You have got to be kidding me. This was 32 years ago! Gymnasts like Nastia and Shawn owe their entire careers to gymnasts like Mukhina. She was one of the great innovators of the sport, following Korbut and Comaneci. Sports evolve, but it is incredibly insulting for you to compare Mukhina (a genius in her day) to level 8/9er's of today.
wow fantastic. I like what seems to me to be here a style that is in between the earlier "airy fairy" (no disrespect intended) style and today's almost aggressive acrobatic "attack the beam" kind of routine, amazing as it is. The story of this girl makes me so, so sad. She was so talented, yet rarely looked to me like she really loved what she was doing. Although to get to that level you'd think a person would have to love it to have the drive to do it. I don't know. So sad.
No doubt in my mind you would have master these four apparatus if it wasn’t for your accident. I truly miss her. Will continue to watch this for memory.

Does anyone know how she broke her leg. I love watching her. I'd like to see longer videos of her performances. It's sad how she was treated thou. She was great at her sport.
From this to a paraplegic because of the corrupt Soviet system and her rotten coach. Then they hid it and when it came out that she was paralyzed from the neck down they tried to blame it on her. She died in her early 40s from complications of the paraplegia. Her coach died at 65 from cancer (karma). She never blamed her coach because she was a class act. RIP Elena.
As I recall, she said that her coach acted as he did with her because of the pressure he was getting from those higher in the Soviet sports system. Even so, that takes one hell of an understanding and compassionate spirit.
Nadia Comaneci won the AA competition. Nadia was the only one who got a perfect 10 in the beam final. Nadia was superior to Mukhina in all aparatus in these Euros.
How do you figure? Elena Mukhina performed a full-twisting Korbut on bars and dismounted with a hecht-back somersault. On the beam she dismounted with a double back where Nadia only did a double-twist. Not to mention that she did a handspring front and full-twisting Tsukahara on vault whereas Nadia's vaults were much simpler. In the floor of course she did a full-in which Nadia never did in competition on her career.Are you biased against Russians or something? I noticed that you also thrashed Yelena Davydova who was the 1980 Olympics AA champion.

Elena’s floor and bars were way more daring& exciting to watch. Comaneci is a very good gymnast, but she is not the best. Her name got her a long way
