I went there in July this year and it's definitely worth the trip! I didn't remember a page on the seat61 website about the harz schmalspurbahn, but I see there's one now! Keep up the great work! You (your website) helped me for train travel in China, Vietnam and with my interrail around Europe! I love your website!

    Mark,
great to see that you are producing videos again. I was all set for a big trip via Milan, Tirano, Chur, Koblenz and London in May 2020, all booked with guidance from your very useful website, when covid struck. Still no idea when I will be allowed out of Australia, in the meantime, please keep the videos coming, they give us all something to look forward to.

It brought back some fantastic memories of the Brocken in the ice, snow and a raging gale. It was a very hostile environment but magnificent.

Those were some lovely views! Also neat to see the center buffers and zig-zag sleepers.

a few more train services you should check out:
    1) the "Molli" Mecklenburgische Bäderbahn narrow gauge steam powered railway at the Baltic Sea coastline, where the steam train partially runs through a street in the county town just like a tram does
    2) ALEX international express train from Munich Central to Prague Central
    3) Nordland Line from Trondheim to Bodø in Norway

  • @ronfisher2-railwaytravelvideos

I went there in 2003, so it's high time I went there again - especially as the video that I took was in the days of VHS so I need to get some decent footage!

Most HSB steamlocomotives are not as old as you would think. Most of them are built in the fifties.

So - how do we get TO Nordhausen?

    • @abalada
      @abalada Před 2 lety +1

      E.g. by train.
      DB timetable
      reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
      To: Nordhausen
DB timetable knows also about the HSB trains, thus you can also query
      To: Brocken

Get off the ICE train at Göttingen (direct from Hamburg, Munich, Zurich, Vienna...), change for trains via Northeim to Nordhausen.
