How tough did you find it? I've never sewed before and want to use ultralight fabrics like M10 but worried those thin materials will be fussy to work with

Hey great video loved the dcf tent video also, i was just debating on making a synthetic quilt as a first myog, this looked easier then a down karo-step quilt (also a less expensive screw-up).
Just a small question on the cord channel at around 2:30 in the video: you fold it length wise and have to two open edges facing the top like the rest of the fabric, right?
Thats a smart addition, not pulling th cord throught the main body but adding a channel.
Another small question on fabrics, i read your website (link in the description is just text not a link fyi) you mention getting a wind resistant fabric on the outside and a softer more breathable fabric on the inside.
Could you give some examples, i'm somewhat confused on how a fabric could be breathable but also wind resistant.
Thanks! Its funny you mention that beacause I'm actually just finishing up a video on how to make a karo step quilt. Synthetic quilts are definitely a whole lot easier to build but down quilts do have some massive advantages over synthetic.
Yes, thats correct sewing the cord channel like that or in a similar fashion is kinda the standard for quilts.
The more wind resistant a fabric is, the better it will hold in heat, even if theres no wind. Think about how much warmer wearing a rain jacket is compared to a reguar cotton shirt. A good test of wind resistance is to just blow into differnt fabrics and take note of how much air is able to pass through them. When I talk about breathability, Im talking about a fabrics ability to let water vapor (perspiration) pass through it. Theres no easy way to test for breathability. Using fabrics that are less breathable will make your quilt feel more clammy. An optimal fabric for an ultralight synthetic quilt will have the highest level of breathability and wind resistance. The wind resistance and breathability of the fabric on a quilt plays a huge roll in comfort and warmth but since theres not a lot of options to choose from with ultralight fabrics, If you choose fabrics based on your budget and what kind of durability youd like, youll probably be happy.

what jacket is that? (1:30) no zipper? :o
It's one that I made. It has like a 1/4 zip. The lack of a full front zipper significantly increases the jackets warmth and reduces weight... with the tradeoff of it being harder to manage body heat.
