Yeah. I suppose, Mordecai offended Woody, by marking Woody's signature laugh, as annoying. I can already see a dialogue between those two, like this: Mordecai: Well, well, well, look who's here! Woodpecker with the World's most annoying laugh ever. Woody: What?! What did you say about my laugh, you weird colored bird?! Mordecai: You heard me very well, you head banging birdie. Your laugh is very annoying! Woody: Yeah. Says the blue bird, who gets frequently yelled at by a gumball machine. Mordecai: Hey, It's not my fault, he's sometimes a big dork! Also haven't you been threatened to be k¤lled by many people? Woody: Don't remind me of that! Also, about k¤lling. I'm surprised, your raccoon friend didn't shred you already. Raccoons can be vicious. Mordecai: *loses his temper* WHAT?! HOW DARE YOU CALL RIGBY VIOLENT?! GET OVER HERE YOU INTO-WOOD-HEAD-SMACKING BIRD, I'LL PECK YOUR EYES OUT!!! Woody: I'LL PECK YOURS OUT TOO, YOU BLUE COLRED BIRD SLACKER!!! Mordecai and Woody: *have a very intense brawl* Now it's up to you to write, how would Benson (gumball machine) react, when he spots Mordecai and Woody fighting each other.
Red Bellied Woodpeckers can be VERY VERY nasty once they claim a feeding spot. They will NOT tolerate Blue Jays thinking they can bully there way in. They both have extremely sharp beaks but i think the edge goes to the woodpecker there. Plus, the woodpecker obviously has the advantage having "zygodactyl feet". Which is having two toes facing in the front and two in the back. Where as "perching birds" have 3 toes in the front and 1 in the back. These feet, along with thick talons and stiff tail feathers, are what helps woodpeckers to brace, grip, and climb tree trunks in a vertical position. I have 30yrs experience in the avian field and have worked "hands on" with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey. And Budgies to Macaws. So i've seen my fair share of encounters between various bird species while out in the field.

@10.11.9 this is not a hyperaggressive jay, this is a jay being a jay. Corvids are smart, aggressive and competitive they literally harass and chase out EAGLES, they are the dominant birds here
Dang. The blue jay was grabbing his beak and trying to drag him out of there ! And then smashing his head down on the woodpecker’s bill. Bada*s! The woodpecker’s “no backward steps” attitude won the day for him.
As a kid my mom told me a story about feeding birds. She threw out a bunch of stale bread in the side yard and was watched as dozens of robins were chased off by a few black birds. Then she watched as those black birds got chased off by a single blue jay. It's fun to see that something can push back against jays.
Both birds did not even want the same type of seeds/nuts...they should have just talked/tweeted it out and would have been cool with one another taking what they wanted...

Jody True well blue jays are usually aggressive. They usually harass robins etc that have babies so then the robin will get so fed up with the blue jay it will just leave the hatchlings to die or get eaten by ravens crows and blue jays etc.
I agree. The major majority of the time the Red bellied woodpeckers dominate the Bluejays visiting my bird feeder. This is the first time I've seen a jay face off with the Red bellied woodpecker. Wow !!! 😁

Everybody gets along fine so long as there is enough food...this Jay had his heart set on the peanut, there was only one and that was the problem...RB wood peckers would rather have a shelled peanut and Jays would rather have two in the shell. I go thru a 3 lb. bag of peanuts every day.
I imagine so! He exercises his beak and neck more than the other birds. I'm surprised this all took place without any vocal interaction. I wonder if that means they were not deadly serious ... merely expressing pecking order.
Now, i'm not hear to speculate, but based off of what i'm seeing here, one could assume that these two aren't very found of each other. I mean lmk if i'm wrong but..
Oh wow! That blue jay looked scary, kind of gangster at the beginning, but that woodpecker outfought him it appears. Great fight though. Two alphas. All they needed was a red winged black bird involved. Those redwinged black birds are absolute menaces and love to bully and fight even bald eagles
The other birds don't seem to fight but these two. Almost all the time. Why are blue jay and red bellied woodpecker so aggressive toward each other? Even their plume colours are opposite too! The woodpecker lowers down its body and seems scared of the jay, which seems to avoid the trouble and fly away
In our garden I saw starlings took over an established RBW nest, next day the starlings were gone and the RBW were there with a female, lol. Noticed how aggressive RBW's are at our garden feeder.
The way you stop that is to just add more peanuts in the shell, the jays will quickly go for that and take off. I have seen that with my own feedings, and this vid ends that way. It's kinda funny how they will pick up one peanut, put it down and repeat as if they are haggling for the best deal. I feed them un-salted but roasted, I don't think they care if they are raw or roasted but definitely do not give them salted.
I totally agree and do the same thing @my feeders .... The jays covet the peanuts (yes, unsalted, roasted) .. I put bunches of them in the feeder and toss them as well; the jays "dive-bomb" for the peanuts and fly off happily, leaving more time at the feeder for other birds.
@Kindreddzz If it didn't matter then nobody would be fighting. (edit: to be clear it's about establishing a pecking order for the future, dominant birds eat first without conflict and being able to just show up and eat first is an advantage in the long run. )

This woodpecker just doesn't know how to use its main advantage - the crushing bill-hammer.
