Are these OPI polishes secretly magnetic?! Let's test them!

- A bunch of you have asked me if the rumors are true about OPI nail polishes from their Holiday 2022 nail polish collection being secretly magnetic, so I decided to test them out!
This is OPI Sleigh Bells Bling and OPI Decked to the Pines, and yes, both are magnetic!
I don't know how this happened, but it seems to be an accident, since OPI never marketed them as magnetic polishes. My best guess is that they used a pigment in both that they didn't realize was magnetic :P But it's a cool secret to discover for those of us that have these colors! Do you own them??
OPI Sleigh Bells Bling - (code KELLI for 10% off*) bit.ly/3Xi5LJV *
OPI Decked to the Pines - (code KELLI for 10% off*) bit.ly/3Xk542Z *
PS - You'll need a nail magnet in order to magnetize these :)
That's so bizarre, I wonder if they didn't know exactly what kinds of pigments they were using lol. Definitely check some older ones!
I wonder if they bought magnetic pigments for a future collection and used them by accident... 🤔 Or maybe that's wishful thinking LOL
@Kelli Marissa oh maybe....that'd be kinda funny hahaha
@@lyssascott8908 They have made magnetics before, but that's some years ago 😊 So maybe they've forgotten ☺
@@AnetteL.Nielsen I remember a magnetic collection coming out way before is now current popularity. I’m hoping Kelli is right!
Some pigments are inherently magnetic so they probably used those not realizing how strong the magnetic affect was. A lot of metallic nail polishes react to magnets
I suspect OPI does not want the trouble of explaining magnetics to the mainstream audience 😂 when I saw this on Instagram, several comments said things such as "why would I want magnets on my nails? are they using heavy metals?"
That's a good point 🤔
I find that kind of strange, as magnetic nail polish was fairly mainstream in the 2010s. Did those people miss the memo? 😁
Okay, cute polish has a video from 2011, which is round about when I remember. The 2010s were crazy for different nail polish effects, how I miss those days!
@@sapphireseptember OPI actually did magnetics in 2012 for their James Bond collab 😊
But yes you're right about people not knowing about what once was mainstream 😀
@@sapphireseptember I mean there’s lots of young people that probably missed that being popular
Why is magnetic good?
Its worth trying with any polish with a metallic kind of finish because all it takes is for the pigment to have a magnetic metal as its base. So like barium or strontium ferrite, magnetic iron oxide (which can be coated with various other things to get different colours). If you find one which sort of responds to a magnet, then its possible that you could place the bottle on top of a very strong magnet and leave it there a while to help magnetise it further. Like how if you touch a safety pin to the blades of a regular pair of scissors, nothing much will happen, but if you put a magnet on the scissors for a while, then remove it, the scissors will pick up the pin! (Same happens if you magnetise the pin). If something is only mildly magnetic then it can lose this over time though.
This is very interesting I must experiment now 🤔
I think the last to discover this was OPI 😂
I think so too 🤣
I love that the streaks go away after applying the magnet over the nails.
Now we need a video of you checking other polishes and maybe doing a deep dive on magnetic pigment!
Definitely will mess around with my other metallics to see!!
@KelliMarissa I just stumbled on ORLY's Faux Fir being magnetic! I also vote for a sequel video!!
I have a feeling they didn’t advertise them as being magnetic because the Gelcolor version of these two polishes are NOT magnetic, but the regular polish and Infinite Shine are both magnetic.
They probably didn't want to explain why the finish wasn't available across all three lines - especially since they released Gelcolor magnetic polishes in autumn/winter 2021 so it is possible in their gel polish line.
So is ORLY's in the spirit collection... The black polish in that collection was not marketed as magnetic but it is as well.
Thank goodness they're such unique magnetic hues, as well! So many magnetic collections are out nowadays, but no others are quite this level of ultra-fine, "metallic-ly pearlized" for either this kind of gold or this type of green. Most magnetic pigments are much larger particles. 🙌
They really are great, especially if unintentional haha!!
