    A few things I missed in this video:
    1) If you have obtained a large collection of ROM files from the net, unzip them to your PC FIRST, then transfer them over to your SD card. The EZ-Flash Team also has the file system set up so that it cannot locate files that have the "read-only" attribute associated with them, so also check for this.
    2) The saves are saved to the carts FRAM, which means it does not use a save battery like other carts. The battery that is installed is solely for the RTC (Real Time Clock). The battery type is CR1025 and can be found here:
    www.amazon.com/Panasonic-Batteries-CR1025-Lithium-Battery/dp/B002E3QXMU/ref=sr_1_18?keywords=cr1025+battery&qid=1649490697&sr=8-18
    3) If you have trouble saving .GB games, try renaming the extention as .GBC and playing the game this way. Does not work for all games. Thanks to elia_rampage for finding this fix!
    4) If you'd like to use the ZX Spectrum Core, with it loaded, press L + R + START + SELECT to access Pogoshell. From here you can turn on the Virtual Keyboard by going down to "Control". The keyboard functions will vary from game to game, so try as much as possible to play games which make use of the joysticks (DPad) as much as possible.
    5) The Definitive Edition works with the Analogue Pocket, but sometimes the emulators will crash if left idle.
    6) Save States via the Analogue Pocket work for both GBA games as well as all emulated games.
    7) Game hacks may or may not work if flashed to the NOR. If they do not work, they will hang on uploading to the NOR. Take caution and instead run them normally from the SD card (Confirmed by Allemand Instable).

      Just wanted to share incase anyone else having GBC save issues. Rather than shutting off gba or exiting from menu, after saving in game like normal, press L+R, scroll down and select Restart so the save will commit -- go through the game's usual startup intro to the file select screen to make sure it saved properly-- Then power off the GBA completely. Saves have worked as long as I restarted from the menu first before shutting off. Forgot where I read it so shout out to whoever figured it out.

      @@RetroSho Looking to get into a lot of fun stuff with this once I know what I'm doing lol. I wanna make a couple simple homebrew games from scratch (stupid simple things like snake just to get started then make something more interesting). I also want to look at the open source code for the firmware, but I have zero clue how to go about beginning to understand that- I wanna figure it out though and possibly create a custom theme or just generally explore what else can be done. One idea I had was to create a basic typing application- and try and splice together a GBA adapter and a computer keyboard and see if I can get the GBA hardware to recognize keystrokes and reflect them properly. Tons of ideas I want to explore for the GBA, going to take my time though to make sure I understand things one at a time.

      I think the SGB borders might be just outside of the range for both of those devices. I've been thinking about how to respond to this one for a while, but it seems like it might just be the fact that the SGB "borders" were already truncated a bit from it's original size. Is it possible for you to test on a plain old GBA console to see if it's not a software issue?

    • @RetroSho
      @RetroSho  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello!! So, this seems to be an issue with how the EZ-Flash team set up how the the files are located on the card. Try these things:
      1) If you grabbed a ROM collection from online, unzip the files to your PC FIRST, then copy them over to the SD card.
      2) Check files for any special characters. This cart doesn't like some of the accented characters some games may have.
      3) Make sure none of the files have a read only attribute.
      4) Ensure that you have a max of 512 files per folder.
      You may want to format the SD card with a cluster (allocation) size of 32KB or more from the jump if you want to have a fresh start of it.
      This seems to be a common issue amongst all of the newer EZ carts. i wish I caught it in time for the video. 🤔

However, on GB, GBC, and GG roms the display is very small has a black border encircling it rather then fitting to the screen. I'm not wanting to stretch the image, but rather to have it enlarged until it fills the edge of the screen on my Analogue Pocket. GG roms have a option to strech the screen but it caused glitchy images. GB and GBC have no options to enlarge it at all. Is there a way to adjust this?

      @@jdwholman Ahh! Excellent that TTSVC 66's advice worked for ya! They are awesome! 😎
      As for the display size this cannot be changed I'm afraid. This is because the emulator for GB & GBC was designed to be 1:1 to a real Game Boy -- it maintains that aspect ratio due to the target hardware being an original GBA (fits on screen, has the exact same issue with real Game Boy games being played on it). Best you can do is stretch the image displayed on the Pocket itself (take the height uo to 1440 from 1067, move Y Position to 0 from +186). I know you said you didn't want to stretch the image though. 😅

    Hey bro, I ordered the same EZ-FLASH Omega Flashcard recently as well as a brand new AGS-101 GBA SP. I followed your tutorial exactly (minus the emulators for other game consoles, I only needed GBA games) The card updates firmware perfectly when holding 'L', and the menu is perfectly functional. However, when I try to boot up any GBA game it just displays a white screen (for certain games it also makes that annoying crunching noise that occurs when you take out a GBA cart mid-game). I looked at a bunch of websites and forums online for an answer and they all led to the same conclusion of contacting the seller for a replacement cart as it's an apparent hardware issue within certain cards. Now, seeing as this cart is over $100 and thus SHOULD be made with good quality, I figured if anyone had an alternative solution to contacting the seller, I'd be you. So, what's your say? Haha.

