  • Hey guys, here is a version of one of Django Reinhardt's latest composition called "Flèche d'or", first recorded in January 1952. We can hear a lot of the influence of the bebop from Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. We have recorded this song on our second album called "Why not?" available on bandcamp romainvuillemi...
Extract from the Romain Vuillemin Quartet concert at the Sunset Jazz Club in Paris on September 27 2019.
    Romain Vuillemin : guitar
    Guillaume Singer : violin
    Edouard Pennes : doublebass
    Stephan Nguyen : guitar

Really enjoy the "drive".; like a train ( chemin de fer) rolling down the tracks. Very powerful.

Jeff Hildreth thanks Jeff !! Exactly, this style needs a driving rythm, and that « pompe » can take a lot of time to master. We ve all been doing this many years, and playing with gypsies also help with the rythm.. i ve been professional rythm guy until about 2011 before starting this quartet as a leader.. the deive is the most important for the general efficiency of the band.. the chorus will take a lifetime to get better, but they couldn t do anything without a strong rythm section.. notice the dry rythm guitar and the short beats of the doublebass, it s very important to make the rythm strong and light at the same time

@@RomainVuillemin Speaking of dry rhythm, is that a basic reason for the archtop ( generally) not used in "Gypsy" Jazz. ? I have been listening to Gypsy Jazz since 1990, but never attempted to play it. My observation is that there are very few rhythm players and many lead/solo players. I watch and listen to the rhythm players most such as Rosenburg (spelling ? ) Enjoy all your videos very much. Not much like it here in the US. Arch-tops, Swing and Gypsy Jazz are not so common.

@@jeffhildreth9244 well yes gypsy jazz could maybe use a couple more good rythm guy !! Most of the guys playing it are guitar players, and most of them solo players

It's fun to play alone, but it's more fun to play with the 4tet ;)
