33 is where it gets really bad
Love it
I am watching this video at night in my bed.
First thunderstorm of the year? What's this city called my comming comming from Canada It was beautiful where I lived I was a little hot. How's the weather now? Still thundering?
Minneapolis Minnesota
I remember that night I was at work and we had to close one hour early
Big oof for the person running across the bridge at 10:25
Or as we would say here in MN "Uff-Da"
They sound sirens here for damaging straight line winds.
No 💀
5:33 second mark. The sirens starting up in unison
Nice!
Was this filmed from a hotel or your home?
Looks like a parking garage
I live here and it was scary and my daughter was scared
Geez. I don't remember this storm!
This is beautiful. 0:40
I remember that I lived in mm for a while this I will never forget
this is literally crazy bc i was one of those cars LOL. this shit was insane i was so scared going through this
Same thing happened where I live on a Friday, prior to a 4th of july 2022 weekend.
Is that U.S. Bank stadium?
Yep
American Indians told you this day was coming. Do you still don't believe in global warming?
It’s tornado alley
You do realize the area they recorded has a lot more storms and bad weather than majority of the rest of the world. And explain to me how tornados are made from global warming.
There have been two tornado warnings for the twin cities since 2016, which is the year I came here, is this the first, or second one?
You can tell things got worse when visibility got worse and the siren starts sounding at 5:33
ayo May 11 was my birthday
YUP 😁 FATHER GODS JUDGEMENT OF HIS WRATH IS GOING ON ALL AROUND YOU I TOLD U SO SO AWESOME ISNT THIS BEAUTIFUL ???
I can hardly hear the sirens but i thought i heard a thunderbolt
Me who was eating ice cream when the tornado hit my city: 🗿🗿🗿🗿
Will never forgot how ice cream hits differently while in a tornado
Does anyone notice the blue thing in the sky
Pretty sure that's the stadium
5:30 $irens!!;
Time and time
There is no more time
END of time.
Goodbye.
Whatever. This wasn't even a big one.
I'm in
I was 7 when the storm hit and im like thats 60-70mph btw im obsessed with weather
Also I live in blaine
I live in the Twin Cities and followed this storm extensively.. There was never a Tornado Warning for Downtown Minneapolis.. For northern Hennepin County...yes but the harshest of the cells passed north of St Louis Park and Maple Grove into Brooklyn Center.. Not once even threatened Minneapolis.. This video title is deceiving.
Ok
This looks hindi
Shite!!!!! .
