Good to see young women working to resolve conflicts in our community. There is no doubt there is a power inbalance between male and female Tibetans. It’s the long held attitudes towards girls/women in the family and in our society. We must overcome these short comings by changing our historical attitudes that has often treated girls with less respect. Our Buddhism doesn’t allow this but in the society where it came from there was a big disparity between men and women. That’s why, Tibetans have been influenced by that culture where our religion comes from. However, it can be safely said that our society is more kind to women and girls than most other cultures owing to our Buddhist tenet of ahimsa!
