Mrekk is the undisputed greatest osu player of all time. If you say shige was better in his prime then you're just blinded by nostalgia

Tbf, I think they still got it, even though they didn't improve. Vaxei came back and set sightread chronostasis and tourney pp record on malis's top play at the time WHILE VSING MALIS! Also got second place on MGC and got USA another owc win. Whitecat still chokes plenty of really good HR and NM plays that are like near pp record for those mods. Not to mention he set some DTHR 1.1k chokes and 1.2ks chokes despite playing so little. And I think he won an aim tourney in 2023. And did pretty well in owc and team tourneys in general.

Mrekk being number 1 as usual
The fact that even if you dont put shige's name you still know its him because of how insane and unique some of his plays are is why he will always be my favorite player.
And man hearing wing my way will always make me tear up
Maliszewski is my favorite player of 2023/24 by far, incredibly consistent, amazing reading abilities, and amazing technical skill.
He might not have the raw speed that Mrekk has, but I'd argue that his technical ability is higher.
Maliszewski has some disgusting scores that shouldn't even be possible.
Also honorable mention to Woey for improving quite a bit in the past year.
