I saw ‘early Cure’ in back room of a pub in about 1979. I had a big exam next day but we all knew about The Cure, totally unconventional 3 piece with a virtuoso guitarist. They played a very short set then as an encore played the whole set again in double time! I went home convinced I’d been in the presence of greatness, and needless to say I fucked up my exam the next morning!
Think 79 was also when I saw them.. supporting the Banshees on tour...wish I'd seen them in backroom of a pub..people who rave about stadium gigs really miss out on the personal ones...I loved them as a three piece and Three Imaginary Boys is still an album I love .
really saying something as the album version rocks soooo hard. although i think i prefer the album version even though this one is fabulous. but that version was what i heard first and have known and loved for years ;)
John Peel was a radio DJ from England, he was known for his sessions, Joy Division, The Cure, etc bands that he though were good and he invited them in his radio show known has Peel Sessions
