All hot rodders agree that the Northstar platform is the best of all platforms.
@@eriklarson9137 no they def don’t, they all love the LS or coyote or whatever else nobody builds northstars for 1000hp like nivlac tryin to do or we’d have seen it on 1320 video or whatever else all us gearheads watch. I’ve never heard anything but bad things about the north star getting hot and coolant issues I’ve never heard or seen someone work past that and actually build one; even then I don’t think it’s the “best platform” or whatever.
Show me a 6 second stock block North Star.. I’d seriously love to see it no joke at all… but I’ve see several 6 sec “stock block” coyote setups like in the snot rocket mustang…
I bet a 32v Northstar on boost would be insane
Headgaskets may be an issue on the Northstar, I have done them on stock engines. Only 4 bolts per cylinder, it's going to need studs if it's getting boost

As a trailblazer guy that owns 2 I’m glad this platform after all these years is finally getting the love they deserve more people are swapping them then ever Calvin is the man when it comes to them can’t wait to have a built 4200
My wife has driven one of these for over 14 years and 100k miles. In that time we replaced one belt, a coolant reservoir, brakes once, two sets of tires and a bunch of oil changes and two batteries.
She isn't the best thing to drive but she never lets us down and has no rust despite living its entire life in Minnesota winters.
Edit: she bought it at 50k miles for 10k.
That works out to less than 750$ a year for over 14 years and still going strong.
I was starting to hear good things about the old GM straight 6 being turboed. I'm excited to see more

I saw some ford explorers had an inline 6 as well. Now are all these having a iron block if so how heavy?
If it gives you anymore problems with that mid-pull fuel cut, look into installing a MAF. I've seen some Trailblazer OS that do that weird fuel cut when in SD mode. If you add a MAF, that problem goes away. Hopefully that helps you or someone else.
I added the maf back in when i did the a2w set up and it hasn't done it since. That may have been the cure.
Corvette servo and a shift kit to raise the line pressure and speed up the shift's will really go a long way with heat control and clutch clamping power.
I believe the 4L65e in these already have a corvette servo in them. They also have an upgraded sun shell.
I really like that he didn't go for SS wheels for the full sleeper effect.

Dang pretty awesome what the in-line 6 can make!! My trailblazer had the 6 cylinder, then swapped to a 5.3 and turbo but now getting a 6.2 swap!
Right? I mean a 4 cylinder K can put out 6-800 hp pretty easy. But this thing is REALLY throwing down!!
To anyone interested with this build, Nivlac57 has an absolutely insane build with this engine on his channel. Highly recommend!

Needs to have the ground effects and then lowered to be more like the typhoon. Also needs to be painted either black or red. From what I’ve seen these engines can make some serious power with fully built engines.

They make 290 out of the box . Picked one up for my parents. A cherry 06 . Roasts the tires and is a rocket for what it is in stock form. Tons of potential. No one seems to look at them though . They all want the SS instead .

He better put the SS rear ends in or they'll break. At minimum get the extended body rear it's an 8.6 it's a direct drop in.
The 8"and the 7.25 front won't take it, same with the grenade 80 differential.

Oh heck yes they are fast! 200 hp at 4500 lbs. That's a combo dude! I imagine yours had a CAI that added 250hp though.
I want one of these so bad! They are gonna be a hot commodity soon mark my words! Cheap as all get out, awd and uses a popular transmission that has a huge aftermarket.

I have one of these doing the same thing except changing to manual using a AR5 Colorado / canyon 5 speed with TBSS t case

Nivlac and his dad are awesome dude.. if you end up seeing a 2016 silverado with a vortec 4200 you'd know where i pick idea from. Really looking at the l8t motor or vortec 4200. Totally different rout.. one much cheaper.
Arkteck has a intake manifold. Calvin has one. Just don't know if it's for sale yet. I have thought about doing this myself.

Brother i have been wanting to do this to mine for over a year but I never found much aftermarket support
There are more and more parts becoming available. Emtech makes parts, snake eater has injectors, artec offers the turbo manifold, then everything else is up to the builder. They can be ran on megasquirt or maxxecu as well as other stand alones.

These 4200s with some decent internals can make a crap load or power easily over 1k with boost

honestly I think these things are goofy but in a kinda wow it fast and sound cool but looks like just a blob on 4 wheels. He could put c4 auto shift servos in that like my buddy has in his 06 trailblazer. it makes the shifts more aggressive but my buddy is a transmission tech and built his transmission "built" meaning upgraded linkage,servos, and has sum aftermarket ring gears. He didn't touch a single other part besides brakes and tires tho lmaoo

Been following his build since the beginning, im basically a die hard Ford guy but still appreciate oddball engine combos of any brand. I bought a 72 Opel wagon that because of following Calvin’s Atlas success im going to do a turbo 2.9 4cyl Atlas/4L60 swap on it for a fun 3-400hp cruiser, should be in the 21-2200lb range so it will be fun
I'm just over half-way thru the video, and I already would've stopped wasting time and bought a HalTech and Wiring Specialties harness...
The car we are swapping an atlas into will have a standalone. The goal of this was to show it could be done. People have tuned the stock p12 with boosted applications. No one had really done the e67 despite it being the same ecu has corvettes, ctsv, etc. Now the bugs are sorted it runs great.

I really wished these Atlas motors came in the 6-cyl, 4th gen camaro. Maybe then they'd have developed an aftermarket.
I think the only reason they never got any support, is coz every car they powered took kids to soccer practice. I don't think they're as stout as the Barras, but even still, could be a low-budget, American junkyard motor if they'd have ever been hot-rodded.

It’s a shame they gave up on them. While they’re not as stout at some other straight 6’s they’re still pretty good and have potential. Stuff like the Barra doesn’t make a ton of power stock either and needs the aftermarket support for the big numbers.
A straight 6 ends up so tall it’s hard to fit them in much besides trucks and SUVs. To stick one in a sports car you end up needing to lay it over at an angle so the hood isn’t tall.
I think a big part of why people haven’t taken to them is because the LS exists. With that you have greater power potential for similar money and effort.
Don't think a straight 6 would fit in a 4th gen f body but anyway gm paired these engines with good ol garbage 4l60e

The problem is the head is so flow restricted.
Have any information to back that up ? The intake flows close to 300 CFM stock and 350 CFM , those are really good numbers for an engine that was destined to be in a family hauler.

Its a completely stock long block lol. Calvin has taken a stock sealed long block to over 600whp and completed a drag and drive event on it.
