Hello friends! In this video I have created a compilation of 10 furniture projects, trash to treasures, and thrift flips from my channel. The pieces in this video are mostly farmhouse, shabby chic, glam, modern, and boho but could easily appeal to other styles as well. I will be linking the playlist that has all of my past furniture projects on it so you can watch the full length makeovers of every one of these projects if you want to get more detailed information about their transformations.
Thank you for watching and supporting my channel. The income I earn from my channel has helped me be able to donate my pieces to those in need. My current focus is young adults that are aging out of the foster care system. Please help me hit my goal of 50k subscribers by the end of the year (and beyond!).
Playlist of all of my full length makeover videos: • Trash to Treasure and ...

I raised 23 foster children over the years, and it was very hard for them to start out on their own. We used to take them shopping at thrift stores for kitchen items and some basics to create a hope chest. Then as moving day came we would throw them a house warming party and invite all our friends and their friends and people for the church and social services. In the invitation we would put a list of what they still needed and some wish for items. Sometimes a group of friends would pool their money and buy an expensive item. When they turned 17, they started a year long class at social services where they were taught life skills. As they completed each skill set, they would earn a prize like a crock pot or a microwave. That sort of stuff.
I sure wish that we had known someone like you back then. Thank you so much for what you are doing for these kids.

This former social welfare worker thank you from the bottom of my heart. I can't tell you how great the need is for foster children, and how greatful we are for your service The Child Welfare system is far over burden. However, with supportive Foster parents (and others) who are going beyond the distance, some children, among the thousands, are given a chance. Can't say THANK YOU enough. God bless.

I did that too with a few who had goals and wanted to do something for their future. I am sorry to say that many of the girls just wanted to be free to have their boyfriends stay with them so they didn’t take advantage of our offers. Sadly the boyfriends were mostly lazy bums who were just looking for a needy girl to support them with her welfare money. So many kids raised in the foster care system are so desperate for a forever love relationship that they are easy prey. This was in California and the child welfare system had very bad program of moving kids every 6 months. They strongly discouraged the foster parents from bonding with the kids and from maintaining contact with them. I watched most of the little kids develop a failure to be able to bond. After seeing so many kids lives ruined by their time in foster care, I started to have wonderful dreams about killing social workers with my bare hands. I took that as a sign that it was time to stop taking any new kids and transition out myself. I am still touch with a few of the kids. Well they are now in their 30’s and doing well. Sadly I don’t know what became of the rest.

You put so much love into all these humble pieces.
After 34 years working in the foster care system I am grateful that you are thinking about the young people who age out without continuing a case plan. At 18 it’s normal to be ready to go your own way, but they usually leave with no safety net. You have realized the need for hand me down furniture.

I just started the video and you've just gotten the primer on the mirror frame.
This is a great time saver.
I got 3 of those flexible plastic cutting boards from mom when she went into assisted living. I don't like them I like cutting on an actual wood cutting/bread board. But I found if there's enough gap, I can slide them between the frame and the glass, and there is no glass cleanup.
Very heavy paper or thin cardboard will do the same, but It's usually not reusable.
Back to the video....I love your stuff!
You also just inspired me because I've been painting furniture for a long time, but it never occurred to me to do it for young adults aging out of foster care. God bless!

Unfortunately I have carpal tunnel and arthritis and using a brush is very hard on my wrists and hands so I cant do it very often

Wow until I rewatched this I'd forgotten how many pieces youd done, as for choosing colours for upcoming projects why dont you visit some kids and ask then what all the latest colours they like,or ask then to fill in a colour chart, the only other thing is to follow what's all in fashion now,mid century modern and farmhouse decor/boho. Hope this give you some different ideas. X

Thank you Shirley! I haven't been able to meet up with any of them. I do know that one likes purple and lavender and needs a small dining table so im on the look out for that.

Taupe- it’s so under used today. It’s a very soft color.

As a college painting major I would wear pretty nice clothing to painting classes as a freshman because I had other lectures to attend on those same days. One day I sat on the rung of a step ladder in the studio and found bright orange paint on my good slacks! Dang! That day I went to a second hand shop and found a pair of used overalls and wore those for painting classes from then on. If I got paint on them who cared? Always wear old clothes to do projects. It saves your clothes and saves you money. I also do this when gardening -- I wear old sneakers rather than my newest pair, and clothes that I save just for messy work. Professional painters, potters, weavers and batikers learn this stuff early on.
