    This seems like a great product but from reading the manual there looks like a glaring omission in functionality, but please correct me if I've got this wrong...
    Why is there no option to have two pickup coils wired in-phase and parallel to each other?
    Several of my Ibanez HH guitars come from the factory for example with position 5 as the neck humbucker in series, and position 4 as the neck humbucker in parallel (in phase).
    The manual suggests coils can only run in parallel when out of phase (shows as yellow).
    Plus there's other options that seem to be unavailable. For example running the bridge and neck humbuckers in series with each other. I'm assuming that you can only run pickups in parallel with other pickups? Can you run south pole of neck pickup in series with north pole of bridge?
    Maybe an 'advanced' mode?

    This looks incredible! I had a Line 6 Variax for a time and loved the ability to program patches for the 5 way. One idea, and probably would increase the footprint a bit, but a rechargeable version where you plug in a USB charger (probably with a small mod to the pickguard, or maybe on the switch itself). That way you wouldn't have to take off the pickguard to change the battery.

    The one thing holding this brilliant idea back from perfection is the ability to partially tap a coil. This is commonly done these days by most of the major manufactures for partially tapping humbuckers instead of fully splitting and turing one of the coils 100% off because the result is much more usable and less anemic.
    All that would need to be done to make this possible is have the ability to have an extra wire running out of the switch that is intended to be run to ground. This wire would only be activated when one of the coils is being tapped/run to ground. Then a user could decide if they want to wire in a resistor in series prior to connecting this cable to ground.
    I personally would either use this in a spin-a-split manner using a volume/tone pot as a variable resistor to vary the amount of partial tapping for the selected coil, or I would uses a push/pull or mini switch to provide some pre-fixed options.
    Nonetheless, this is a very exciting product and it would be even more so if there was a LP style toggle option too, especially if that was also a 6 position switch (i.e. like the Freeway Ultra switch).

    Call me cheap, but I spent $10 on 3 switches for my HSH guitar. The buckers go thru on/off/on DPDT’s and the middle single pup has an on/off push button latching switch. Neck pup- split or full, and bridge pup in/out phase. 13 distinct switch options and independent wiring (3 vol. controls) that enable pickup blending and make that out of phasing sound amazing! Master dual tone. User friendly layout with old school tech. 🥃🍺

    @davidkristyhaan3178 Před 11 měsíci

    @seymourduncan would you be able to connect pickups with a braided shield or no?
    More importantly for me. Is it possible to run multiple pickups in series? I use a tele and jazzmaster with s1 switches for series/parallel when both neck and bridge singlecoils are active. That’s about the only thing I don’t see readily if this switch can do this or not.
    Also, being a jazzmaster guy, can you run just a capacitor into the tone control slots for fixed position tonal options? I use the rhythm circuit on my JM a lot but keep the 50k tone control maxed, so a 50k capacitor would allow me to save real state in the control cavity instead of a second tone control.

    I wanna install it on some of my guitars as soon as it becomes available!
    I have a few questions though.
    1. Will the switch need to be connected to the app at all times in order to work properly? or are all the presets installed inside the system itself? (i.e. TC Electronic's Toneprint)
    2. Do you have plans to release push pull and mini toggle extensions for this? that will be a cool way to change presets on the fly :)

    So, just got my P-Rails set a few days ago and about to get the Classic Stack Plus to go along with them then seen this, which I think is quite an ingenious idea. Amazing actually!!!
    Just wondering:
    1. Can it up set up so I can get phase reverse between any two pickups?
    2. Is there a screen where I can easily change the patch in one touch or do I have go through menus?
    3. I have a concern about logging on. Many venues do not have wifi due to being under ground etc etc, do I have to login in order to use the app or is login only for registration?
    4. Can I setup my patches on the way to a gig in the back of the tour bus using only the app or do I have to be connected to the guitar?
    Great innovative product but because we are not keyboard players we sometimes cannot see the point. I have Roland VG products so really welcome this.

    • @seymourduncan
      @seymourduncan  Před rokem

      Hey Chris, thanks for the support. Hope this helps.
      1) Yes, that is correct. Choose reverse from the menu for that pickup or coil and it will reverse the wind direction and would be out of phase when combined with another pickup in standard wind (grey).
      2) You can set up various presets to store different configurations that you like and then flip through each preset. You don't have to make a new config every time if you find something you like.
      3) HyperSwitch stores the last preset you loaded onto it. The app is mainly to change or create presets stored to HyperSwitch.
      3) You'll have to be connected to the app with HyperSwitch in hand to assign positions and configurations.

    ok, last comment for now. So if i pair with BT and choose how i want the pickups/options etc routed...should battery die etc, iPhone die, etc will the switch maintain the configuration that i chose to use ? Or does it require an active battery to maintain state ?

      That was my first question. From the manual: "HyperSwitch must have power to work - a *dead battery will result in no sound". Apparently 60% battery power or more is needed for bluetooth connection, but it can continue to work on your guitar below 60%.

