- Have you heard about Data Marts but you don't understand what they are?
Here is a simplified view that explains it and compares it with other existing data technologies.
Note that this is a simplified view and your data architecture does not/ might not follow the model shown here.

Love the simple & effective analogy that clearly explain the whole ‘dataverse of madness’ terminologies 👍😀
Thank you Bare :)
As always, I love the power of your "ANALOGY" when you are explaining something.
This is something I can use when I present too!
Fantastic!
One of the best breakdowns I've ever seen! Amazing.
Simple, short, meaningful. Thankyou.
Thank you Ruth. Always appreciate your simple & helpful videos. Keep going :)
Straight to the point and very clear , well done !
Great analogies! Thanks, Ruth!
Short and very effective way to make a layman to understand. Kudos 👍
Thanks!
Awesome explanations. Kudos🎉
Nice comparison. Thank you
This is brilliant!!!
Really simple and easy to understand explanation :) Thank you!
Pleasure !
Great explanation Ruth,
Thank you for explaining to common people...
From common to common ;)
You are one of the best BI thing I came upon on youtube
🎉🎉
Very clarify and necessary explanation. Sometimes data infrastructure definitions seems kind of abstract.. Thanks Ruth!!
Yeah, for me too, that is why I try to find analogies that help me understand:)
This is amazing! I'm using this for my next presentation!
Please feel free :)
I can make the image available for download if you want it!
Fantastic explanation, thank you
Thanks!
Great explanation for that topic ever! Thank you!
🥳🥳
That was SUPER helpful. Thanks Ruth
Great to hear Bart!
The Example of Pasta was really Nice 😀
thank you so much easy to understand
Glad to hear!
Interesting analogy 😊
Thanks :)
There are also some concepts related to the data, like Databricks, and DataFactory.
And the service provider uses complex explanations for these terms.
Yes, for this explanation I used the components that Power BI has
Great analogy with the pasta. Love your icons, can share with us the site to get the ions? Saludos cordiales amiga. ..
I got them from google, will share the image in the download Center :)
Nice, also do data mesh!
Will do :)
Thanks, i heard about Immon approach or Kimball approach. In one case the data mart is placed before the data warehouse… quite confusing ?
Inmon dwh architecture, where data marts (used for reporting and analysis) are subset of dwh (dwh is not accessed directly) (dimension modeling is only for data marts not dwh)
Kimball dwh architecture, dwh may be accessed directly with or without data marts. (All data is organised dimensionally)
Hope this helps.
There are many approaches to this, I was showing one example with all the ingredients;)
In the chaos of corporate dwh, Inmon and Kimball you will find data marts both feeding into and fed by dwh. I’ve see both subject and system based Marts, sometimes ODS databases evolve into marts. My preference, if you get a choice (often you don’t) is to have conformed dimensions and subject based analysis in the dwh reporting/presentation layer, largely following Kimball BUS Matrix design, because it’s highly incremental and works well in Agile delivery.

Is a Dinamic Table in Excel a Datamart, for example?
No, a data mart contains a model, more like a power bi or excel model?
1:39 so, datamart could be a SQL view? An SQL Store Procedures? 🤔
Not a view but a mini data model, a subset of the data warehouse. Will talk about datamarts in power bi tomorrow :)
My understanding was that datamart is just a dataset being fully online (also its creation).
The technical definition of a data mart as I understand is a subset of a data warehouse: easier to understand, manage and consume.
@@CurbalEN yes, but the real execution is just "everything as in pbix but online" advantage: features such as b2b sharing; disadvantage: no calculated columns, no field parameters etc
@@CurbalEN I find it cheap to sell an online version of PBI(x) as something new. It is not. And: It is definitly not a datawarehouse, all the pain of admin your databases is still there. It is only the "view" of modelling some of your tables in a relational way. Is it not? So it would be no more than MS Access online.
Yet ;)
@@CurbalEN yes YET; but than MS should not brag about it now. Just be shy.
Dataset?
Yeah… in tomorrow’s video I will talk about those too …

Very well done! You should inspire CDMP writers to offer simplified version.
