  • Young Rotumans enjoying themselves at my uncle's place in Vatuwaqa on boxing day 2012. Decided to put this up and share it with all the other Rotumans and islanders out there. This event usually happens during christmas to new year. So enjoy the clips..... ma alalum ous atakoa e fau fo'ou te!
    Lyrics:
    Aus noa'ia 2x
    Gagaja ne hanue te'
    Noa'ia e garue maha
    Ma rese tiu a'ana

Just wanted to share the rotuman love to everyone where ever they may be. Spent so many years away from home so I decided to record these videos to keep me rooted where ever I went and I'm glad that they have also been viewed by many around the world too. I know how it feels to be far away from home and I'm sure most of you do too. So sit back enjoy the videos and sing along if you still remember the words. Hanisiof! 😊😊😊

What I have heard and known that Rotumans are people from Samoa navigated from Samoa an settle this island ages ago.,, This song they sing is same as the samoan song,,1.Ua motu le vae o le sega,,( Is a metaphorical compare,,the tiny bird call sega,,when someone take care the bird and dearly love,,,when it fly away from you due to passing away,,it is a great loss to you and whole of the community if such person is an great assets to you and your people).,,,2.Oi talofa Rotuma or (Samoa in Samoan version),,Oh my love to people of Samoa or (Rotuma in Rotuman version) ,,because it a great loss)),,,O le sa fai ma pou i lenei galu-e-ga.,(Whom was became a main or important person of any purposes in the community.,,, or the actual word in the song is "post" the post of the house.(it understood the post of the house carry the heavy of the house as whole)),,compare to someone that carry a great job which benefit the community or community rely on him / her..Maimau le galuega sa pele i le agaga.,,(What a waste of his job or his/her responsibilities he/she carry and dearly love by the community because of his/her passed away),,O le tupe lautele sa fai lea ma faaola. He/She likes a treasures and as a saviour to us.,,If my translation is right may be this song was songs by our ancestors so many years ago if compare to the Rotuman tune of the songs and some words seems the same with Samoan words.,,

Faiakse'ea Waikato - as you can hear the Rotumans sing a "Samoan" lyric in the second verse, but because our languages are quite different and so few of us speak Samoan, the pronunciation has changed. Is the tune the same in the Samoan version? Fa'afetai tele lava