    • @RetroSho
      @RetroSho  Před rokem +1

      What's good brother! Haha thanks! And congrats on the AGS-101! That definitely sounds like a similar issue that I've seen and read about, so everything was perfect on your end concerning the installation of the firmware. You could attempt to flash the base firmware only as well, but I'm gonna bet it'll have the same issues, so it is just better to RMA the device for a replacement or get your money back. Alternatively, if you have the means you could also test the cart by seeing if it would work in a plain old AGB-001. Would be interested either way in what you find out!
      Now! As far as an alternative solution, there IS one! Only... for a little bit more. You've heard of the EverDrive carts yeah? This would be the EverDrive GBA -X5- Mini. Overall, this GBA flash cart is much better built than both the EZ Flash Omega as well as the DE. There are a few less functions that the cart has -- the EverDrive GBA doesn't support cheats or save states like the Omega DE. It also supports far less emulated consoles as well (Has only, GB, GBC, NES, GG, and SMS). However, since you mentioned you only wanted the Omega DE for GBA games, that one fact could be over looked. 🤔
      I did a video on the EverDrive around the same time as this one if you want to take a look at it! If you're interested, don't pay over 150 for one, as the cart itself usually sells for 110-120 direct from the maker Krikzz (before tax and shipping). Let me know if this helps!

      @@RetroSho Hello again! Thanks for the really quick reply. Yes, see I actually owned an AGS-001 model prior to buying the EZ-FLASH Omega, but it's old, like SUPER old (basically when it first came out). As we all know that model has non-backlit screen, which looking at it now as opposed to my 4-year-old self, it's noticeably bad lmao. That paired with the depleted battery over the years, as well as general wear from my careless past-self made me decide to get a new one for one of these carts. The AGS-101 took like a month to get here, but the card didn't take long, so I tested it on the AGS-001 in the meantime. I watched someone else's half-assed video rather than yours about how to set it up (your video here was WAY better at explaining it by the way). Testing it on the AGS-001 yielded the same results as the AGS-101, so at the time I thought it just had to do with my AGS-001 being old. But even after updating the EZ-FLASH as shown in your video it doesn't work on either console.
      I've reached out to my seller and am waiting for a reply about getting my money back, luckily, I kept the box and all that. In terms of getting a different cart, I like your suggestion of the Everdrive GBA Mini. I've found your video on that cart and the setup seems relatively the same, obviously there's not a huge deal of emulation on that cart, but again, I only really care about GBA anyway. I've looked at the maker Krikzz's website and it's currently selling for $104 which is pretty much the same I paid for the EZ-FLASH Omega, hopefully if I get my money back, I can use that money to get that cart instead. Thanks so much for your help, bro, and if it isn't too much trouble could you just confirm that the Krikzz website for the Everdrive GBA Mini is the correct one, as well as your video on the Everdrive GBA Mini/X5. Short answer - No. I tried literally everything imaginable, but it never seemed to work, I even sent the card back TWICE and still the same issue persisted on all three cards. So, at that point I just sacked it off and got a refund. I just came to the conclusion that these cards aren’t made like they used to be, and they just simply don’t work anymore, and the company doesn’t really care, which would normally really anger me, but seeing as the location of the EZ-FLASH cart production company is situated in Ukraine according to their website and return address, I don’t think troubleshooting a GBA cart is the top priority on their list to be completely honest.
      But can I just say, this is a STARK contrast to the R4 cards for the DS I have purchased for myself and others over the years which have worked absolutely flawlessly every single time, a couple of which have lasted well over ten years now and have had absolutely no issues whatsoever, now that’s how you make quality R4 cards.
      In terms of your suggestion though, I’ve checked back on the roms on both my PC and SD card, and they’re definitely GBA files, so yeah, it was definitely the card. Thanks for checking in though boss, and thanks for trying to help me out with your suggestion. Not many people in this world would look at a year-old comment and think to do so haha.

    • @RetroSho
      @RetroSho  Před rokem +1

      @@codyman630 Depends on the game and dump method, but it should be possible. It would only be for GBA games. In this case you would need a hardware dumper like Sanni. That save file would then be able to be moved to the EZ Flash. You could also move the save file from the Sanni and “flash” the OG game in the reverse way. Watch a video on the Sanni Dumper to be sure if it would be for you!
      Another way to do it would be to use an Analogue Pocket - you could play the game, capture the save state in Memories, then reload that Memories using the ROM with EZ Flash. You’d then save the game normally so it’s stored as a save file. The reverse is also true - play the game with EZ Flash, save into Memories as a save state, run the OG cart in the Pocket, reload its corresponding Memories, then save the game normally onto the OG cart.

    Can you show how using Pal Park is possible with this?

    • @RetroSho
      @RetroSho  Před 2 lety

      Sure! So given the functionality of the Mode B, you're essentially allowed to treat the flash cart as if it is a "OEM game" -- the flash cart for all intents and purposes a "real" Gen III Pokemon game.
      In the settings menu, set the Mode B setting to "Cart" (in the OEM firmware this will be called "LINK"; make sure you also OK the changes) first, then move over a Gen III Pokemon game to the NORFlash. You can now play the Gen III game to a desired point of your choosing. Make sure you are pressing L + R + START and saving your game data every so often. This will create a back up of the game's data from the FRAM to the SAVER folder for you. Once you're good with your Gen III game, make a final back up, then power off the game and set the physical switch to "B" after this. This will force the flash cart to load the first game in the NORFlash immediately as if it's a real cart (until you toggle the physical switch back to "A").
      From here, you can play your Gen IV game of choice, get access to Pal Park. Then once you are ready, plug the Gen IV game and the EZ Flash (With both Mode B settings still set) into your Nintendo DS, and you'll be able to transfer over your Pokemon as normal. If any issues arise, you can toggle the physical switch back to "A" and load your previous save up to the NORFlash. Before you attempt this, make sure you're practicing saving and loading the saves from memory until you understand how the feature works. Hope this helps! 😎👌🏿

      Does it show that the clock is running on the SD Card page? if so, did you try to reset the cart?
      What type of SD card did you use? And what is the formatting type?
      What I have seen (and unfortunately did not get to mention) is that there have been a few batches of carts that have been defective in various ways. Not your fault at all or the fault of the OEM or custom firmwares that you can load up onto these. I really hope EZ Team does a better QC check on their future cart releases.
