“Heavy Seas of Love” se titula esta magnífica pieza autoría e interpretación del extraordinario Damon Albarn, ex de “Blur”, en colaboración con el mega talentoso y siempre inquieto Brian Eno, misma que se extrae del extraordinario álbum del primero a su vez titulado “Everyday Robots”, acetato cuyo contenido guarda tal consistencia y calidad que puedo asegurar que la totalidad de las piezas que lo integran son libres de cualquier decisión discriminatoria o motivación de desperdicio.
“Heavy Seas of Love” es autoría tripartita de ambos, Albarn y Eno, con el productor Richard Russell. La melodía guarda características magníficas, típicas de Damon Albarn pero atípicas en el espectro musical de hoy, mismas que seguramente causaron fascinación en Eno, siempre inquieto y en inagotable ánimo de exploración musical.
Damon Albarn y Brian Eno se conocieron musicalmente gracias a la mutua inquietud por explorar tendencias musicales diversas y muy particulares en el país Africano de Malí, justamente mientras se vivía en dicho país un conflicto político de invasión extremista que pretendía erradicar toda manifestación musical. De hecho, en su caminar exploratorio por ese país Africano, ambos convivieron y entablaron contacto musical con artistas como la agrupación Songhoy Blues, cuyo trabajo ya he compartido, y otros artistas igualmente talentosos y de casi nulo reconocimiento internacional, incluso en el propio “continente negro”. De hecho, Damon Albarn terminó invitando a Songhoy Blues a participar como “grupo de apertura” de algunos conciertos en Londres y en otras ciudades de su natal Gran Bretaña. Brian Eno a su vez facilitó a la citada agrupación la posibilidad de ver grabada su música, vía referencias en la industria disquera.
Cuán inconfundible es la sutil voz de Brian Eno y cuanto destaca en la presente “Pesados Mares de Amor”, particularmente al entonar las palabras de la frase que da lugar al título de esta excelente pieza.
Es realmente admirable la incansable exploración musical que siempre ha desplegado Eno, desde sus inicios con Roxy Music al comenzar los setentas, pasando por su colaboración con otros talentos como Robert Fripp de King Crimson, sus trabajos con su hermano Roger, sus búsquedas profundas por la “música ambiental” y las distintas sensaciones de los sonidos, sin dejar de mencionar su facilidad para identificar talento especial precisamente como el de Damon Albarn, o incluso como de agrupaciones más populares (que escapan mi propio gusto musical) como U2.
Por su parte, conocedor de la oferta musical de “Blur”, no me queda duda de que el trabajo como solista de Damon Albarn supera sustancialmente el material del grupo que integraba, el cual me da la impresión que limitaba su libertad creativa y su proceso evolutivo.