This makes the polish so much more unique. It makes you wonder why they didn’t highlight it…? But thank you because my collection just gained a couple bottles today 🥳
I'm wondering if they even knew they were magnetic tbh 🤣🤣
@@KelliMarissaprobably thought hey this is a metallic pigment we’ll just add it in. Not realising it was magnetic pigment.
I discovered that December to Remember from China Glaze is magnetic!!!🎉
I have 2 magnetic opi polishes. They sold them as duo with a magnet. Morning, Moneypenny & Is That Silva? from Skyfall 2012 collection. I believe they had another duo in that collection.
I own Is That Silva, but I didn't know about Morning Moneypenny 😊 I also own one named Bond... James Bond (it's a dark gold). I'm so excited not being the only one knowing about them 😀
Literally bought Decked to the Pines to test this out and was super happy to find that it is indeed magnetic. 😂 so funny to me trying to come up with how OPI secretly/accidentally included magnetic pigment
It's so crazy isn't it?! I'm guessing they didn't realize the pigments they bought were magnetic, OR they did order magnetic pigment for a future collection and it accidentally ended up in these two polishes as well!!
@@KelliMarissa i think it’s funnier if it was an accident so that’s what I’m going with 😅 Or perhaps miscommunication between the lab and the higher ups 🙈
@@KelliMarissa They have made magnetics in 2012 for the James Bond collection 😊
But maybe there was a miscommunication from the factory.... or it really is a secret for us magnetic lovers😁
Haha I bet OPI didnt know either 😂😂
OPI did have a magnetic collection a long time ago. That's so cool that they just randomly included 2 in that collection. I remember back in the late 90s buying magnetic polish made by Revlon, lol. Came with the magnet (Canada).
Ran a magnet past every polish in my rack 😆 Orly Faux Fir seems to be subtly magnetic, only the silver I didn't know was in there pulls forward. Another fun discovery, Orly Wild willow glows under a blacklight lol
Mine finally arrived. If this was an accident- it was an extremely happy one. I fully hope there are more of these coming. The effect is subtle, thick, juicy, glowy, heavenly. It’s near the look of a polished, smooth gemstone with glow and flash inside. ❤
This feels like secret easter eggs in video games but IRL
Edit: This would've been an AWESOME thing to add in to the latest "me myself and OPI" or XBOX collections, just to stay on the theme of "easter eggs" and video games, but alas, that may be too niche of a reference...
I heard about decked to the pines but not the gold one!
I bought the opi mini holiday advent calendar which included basically all of the polishes from the 2022 holiday collection including decked and sleigh bells. Super excited to try them out for myself!
OPI have made magnetics before cause I own two 😊 They are from their SkyfallJames Bond collection from 2012, named "Is That Silva?" (it's a silver) and "Bond... James Bond" (it's a gold but more dark then this new one).
I don't know if they have made others 😊
I would totally get the green one but I still think it's strange they didn't announce it 🤔 😀
Haha. I should have known I'm not the only person that has these polishes 😂
That collection also had a deep red. I own all 3 but can't remember the name of the polish right now.
I love that "Decked To The Pines" color! That's a gorgeous green! 🤩
Dang now I wish I got that gold one because it is STUNNING magnetized!
It's still available to buy!!
@@KelliMarissa awesome !!
I did swatches and several nail art looks with both of these shades and had no idea they were magnetic. 🙃 Can’t wait to wear them again now! Love this video!
This is why I always wave a magnet over any glitter polish. I've found some over the years. It's a fun thing to discover.
Which ones have you found?
Wow that is so cool!!! I wonder if this is true for any other older big brand nail polishes in this metallic formula…
I'm curious to try my magnet on a bunch of random polishes and find out lol!!
@@KelliMarissa vlog it!
I did
A short on the green one it’s true❤❤❤
Both of these colors are so pretty!😍
Opi did have a couple of magnetic polishes in the James Bond Skyfall collection 12 years ago. An antique gold and a dark silver. They cost alot extra and came with a patterned magnet.
Decked to the Pine is one of my fave shades ❤
So pretty!
decked to the pines is so pretty!
Agreed!!
