Fun fact, this is Industrial Light and Magic's second time animating an animated film since 2011's Rango. May do I feel so old, in all seriousness the visuals were truly grand and epic!!!
Not quite true. The last film they animated for was 2015's Strange Magic, which received negative reviews from both critics and cartoon CZcamsrs. It did gain a cult following but it is their weakest film of the three they've done

Yeah, right. The 4 episode series has shown parent loss, grief, betrayal, violence, death, killing, and ripping body parts apart. The show is like the 10 times darker version of Toy Story. Seriously, this show traumatized me

Also, yeah, this was a film that was well worth the 23 year wait. Tindle is a director who really knows how to making something special.

I really liked this movie. I feel like the only thing you failed to mention about Ultraman Rising is the humor. I did laugh a fair bit but it has the problem that Thelma the unicorn had where a fair amount of it is toilet humor. I don’t think it has it as bad as Thelma did. Besides that I agree with everything you said. This film is a 7/10 for me currently. I think it is a good movie it just didn’t end up as good as I thought. Maybe a couple rewatches will make me love it.
Best Ultraman movie to date
as an Ultraman fan i was a bit skeptical at first but it is nice to see the movie was actually good even though it stray away from the usual Ultraman story with him being an alien that fight kaiju to protect earth through having a human host or disguise
in this movie we follow an Ultraman that was raised as a human instead which is rare, if you or anyone want to see more of what a traditional Ultraman look like without watching a full tv series i do recommend Shin Ultraman it is a remake of the 1966 Ultraman, some part are pretty cheesy but it is part of it charm from remaking old media
My first Ultraman movie experience and was a good time with amazing visuals by the legendary Visual effects house ILM they never disappoint and the heart hits hard I'm glad the director got to tell his story.
This is the best Netflix movie since Nimona.

Gotta ask, after watching this film; were you at all interested to check out the rest of the Ultraman/Ultra series?
Personally, I found Ultraman rising just a good experience but could've used one more re write. I feel that the stereotypical family troupes and unwelcoming first act might've tamper my experience, but to my surprise it's gets better by acts 2 and 3. Love the animation, action scenes, score by Scott Stafford, and finale that put me at the edge of my seat. While not the best like Nimona, it still beats the monkey king's butt in terms of being a good Netflix film.
