Today I will be doing a long term review on my BMW F800GS Adventure. This is the first of my review videos which in time will include equipment and places to stay in places I have traveled. These videos will be separate from my normal video schedule and will be released over the weekend.
I have currently had 3 BMW bikes over the last 10 years when I started riding which included the G650GS (first bike, photo on my website www.eirerider.com), F700GS and now the F800GSA.
In this video I will be going through the bike, discussing its features and what I like as well as dislike about this bike. I'm sure we all have these no matter what bike we ride.
I have owned this bike for 3 years so this should give you a good idea on this machine.
I won't give away too much so you will just have to watch the video. (Thanks for watching)

Ah. Finally a good Review! Soon i change my Kawasaki KLE 500 to F800 GS. Im a bit nervous about my height.. :/ I'm 170cm tall. What you think? :)
hello there, thank you for your feedback. great to hear that you are happy with the review. I am currently 1.9m and i just manage. offroad is a bit tricky. you might 1.7m but may have tall legs. You can also look at a lowered seat which may help.

@@R3cs3 take a look online and see what lowered seats are available as thí smay help. Is it the adventure you are buying or the F800GS?

@@R3cs3 OK so the regular GS is slightly lower stock wise but not too much. A lowered seat would bring it down. There are also suspension lowering kits. It's an awesome bike have a great time with it.
I ve just heard today my sister s Son up in NZ just gave me he s BMWf800 GSA And i m super excited to go get it now i m siting up 2 am in the morning going through your videos lol .Great review btw

My 2017 F700GS is at 55000km now and I've been nothing but perfectly satisfied with it.

Finally i was able to see all those details that other youtubers missed, I have a question though, I heard that at high speeds the front suspension vibrates (70-80 MPH) what can you tell me about that? Keep up the good work!
Thanks Mario. Yes unfortunately there is a low vibration. You feel it in the seat and the foot pegs. It's not a heavy vibration. Oddly enough I just thought bikes had this vibration. My old G650GS had a similar issue. It's not something that others me but it's there.

Awesome. I used to live in Cape Town before moving to Ireland in 2015. The tiger is a lovely machine. Funny how we both were in South Africa and now in different countries but living abroad! 😀

Great review thank you. One question please, I have a 2015 800GS and it really is a pain to get into neutral . I have changed the oil, tried dropping it into N from second , it seem more reliable with a little engine rev as I try to go from 1st to N, but overall it is simply a SOB to get into Neutral, so I wondering if this is a common issue others have encountered or just a problem with my bike?
Thanks for the comment. I am having a similar issue. Happens every now and then. Do you use your bike all the time? Something I haven't actually taken into bmw to get checked.
Nice review! I too am considering a second hand F800gsa (as well as a few other bikes) as an upgrade to my current G650gs. Since you have owwned both how do they compare. Power and comfort of the twin compared to the single? I find I am just not that excited about the 650 these days but wonder if the 800 would be enough of a change. Thanks!
Good choice! ive owned the G650GS, F700GS and now the F800GSA. You will notice a massive difference on the power and refinement. I Ill be doing a F800GSA why i think this bike is one of the best used bikes on the market! Having done a review on the F850GSA i was really surprised at how my bike is still vary comparable to the new bikes. It was ahead of its time in my opinion. Its a tall bike the GSA so ensure you can manage it.
Thanks for the reply. I come from dirtbikes so i am comfortable with taller bikes, but the weight will be more of a concern. I am looking at using it more for long distance touring but would still like the option for off tarmac adventure and camping@@EireRider.motorcycle.adventure
@@ramant5576 well the F800GSA offers great offroad performance and electronic aids. Seat height is 890mm so it's tippy toes for some. Pleasure, always reply to my viewers. I don't like leaving comments un responded

Last week I bought a f800gs 2011 as my first bike! 24k on the clock. I still need to get me license tho so I cant enjoy her yet 😂 Hope I will like it. Cant wait!

