On the surface, Dokdo and Izumo look quite similar and certainly overlap in their goals. So what is the difference between these two classes? Which one has more advantages?

Thank You Dung! I feel like Izumo is the most able of the 'Italian-style' carriers (helicopter carriers that can also carry SVTOL aircraft) but the ability to operate landing ships really makes the Dokdo versatile especially for dual-purpose civic disaster response, in impressive add-on...

Both are good but Izumo is much better than Dokdo

Both carriers are nice ships and the Japanese ship may see service in combat if a war breaks out with China. They are a nice backup to the allied fleets and both can carry F-35B aircraft which they would probably have onboard to attack sea targets.
I think js izumo storage inside is quite large for big helicopter. I saw v22 osprey can enter its stomach
Izumo is actually a small aircraft carrier. Its so obvious its intentions is to counter the Chinese Aircraft carriers and aggression. Best of all F-35s gives them better flexibility. The reason it isn't called a aircraft carrier officially is cause it would give proof that the Japanese Defense Force is no longer just a defense force but a functioning capable army, ariforce and navy capable of offensive power.
So its mislabled to keep up apparences. The US encourages it as well cause they know if a war breaks out. the addition of other allies carriers would be a great help in operations in the region. The Japanese carriers assisting with the Super carriers and the Marine assualt ships (themselves likely light carriers) to help fight off Chinese and or Russian opponents. Yes Russia is a threat in that region.

Good stuff, Dung. I was better able to understand the philosophy of Japan's obvious aircraft carrier resurgence, because of your explaining that Japan's area of marine coasts is so large and that placing airfields everywhere would entail even more logistical confusion.

Japan JMSDF Izumo has completed the modification to install F35B. It became possible to operate as an aircraft carrier. But South Korean's Dokdo hasn't Still low performance and has been out of order many times. The two ships are completely different. And South Korea is "Red Teams". Moon Jea-In's South Korea is love China, love North Korea. America and Japan's Enermy =South Koera.

South Korea has virtually abandoned the alliance with the United States by Moon Jae-in. The world knows it. We will fight in China + North Korea + South Korea VS USA + Japan + G7. One is designed to be an assault ship. The other is a misrepresented air craft carrier.
Dokdo was made against Izumo in Japan, but it was found to be defective and not working. The Dokdo cannot be installed on the F35B due to technical problems. Japan does not even deal with it. Ha-ha.

I would like to see the comparison between these ships and the Conte di Cavour, or even the later Trieste which has a slightly different operational role, as they are about the same concept developed form 3 very different countries for different operational theaters. Cavour is a sorto fo bridge ship between the Izumo and the Dokdo class, able to perform the role of ASW and Anphibious warfare while also bei g able to deploy STOVL aircrafts.
Izumo is being converted to operate the J35B as far as I know, but I heard nothing for Dokdo
BTW, the Conte di Cavour is, dimension wise just a twin of the Izumo class, with comparable length, width and displacement.

If humans don't love to fight and kill each other, these could be very nice passenger excursion ships. You can hold weddings and parties on the deck. And also cruise to the Bering Sea to watch whales, seals and aurora from the wide, open deck while sipping hot chocolate.

Yeah stupid comparison. Makes more sense if the comparison was between the Dokdo with the Ise or Hyuga. Makes absolutely no sense pulling in the Izumo or Kaga.. from tonnage to operational needs.
