- In Valkenburg aan de Geul, the Christmas town (Dé kerststad van Nederland), not far from Maastricht, you can really get into the mood for the christmas time. The beautiful town shines in the Christmas glow and that for over 30 years. There are a lot of caves and with the Gemeentegrot also the oldest, largest and most visited underground Christmas market in Europe. Here you can stay for hours and just enjoy. The highlight is Saturdays and Wednesdays, the half-hour Christmas parade. We were here for the first time and have had a lot of fun, we just did not make many other attractions, because there should be more than 200 km of underground passages there and at 12 degrees constant cave temperature, the weather does not matter!

Without doubt . Best Christmas market I have been to. Parade on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Underground caves . Great food and drink , suggest you stay in old part of town , kids will love it .
Hello Ray is four days long enough to visit and see everything.We are thinking of visiting next December with my two daughters,also if we get into Amsterdam is it better to get the train or coach to vakenburg from there.
My family and I did the valkenburg Christ mas markets some years ago. Watching this video brought back some lovely memories.

Yes, of course, there are various caves with different themes, in addition to Christmas market in the old town with great flair and every saturday evening the Christmas street spectacle!
We go every year from the UK. Most definitely worth the trip from here. A lovely town and the Christmas markets are a wonderful sight.
