The whole village is now move and they got a brand new house for free. A new school has been build and even a small hospital. The people all could get free training to learn a new skills which provides them income. Nobody was forced to move but almost all moved because the quality of living is so much better now. I am a German, now have been living in china for 10 years, and visiting china for another 10 before that. And I can say that I have never seen a country advance so fast. I personally think creating a strong middle class for instance in a period of 10 to 15 years would not have been possible in any western country. yes, there are still poor areas, but as indicated by this video, they are working even on those.

I wish this report could be less superficial. The solution to this particular village was not the steel ladder, of course. That was the interim measure. Million miles of highways and bridges have been built all over China to help remote villages more accessible. And the digital highway, of course. Now over 95% of all remote areas in China have fast broadband, and villagers can sell their produce nationwide. Not all poor areas are given the same formula by the way. Tens of thousands of "poverty alleviation cadres" have been sent to individual townships and villages and stationed their for years to devise plans that suit the local conditions (geographical, climate.. , you name it). China's poverty alleviation project was a huge one, which lasted for decades, not three years, culminating in the successful completion of the project in 2021

As a Chinese , I want say something for gov.
1.China gov ever adviced them to leave there, but they rejected. 2. In this place , some people are lazy. They prefer living with a little "poor proctecting money" instead of working. 3.Nowadays, the village has changed a lot. Gov build a ropeway to carry goods, build safer stairs, help them sell farm goods to outside world, build school etc.. In this village ,you can get 4G and WIFI signal , use electric and watch TV. In the future, Here may become a tourist spots. In short, the village is becoming better.

No, it may not be. But, as the BBC pointed out, the CCP's push to improve the living standards of the most poor is not as simple as that. The push involves a strengthening of the party's ideology and legitimacy amongst the people. This is perhaps even clearer when one takes a look at government initiatives in Xinjiang and Tibet.

i went to leshan or le mountain and at the very top of the mountain there were these groups of people hiking miles uphill just to get certain supplies to the hotel up there. the baskets on their backs were big and heavy, and they often carried more than a basket each. they also carried rubbles away from construction sites. they are called 挑山工, meaning ''the workers who lift mountains''. many of them were in their forties and fifties, maybe even older. this video reminds me of those mountain lifters. every improvement china has made was based on the sweat and blood and the lives of these people. it saddens me that such sacrifices must be made, but it also gives me hope, knowing that their sons and daughters would have a better life.

Since this video, in approx.3 years, their government had spent 20 billions ¥Yen to build 199 bridges crossing the river & connecting to major roads/highways.
New housing have also been built with great community resources for these villages. Now they can come down the mountains without risking their lives. And whoever wants to move out of the mountains, housing is available to them. Most people were happily to be resettled.
They are farmers, farmlands are available to them & new farming methods have been taught. Thus their incomes have increased by more than 100 times & lives have been absolutely improved. Other than living, children have opportunity to go to proper schools, elderly people receive total medical & cares.
Any government holds their people's well-being to the core gets my respect. I forget the figures, millions people have been resettled in such a short time!
Such a benevolent government, what determination they have !

I lived in China for two years. Geography is truely merciless and together with extreme climate, it's the main reason for poverty and isolation. And even with less unfavorable circumstances, no other country has been capable of acomplishing what China is doing for the last few years. Besides, all of those who launch propaganda critizicing Chinese government are conducting attempts of destabilization against it, no other country is prey of this much foreign interference. And that's because they'd love to take over it. Plain and simple: in this discussion all the ideological issues like “communism, human rights, whatever” are faked behind the fact that China is world's most coveted land. And in the eves of oil scarcity, China is finding their way to depending less on it and moving onto sustainable forms of energy and transport while the US just prolonging the agony, desperately seeking for more of it and invading other countries, but as prices get on the rise they will fall by their own feet.

I think I have more right to say something about Falun Dafa, which is not only a meditation practice but a cult organization instead, and my grandma died because of it. When I was young, she was trying to drag me into the cult, so I got the chance to read the book written by Hongzhi Lee. Their doctrine educate people to stay away from doctor and medication, and their family who cares about them, my grandma died because she refuses to take any medication, no one could help her. I was heartbreaking during that time because she's so into it, and suffering the pain from illness but still saying the Hongzhi lord will save her eventually and being indifferent to our family member. Every time I recalled this, my eyes well up. She could have lived another 10 years but because of the wrong religious belief. She is not the only victim, our community lost several as I know, if you think the whole country, how many families broken for that. If you measure grandness in terms of perpetuity then perhaps no civilization will meet those expectations, but if you think China has never achieved grandness then you sir are ignorant of the history of said country. China's GPD accounted for half of the entire globe's during the 11th and 12th century without doubt. During the Song dynasty social welfare and quality of life exceeded anything the Romans have ever experienced, for all people living under the dynasty, even women. For a millennium Xi'an was the center of trade in Asia, bringing merchants and immigrants from as far as Western Europe, leaving Xi'an today a city scattered with Temples, Mosques and Churches. However, no empire lives forever, and just as China has seen astronomical highs in it's history, so has it lows. The Spring and Autumn warring period was a century of bloodshed and human barbarism, the Three Kingdoms period saw yet another few centuries of unrest and political uncertainty. The Hunnic invasion up to the boxer rebellions are all just part of the roller coaster ride that is Chinese history. To answer your question, subjectively I think China has been the epitome of grandeur in the world many times over, and objectively the world would not be what is it today without the knowledge, and ingenuity of historical Chinese science and societal progress.
The last century has been a historic low for this nation, it's been fraught with corruption, sacrilege, political ineptitude and economic deterioration. But if you look at the last thirty years, the government and the people have pulled themselves, all 1.3 billion of them, out of gutter and into the limelight. Call it propaganda, but it works, the zeal and vigor the younger generations have in China is breathtaking. To them, China is no underdog, it shouldn't have to vie for a seat in the big leagues, it has a historical destiny to lead the world, and as scary as it seems, the Chinese have no intent whatsoever of being anything short of the best.

I lived in city in Africa and the worse situation I came across was not as extreme as this. This is extremely dangerous because if you miss step or slip, you're rolling down the hills or handing down the trail while holding on for your dare life. Ps: The problem with developing/undeveloped countries are THE LEADERS. The are generally corrupt, the embezzle funds meant for developing rural areas and assisting the poor.

DatGidiGirl um just saying I’ve been to almost 10 cities in China, and the most I’ve seen is people living in villages with WiFi and can afford all basic needs, and homeless people. Most places are very modern and people generally live in apartments.

janerym I believe you because from my personal experience, what I've seen and learnt in Africa is far from what International media broadcast to unexposed and ignorant billions of people in developed countries. Ps: And those things that are true are in many cases exaggerated.

Almost every country has some poor people & some extremely poor people but Chinese government did so much for their country & people. Their goal is to have their people to have a better life, better future & their country will be super power one day.

Not commenting on the subject content now, but wanted to say, it's an excellent production here. Nicely structured for the 3'27" of the feature. Some very imaginative shots, going up the ladder and especially use of the drone at the end. I did pity the poor cameraman! Very nicely done.
