- Hey everyone, and welcome back to our channel! In today's reaction, we're exploring Nightwish's "Shoemaker," a track that absolutely showcases the band's masterful blend of symphonic metal and storytelling. This song isn't just music; it's a cosmic journey celebrating the awe-inspiring work of astronomer Eugene Shoemaker.
Nightwish has a way of turning each song into an epic saga, and "Shoemaker" is no exception. The composition is intricate, with layers of orchestral sound paired perfectly with powerful metal riffs. The lead vocals soar spectacularly above the mix, carrying both the beauty and the intensity that Nightwish is famous for.
As we delve into this track, you'll notice how the lyrics and music together craft a narrative that's as vast as space itself. This isn't just a listening experience; it's an emotional voyage that Nightwish embarks us on, honoring a man who has impacted the way we see our universe.

This is what you get when you combine world class musicians with a genius composer and a Goddess singing.
When Floor sings this live, you feel the ending through your whole body.
🤗🍒🤘🏻😘 Great Job again
Thank you for your reaction to this song, girl! I use to cry during watching this song video sometimes...
Hello Charlene. Subscriber from England here. The spoken Shakespearean text is read by Johanna Kurkela, Tuomas' wife. The main male vocal is Troy with Marko singing a tenor line in the background. Thank you for reacting to more contemporary material. Kindest, Kevin
My Queen Goddess Floorever!
The live version is a must see. I recommend Hellfest 2022
Deichbrand Festival 2022 just found it ,,👍
The concert in Germany at night is also very good,,Greetings from UK,,😎
Excellent reaction...I concur with Kevin on everything. The only thing I'll add is the live performance of this from Hellfest or Pink Pop are awesome!
Don't forget Deichbrand 😃
They are just an amazing group
If you want to hear it live I prefer Hellfest or Deichbrand 2022
Concur.
Agreed. Deichbrand for me, but only by a whisker. Both are awesome, with the audio quality at Deichbrand just that little bit better IMO. Also the live in a virtual world version they did during the pandemic, at the Islander's Arms is great too - no actual audience but still a remarkable performance.
🤩👍💥💯🎼
🤘😎💙🎶
🥰👋🇫🇮
Thanks
It looks like you still did not quite get it, even after reading the last comment. So for all clarity: On a research expedition in Australia in 1997, while searching for still more undiscovered impact craters, Shoemaker got into a fatal car crash. On July 31, 1999, Shoemaker’s ashes were carried to the Moon by the Lunar Prospector space probe in honor of his tremendous contributions to planetary science. So he became the only human being ever to be buried on the moon. The song is a reference to that fact.
I did understand that. I just didn’t know how he died or got into space.
@@RetroToMetroReactionsalso the Shakespeare quote in the song was inscribed on his capsule of ashes sent to the moon, and I believe it relates also to the partnership he had with his wife in his research.
@@ecbftl Yes. She chose that quote to be inscribed on his capsule.
If you check the lyrics it is like a conversation, with the harmonised chorus being spoken by Shoemaker himself. Incidentally Laudato Si Ad Astra = Praise be to the strars. Personally I consider this a plea for the world to get back into space before we destroy the world.
Thank you! I was going to ask about Laudato Si. I knew Ad Astra.

ok for members they wish them....are you on concerts live?
Are you asking me if I react to live concerts? I have seen songs from concerts, but I have not reacted to a full concert yet.
live is olways beter
sorry not watching, since nightwish is so much better live. subscribed but do better and watch then live, from colorado
Not watched, the you have missed out on a very good video that fits the storyline, and a nice reaction.
Yes, I appreciate Nightwish live as well, but to bitch like this is uncalled for.
I don't understand how someone can love the band's music and yet refuse to listen to the songs as they were produced to be. Both forms are great. Live you get something extra but also some of the intricacy can be lost.
This is one of those Nightwish songs, where the video adds so much to the understanding of the song. I have seen Floor sing this live in a small venue, and it is amazing to hear it that way also.
Usually, but I love this version - possibly more than the live version.
I don't understand how you can love a band half, on stage but not in the studio. It is the studio music that is the original music, not the other way around.