I have sleigh bells bling and it works beautiful stamped. I'm excited to try this!
Wow they look beautiful magnetized! Maybe the 30 lbs magnet method would work for the velvet nail effect.
I have sleigh bells bling, bought it because I had heard that it was magnetic. Love it❤
Its really just the pigments. Not done on purpose, but a fun bonus
OPI had 2 magnetic polishes in the Skyfall collection. Is that Silva? and Bond James Bond. They were some of my first magnetics actually and they also came with a magnetic tool.
Decked to the Pines is my most recent addition to my collection and I got so many compliments. Can’t wait to try this next time!
I have them but I don’t have a magnetic wand. I guess now you are making me buy one. 😊
i often wondered if other shimmery type nail-polishes could be magnetic as well without being cat eye. I will have to test on some of my gels.
Okay I’m going to check all my metallic polishes now
Is anyone else going to try their magnetic wand over random polishes now?
I've got these too. They definitely did not know they were using a magnetic pigment.
OPI did a magnetic polish collection. It was 007 themed. I still have them and love them!
Oh wow do you remember which year that was?? I remember a 007 collection from 2013 or 2014 but I don't remember magnets!
@@KelliMarissa yes. I just looked at mine.
It was the 2012 skyfall collection. The one that had the real gold polish too.
The magnets that came with them weren’t that good 🧲
Moneypenny is a burgundy
Is That Silva?, is a gunmetal gray
Bond…James Bond, is a bronzy gold colour.
Hope this helps 💅🏼
it might be the type of metalic pigment they used it might have iron in the pigment it probably wasnt intentional but is still really cool
Ooooooo those colors are beautiful ❤❤❤
The silver glitter in metallic shades is a bit metallic so it works. but the polish formula probably isn't ideal for this cause it dries fast. It only works cause you were quick they are usually slower drying or uv cure type if they are avertised as magnetic to give you some time before it sets. That's why they probably dont mention it to avoid people getting angry when it dries too fast.
I love the green magnetized!!
They are both beautiful colors 😍
Thank you for testing it out for us!! I have both polishes, so I'm excited to try it out 🤗
😍😍😍 prettyyyy!! I think they released a couple but in their gel or infinite shine formula some time ago, if I’m not mistaken 😅
I believe it was in their gel formula! But I'd LOVE to see them do a regular lacquer magnetic collection. Maybe they bought magnetic pigment for that and this is an accidental hint at a future collection?? 🧐
I'm looking for 'decked to the pines' immediately. 😮
OPI Liquid sand are my favorite
Neato! I love pleasant little surprises like this! 🥰
Omg I bought decked to the pines and I just checked it and it is 😍
I have Decked To The Pines but no magnet. Do you have a recommendation as to what brand I should get?
Ouuu I have two bottles of decked to the pines !! Trying this asap
This is wild! I'm glad I picked these up.
I don’t have those, but I’m rushing to get them today for sure! 😂
They're honestly gorgeous magnetized or not magnetized lol!
omg I have these, gotta try!
That’s so crazy! What a cool discovery!
Isnt it wild?! I wonder if the brand knew!!
Wow!
😁😁😁
Oh! I'm definitely going to have to grab those now! 😍
I'm sure it wasn't intended to be a magnetic polish, but metallic particles were used to get those finishes.
Try the paper clip heart trick!
I've got a couple of Shorts doing it!! 🥰
Oh cool, I randomly picked up Sleigh Bells Bling at a discount a while back.
Oh wow. Makes me want to check all of my polishes to see if any more are "accidentally" magnetized. I found an old CND one a few months ago by accident.
Haha SAME!!!
I have them now! 😉
Luckily, Sally's has this collection on sale. I ordered both of them, when I saw your video. I just received them today. 🎉
Oh yay!!! Seriously I'm so excited to find this out about these polishes, especially Decked to the Pines haha!
Mind blown! I have both of these and they are indeed magnetic!
I couldn't believe it haha! What are the odds?!
That effect is breathtaking! Is there any way to recreate it with normal polish?
