    1972 #106 1000cc ironhead sportster bike rebuild repair street tracker harley by tatro machine
    here we go again. the customer just wants a bike he can ride more than 15 minuets without it breaking and he thinks he wants a street tracker. he just purchased the bike and has been working on it trying to make it reliable but has given up because of all the problems.
    now it is time to see what is wrong and fix it correctly. for fun we might make it to what the customer really wants.
    time to start stripping down the bike until i don't find anymore things to fix. lets see how far i have to go before i start putting it back together again.

    That Scoring on the inside of the brake drum is some serious shit ( aside from everything else) had a stroked 62 Xlch, Rigid frame Chopper,... the end cap of one of the rear brake shoes broke off and never made a sound, silently scoring a line like a lathe inside the drum. I was blasting down the Southern State at night and went to pass some body and the rear drum and brake plate exploded. luckily the chain didn't lock up the rear wheel. the sprocket Brake plate and drum totally disintegrated. I saved the wheel it has an 8 inch iron disc. It was a loooong push! LOL.

    • @jkulavis
      @jkulavis Před 6 lety

      Now that I think about it, I do recall him mentioning it in other videos, but I can't remember how he addressed the hardening issue.

    • @TatroMachine
      @TatroMachine  Před 6 lety

      the rockerarm tips are not that hard and about the same all the way thru. if you grind too much the rocker geometry goes all the hell.
      tatro

    • @jkulavis
      @jkulavis Před 6 lety

      Interesting - I thought rocker arms only had a very thin surface hardening and thus grinding would wear through that.

    Looks like valve and valve stem sealing problems with all that oil. You would not have oil dripping off the valves like it did if it was rings..

    • @TatroMachine
      @TatroMachine  Před rokem

      my race bikes have no valve seals and no oil dripping off the valves. harley did not have seals until 1982 and the motors still ran just fine. when the rings go out, the oil goes out the intake and exhaust valves until it runs out of oil. the harder you go the more oil they push out of the motor. you can change valve seals all day long but until you do the rings you are going to be wet.

    • @mistersniffer6838
      @mistersniffer6838 Před rokem

      @@TatroMachine - Maybe you had the engine upside down for a while??? When you pulled that head off, LOADS of oil came dripping off the edge of the valve to the middle of the valve. No way thats from the rings! Im sure the rings are bad and leak, but it doesnt make sense gravitationaly (made that word up), if the motor has been upright for any amount of time. Gonna have to look at that part of the video again.
