    So refreshing to see something other than a Unifi used for a router/firewall.
    I too am I big fan of Juniper. Work with them every day, run them at home.

      Ha! You'll be sad then with my later videos when I flip over to the UDM Pro... I do love Juniper - learned firewalls on them then went after their certs last year. It is the best CLI out there and commit confirmed is the greatest command ever.
      I have my SRX300 and SRX320 in the lab. Our shop is moving away from them which makes me sad, but I want to keep that skill up solely because I love the CLI so much.

    Why does everything look backwards? I see the sfp ports on the left side and the Ubiquiti screen on the right side and the StarTech lettering of the rack looks backwards? I like the use of the fiber connections, I have just recently installed optical transceivers and fiber cables and it works great and less heat for each of these connections. Thanks for going into detail when you explain the switches and trunk ports and POE.

      I believe I was mirroring the recording which inverts the image.
      Appreciate the feedback! Fiber was a great option for this setup and now with the UDM Pro, its even better!

      Still learning about video editing with the software I use. It’s something I’ll look at in the settings for the next video.

    Very nice explanation of how the Unifi network works, thanks!
    I have a UCG Ultra as a router where I adopted two switches, some AP's, some cams and a doorbell (all UniFi).
    On my UCK G2 plus I have Protect running and no devices are adopted.
    When I look inside the network settings of my UCK I there is a third-party gateway mentioned instead of my UCG Ultra as a gateway. In your video @ 14.40 it is the same and also no subnets are visible.
    Is this normal? I know the UCG Ultra and the UCK are completely different devices and cannot be adopted by each other . But it is strange that the UCK cannot see the UCG Ultra, its a UniFi device.

    • @TCD_TheComputerDad
      @TCD_TheComputerDad  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Are you using the UCK for protect? You mention there are no protect devices adopted. If not using Protect, then I would remove the UCK from the network.
      They both run UniFi OS and act as controllers.
      When in the UCG, are you seeing the device as the available gateway?
      I have not played around with that configuration specifically, but things I would triple check:
      - Everything is on the same LAN
      - You can see both devices in you UI management portal
      - The UCG is set as the network gateway for any VLANs configured

      @MarkvanBragt Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@TCD_TheComputerDad I’ve got the protect devices adopted in the UCK G2 and inside the UCK G2 I see the UCG Ultra as third party router, not as the UCG Ultra.
      Inside the UCG Ultta I can see the UCG Ultra as router (by name, not third party router).
      Both devices can be seen in the Unifi portal

      @@MarkvanBragt - Ah, I reread what is going on and I understand now. The UCG is the network controller now and identifies itself as the router. I would not be concerned about not seeing it in the UCK. The network app running on the UCK is no longer relevant to your network. The UCK is either getting DHCP from the UCG or is statically assigned on the UCG-defined network. It sounds like this is working as expected.
      Since I have the UDM Pro on mine, if I were to turn up the UCK on the network again and go into the UCK Network app, I'd see the same thing. It's like LOR, one controller to rule them all!

    Question, what do you have on the top? Is it some wood or something you cut to fit? I have the same rack, I have it set to 35" depth because that was the deepest fixed shelf I could find, very similar to what you've got installed at U13. I have the shelf at U25 for storage on top, and it is doing the same as you one you have, it is sagging in the middle a bit (6:39), however like yours, there is not much weight on it at all. Anyway, I am exploring ideas for a new top shelf. I saw another video of a guy with the 42U model, and he cut some wood and placed it down in the bottom as a shelf below post level, it didn't look pretty but, functionally was great.

      @TCD_TheComputerDad  Před 11 měsíci

      It is the top of an old standing desk table. It happened to fit perfectly and I had transitioned to a motorized standing desk, so on the rack it went!
      I’m hoping the shelf holding the UPS fares better. It’s far thicker than the utility shelf up top, but we shall see!

      The video is inverted. I have to figure out how to avoid that in future videos. It’s installed the right way - I do this for a living 😉🤣