Unfortunately it's not something you can do with all polishes, just magnetic nail polishes, but lots of brands sell them! They're mostly brands you have to buy online but ILNP is a regular nail polish brand that makes beautiful magnetic polishes. I have a long video all about magnetics that explains the process and how it works!
@@KelliMarissa this is the post that made me realize magnetic polishes were even a thing... oh my goodness ❤️
@@MedorraBlue oh you're gonna fall down the rabbit hole with magnetic polishes haha! It's a lot of fun to get into them, there's a bit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of it you'll have super cool nails!!
I have these I'm going to be checking that out!
It's so wild haha!!
I have these and now I can't wait to magnetize them! OPI should have said they were magnetic.
I wonder if they even knew!
Stunning
🥰🥰
Ive seen this in multiple brands, i need to go through my colection with a magnet but thats like 300 polishes lol
There is a brand that specializes in the magnetic polishes. I believe it’s a Japanese brand. I will research in photos, I know I saved it to try later. I will forward it to you.
Ooh let me know! I love magnetics!!
Is tealing festive magnetic? Is it weird to be this excited about this? It’s like opening cereal and finding 2 toys instead of just 1 lol
Ok I checked, tealing festive is not magnetic.
That is so so cool 😍😍
Is the teal from the same collection magnetic too?
I know some indie brand had this happen, they didn't know the pigmets were magnetic, guess it wasn't listed? So it was a surprise magnetic. Maybe OPI didn't realize the pigment was magentic
Where do you get your nail polishes?
Oh wow! 😮
😋😋
I have Decked to the Pines & was excited to find it was. Why wouldn’t they advertise it? Strange
I'm wondering if they even knew haha!
So nice
I have decked to the pines so now I have to try this. If it is cool beans.
I was shocked when I tried it haha! I bet you will be too!
Awesome!
Hey Thks for the tips. I have the green one. I m gonna try! In my opinion they didn't even know themselves 🤣 they must have used a certain formula without knowing it to be magnetic 😂
That’s so cool!
Right?! I love that gold!!!
I really want to order these because of that reason. I didn’t buy any from that collection but now I do. But did you see that Salon Perfect released reflective glitter nail polishes too?! I found them at my local Walmart.
Ooh I haven't seen those yet but I'll keep my eyes peeled!
Actually, it looked like that gold polish DID react to the halo effect, just a little bit. Pretty cool!
Let's talk about how I was placing an order on Beyond Polish and debating about these exact two polishes when I happened to see this...and, of course, promptly added to cart!
I have them and I can’t remember who I heard it from but I started letting everybody know ! 😎
WHAT?!?! I bought Decked to the Pines and WHAT?!!!?
Never go into an MRI wearing these just in case, got it
Interresting 👀
I have the green one. Need to try immediatly 🎉
Maybe those were just the pigments that got the effect they wanted and they happened to be magnetic??? I’m definitely coming up with a lot of theories in my head like maybe it’s a TEST or maybe (much less exciting) the manufacturer sent the wrong pigment on accident?? Sooo bizarre!!!
Where can I buy the magnets?
I'm pretty sure I got one of the other polishes from this collection. I wonder if it's magnetic too.
OPI missed a great opportunity here -- to reach new customers, to sell magnets, to hype their formula, etc. In the hair salon where I go, they do nails, too (but I do home manis; I don't use their nail techs because I'm so much more into the hobby than they are!!); but no one even knew what magnetic pigment in polish was! I was explaining it to them, but everyone had quizzical facial expressions.
Me wondering if the ones I bought from last year's holiday collection are magnetic😮
The irony here is when I first saw a video title about these, I read it as magnetic.... more than once. My brain went all ughtfcfh then finally noticed I was reading it wrong multiple times..... 🤔 so weird that it's actually true they're magnetic 😅🤯
Totally bought these because they are magnetic.
Opi has released magnetics before. The James Bond 007 collection. Bond, James Bond and is that Silva? They actually came with some cool magnets too. Check it out.
Oh I remember that collection! I don't remember there being magnetics though haha I guess I probably just wore them like regular polishes!
