Sgt. Reckless may be the most heroic horse of all time. You'll be shocked at what she did! As seen on The Horse Show with Rick Lamb. Commercial free. Enjoy!
I am a South Korean who was born in 1990. I know that many countries, including the United States, participated in the Korean War to help South Korea, which was invaded by the Communist Party. It is thanks to you that many Koreans have free life today, and I will never forget it and let my children know. Thank you from Republic of Korea.
Semper Fi, SSgt. Reckless! I've had the privilege of visiting some of the hills and battlefields in Korea where you served most gallantly. You might have been small in stature but you were a giant warrior on the battlefield and you are not forgotten!
I actually know the guy, Art, who took care of this horse in her retirement years. He is so full of animation when he speaks about her, and oh the stories he told me! He'd get all teared up; he really loved the old girl. She really was one special horse!!
I am a US Marine. I cant believe we aren't taught about her in Bootcamp. I mean talk about a unsung hero who stood her ground and seemed to realize she was needed by those war fighters. I am so glad that in 2016 Camp Pendleton erected a Statue of her. I've been to Pendleton several times but early 2000's so I never saw it. They should make a movie specific to her.
Absolutely. I believe that stories like Reckless' should be told; God used a mere horse to save many lives. I know the ex-marine who took care of her in her retirement years, and he couldn't say enough about that little horse. Thank you for serving good old America!
What a beautiful story of this magnificent loyal horse to my beloved Marine corps. RECKLESS REST IN PEACE , I believe you were the toughest Marine that ever was. SEMPER FI, MAY WE SEE YOU TALANT AND LEADERSHIP AGAIN.
Such a horse type is called "Jorang-mal" in Korean. Jorang means "tiny" and Mal means "horse." As a Korean, I am proud of this lady having served as a U.S. Marine.
That is so interesting. I read an article about Reckless in "Horse Lover's"magazine. In the article she was referred to as a "race horse". I know she was very small. From your knowledge, was Reckless from stock used in Korea for racing?
@@lynnehuff9659 Jorang kind is originated from Mongol. So Reckless is a basically descendant of those Mongolian horses used by Mongolian Empire. Maybe that was why she was so brave! And yes, Reckless was originally raised as a race horse by the former owner Hyukmoon Kim, who later decided to sell her to United States Marine Corps because he needed money for his sister's surgery. Reckless' former name was 아침해, which means 'Morning Sunshine' in Korean language. Salute to all heroes who served in Korean War. We South Koreans live freely thanks to them.
Sergeant Reckless you are a first class Marine rest in peace beautiful lady you make me cry sometimes because you are indeed a hero I hope you are never forgotten
If you think about it, if it hadn't been for the horse our civilization wouldn't exist as it is today. The services provided by this Noble creature should never be forgotten. And without donkeys we never would have had mules. Throughout history countless numbers of horses, donkeys ,and mules have provided transportation, tilled the ground, and gone into battle for us. We owe them a debt of gratitude.
It's true! We can not allow the horses to be relagated to the past and disregarded. We can not allow the horse haters to claim that everything is abuse and want all rhings horse to be banned.
I don't know why, but the video left out this great and funny part of the horse's story. Found this below on some other website... "After posing for photographs, she [the war hero horse named Reckless] was taken to a reception in the theater of the Marines’ Memorial Club. Later, she stepped into an elevator for the first time and rode 10 floors to the banquet hall where she was guest of honor at a Marine Corps anniversary celebration. “With Pedersen and (Elmer) Lively as escorts, she trooped into the dining room to the thunderous applause of 400 marines and their ladies,” Geer wrote. “While being introduced, she spied a two-foot-high anniversary cake and helped herself before anyone could stop her.” Reckless also grazed on the rose and carnation flower centerpieces. ..."

Heard about her story a couple of years ago. Heartfelt and amazing. They gave her a statue at the Kentucky Horse Park just recently. I salute you, little Staff Sergeant Reckless.
This horse is from Tseju island of South Korea and you can see it is much smaller horse than many species which is the main feature of Mongolian horse. During Khublai khaans Mongol occupation of Korea during 14-15th centuries probably thousands of mongol horses also lived there and possibly some bigger number of Mongolian horses left on Korean island of Tseju.
Hopefully before I die there is a movie made about her. Spielberg did Warhorse. I have seen every big horse movie. They need to make a movie about her. What a galant horse. I think she knew those Marines needed her. I think animals may not express as we do but they can read facial expressions and understand tone. Ill have to go to Quantico to see her statue.
@@dickfitswell3437 If you get a chance to read Robin Hutton’s book Sgt Reckless, you’ll hear about her amazing bond with her fellow marines. I’m certain she would do anything they asked of her. And then share a beer after!

I had not heard of this amazing horse until recently. A sister of mine mentioned a movie about Reckless, and apparently she was referring to this documentary. Fascinating!
Its disappointing that camp Pendleton did not keep here in a safe environment and that she had to be put down. We dont know the details but to think that such a hero met an untimely and unfortunate death makes me sad.
I can say that horse was Mongolian horse! In WW2 a lot of horses were sent from Mongolia to battle fields to take Soviet Union solders. They we’re saying same thing as this story. And little bit southern side of red square, there is statue of Mongolian War horse. They made statue for Mongolian Horse as a respect! Find out about that story as well..