    This would be infinitely more interesting with the ability to have one pickup go to a different out than the other(s) .It would open up a whole lot more options that would remedy the need for external switching for stuff like single coils in series or humbuckers in parallel .Im guessing that really ups the complexity depending on what is being used to do all it does already

    @pavlospapanastasatos Před 11 měsíci

    The idea is really killer. It can unlock all the possibilities which is amazing, especially when you want to try different sounds in the studio. And while you are not meant to change wirings on stage, I do have two concerns though: 1. It seems impossible to have split coil switch in HSH guitars. 2. modified tone controls. For example, I have one double pot as sole tone control which works like all other pots from 1-5 Hi-cut and from 5 to 10 like a lo-cut. If I put the hyperswitch I don't think that I could have the tone working like it does now.
    The split coil option is very common, but the tone pot issue can be even more important, as in my experience, the modified tone control made a big difference in the sound.

    It would be also fine if you could set up volume for every position. In that case you could adjust single to be as loud as humbucker and all in/out phase also or to just give some push from pickup.

What about Bluetooth signals can they penetrative well shielded control cavitys? What about RF noise from processor and switch mode power supply? But i also have a rare Ibanez Pia, Sun Dew Gold from 2020 CV19 lockdowns. It's HSH - whilst i'd never install this switch on that ? i can see how it would be beneficial given the existing tones of the Pia. Not to detract from the cool ability to dynamicly change wiring and tone configuration - for which, guitar circuitry is needlessly overcomplicated. Making that easy is a welcomed idea. It would be cool to control with a pedal controller instead of an app but the proximity limitations might hinder that.

      Thanks for the comment! Each position of your 5-way switch acts as a preset. You don't need to use the phone when you want to play guitar. Unless you wanted to change to another parent preset or adjust a pickup configuration.
      Many people already own a phone. Developing a pedal controller could complicate things and add additional costs vs. a free app on a phone you already own!
      I hope this helps!

      Hey Paul! Thanks for reaching out. HyperSwitch is expanding the world of possibility with your guitar. We're not switching between only 5 positions. We're going beyond that and allowing you previous access to tones that would've taken hours to rewire manually.

    Remove the account requirement and I'll buy it. You don't get to data-mine people who paid you $150 for a switch. Enough is enough. Seriously, it's like a bad sci-fi dystopia when your *guitar* is invading your privacy to use its basic functionality. I say this because I love Seymour Duncan and this is a brilliant idea. It's just a shame to see you follow the Facebook ideology of data collection.

    ok. i have guitars with mods like coil split, reverse polarity, phase shift, series mode, etc.. 90% of the time i never use them.. coil splits never ever sounds right, its just reduced output and more treble but never a true chimy single coil. PRS DGT do come really close. these are versatility options that seems great and wonderful at first but realize they are useless to people who play guitar like a normal person. also, guitarists have multiple guitars and swapping guitars is still the best way to get the tonal variety one needs. impressive showcase but not practical.

      Thanks for the comment! Not everyone can tour with multiple guitars and have a tech to rewire their guitar. Not to mention in the studio when you're layering guitar tracks on each other or experimenting with sounds. HyperSwitch is just another tool to be used!

    Look, I love you guys... But this is a clear case of "so preoccupied thinking if they could they didn't stop to think if they should". I honestly cannot see how a micro computer, a 9v battery, a bluetooth connection, a smartphone, an internet connection and an online account simplifies "wiring".

      Pea brain brother. One day of headaches figuring everything out. Limitless options and configurations without having to solder again. You can look at fishman fluence back plate battery or their universal battery instead of using a 9v.

      @ferna182 Před 9 měsíci

      @@johnnyc8742 and what will you do when SD inevitably stops updating the app in the future? Seriously, wiring is not hard. If you can't figure it out, take it to a technician. It'll be cheaper, easier and will last forever. Replacing 4 wires with a computer is 100% not the answer, and this is coming from a software developer.

    • @johnnyc8742
      @johnnyc8742 Před 9 měsíci

      @@ferna182 there aren’t many more updates they could do to the app other than ui. Reverse polarity isn’t changing & pickup configuration isn’t changing. Yes I agree soldering isn’t that hard but it saves a lot of time and possible issues coming up from from continuously soldering (play time > technician time). Innovation always is met with backlash and I get it but a lot of new high end guitars have motherboards in them such as the majesty and these innovations allow you to do things you couldn’t normally do. Being a software developers doesn’t make you judge jury and executioner. Cars didn’t have computers in them and now they do, great innovation (Obviously not the same just another example). The main issues you have are over in one day and on top of it once you set your configurations you don’t need to connect to your phone anymore so you don’t always need a bluetooth connection. You should be happy a company is still interested in innovating the guitar space we both know we are dying breed.

    No in phase parallel options make this pretty useless. Who needs an out of phase parallel sound? I guess no one! I been rubbing my eyes when checking the manual on your site, and seeing only out of phase parallel sounds. So no need for this switch, and, to be serious, most musicians do not have the need, to use such strange sounds, like possible here. If they got their sound, they even often reduce the switch options to 3, so they got no not needed sounds. May be in phase parallel sounds are technical ot possible, cause there has to be switched plenty of wires, when 2 humbuckers are used at the same time. Or could this get improved with a firmware update? It is a funny toy for guys that want to play with that, and are having fun, using bluetooth, but not too many guitar players want to use 9V batteries in their passive pickup instrument, and most instruments require battery routing, to get the space for that. Just my thoughts, .... try to get the in phase parallel sounds!

      Hello! Thanks for the comment, Alex. We just wanted to clear a few things up.
      You can bypass the account setup. You don't need an internet connection. We're not tracking your location; the battery only drains voltage when connected to the app. Ideally, you'd use the app for a few minutes, set your tone, save presets and disconnect.
      I hope this helps!
