Great way to hit 46. I guess the lean to allows you to trade tent space/weight in your packs for beer. ;) Took me three trips over three separate Octobers to complete the Dix Range. All 2-night trips (love camping up there). First was introducing two new hikers to the High Peaks. Macomb, South Dix, and Grace from camp near the Slide Brook Lean-to. Second was from the Boquet in late October when Big Game season was on. Dix only, also with a new hiker. Third time was Hough, with a second round of the lower three.
I'm at 40 but probably won't finish until next year. Rehiking a few to let a friend catch up so we can finish together. A woman I know likens the High Peaks to childbirth. It takes a bit of time for selective memory to take over and block the painful parts of a trip, and soon enough the next trip is in the schedule!