I’m looking at buying one and I’m torn between this and the bigger brother BMW. Majority of my riding will be long touring and I’m just curious how it would handle at speeds around 120 km/h for longer distances. Trying to decide whether I would need the more horsepower.
Hi there, if your looking for a long touring bike and you want comfort but done mind a bigger bike the R1250gs is a good choice. The F800GSA can easily do it but the comfort level on the bigger bike is better. I don't like big bikes but this one is a good fit for me and it can do the distance.

hi, i just got myself the same bike 2014, 70k km on the odo. ive been riding quite a bucketload of bikes including the r1200gsa previously. I just want to get yourr view on the vibration being felt on the bike when it reaches 4.5k -5k rpm especially. at this rpm in 6th im abt 140kmh where the vibrations are still tolerable. once you cross that range, i find the bike extremely annoying to ride to a point that its numbing my hands on long straights. ive checked all the bolts making sure nothing is loose , on the engine mounting etc. while i understand that its a parallel twin, i didnt thought it will be that bad trying to cruise at 160kmh all day. at this point, im thinking of increasing the front 16T sprocket to 17T so i can cruise faster at lower rpms. anything ard the 4k rpm as u said, everything is good.
Hmmm... I have to say I haven't come across much vibration especially to the extent of it effecting your hands. I had vibration on my old G650GS but I just thought that was normal. I tend to stick to the speed limit in the areas I ride in so can't say I've gone up to those speeds. that mid range torque is fantastic. The F800GSA accelerates well in this torque band. thanks for the comment.

Just to comeback to you on the vibrations... I noticed these in the seat while I have been riding with light vibrations through the handlebars. Is this what you were referring too? Let me know.

I wonder if its worth buying 2013+ f800gs for around 7500€? There are a lot of interesting options in that price range. For around 7k i can buy 2020 vstrom, 2023 morini xcape, or even more interesting, 2014 f700gs for 5500€. What do you think?

i am not sure about this but i thought I read in the manual you are not allowed to switch esa modes while riding? You have to stand still otherwise the system can get damaged.
The F800GS and F800GSA manuals appear to say differently. I'll investigate this further and come back to you. On the F800GS manual it states you can't select it while in motion but says nothing about the system being damaged.
It is confirmed in my F800GSA manual that you can change the ride modes while riding. Odd that the F800GS doesn't. Thanks for the comment.

@@beatsmarttie5777 no idea what the difference is there. Why would one say change as you go and one to change at standstill. There the same bike technically. 🤔🙃

BMW state in the manual to use level 2 initially, then once desired heat is achieved, switch to level 1.

That is correct but sometimes it can be a little hot and I just leave them on 1.
Whats the screen like for wind protection on these
Fairly decent. I have a extender to make things a little more comfortable.

@@roycehildreth9786 i believe it's Touratech. Works well. I only use it on the motorway as it blocks some of the area of view when filming
What were the main reasons for you to switch from the F700GS to the F800GSA?
I sold the F700GS as I had no space for it. The F800GSA is to me the flagship. 👌🏻 It's also best suited to places I plan to see. Long range tank.
How well do this bike performs against the f650 gs?
Be a major upgrade. The F650GS is either a single or twin cylinder. There was a face-lift in 2013 so you will benefit from new buttons, better electronics. Still a good bike don't get me wrong but there would be some major differences.

@@Elbribon1 it's great offroad. 21" front wheel and presets for your riding modes.
I had a 2016 model in Catalano Grey. Plus points: looks great, very slim considering the bulk, great fuel range, riding position in traffic was excellent and a very tractable engine on loose ground. Minus points: too tall for me - have a look at a used model, most will have scuffs in the same place from being dropped, I couldn’t get rid of the terrible wind buffeting from the fixed screen at higher speeds and a rapid deflation of the front tube at speed was a bottom clenching moment! As someone who has owned multiple bikes in both this range and the newer 750/850 series, the GSA versions have a more planted and stable front end (particularly the. 850GSA) and seem to have a better suspension feel. I think the 850GSA is a worthy replacement that removes most of the niggles - LED lights all round, tubeless rims, lower seat height, nice bright TFT and a hot exhaust won’t burn your leg if you push the bike around :)
@@MH-xd2nd thanks.. Pretty much everything I said in the 850gsa video. The bike us tall and your absolutely right about the marks on tgebike from dropping as said in this video.
Has it been expensive to maintain?
Not really. I've limited use with it. I have a car for work. Last three years serviced with BMW and brake fluid change.

You don't do any off road riding or you would know why spoke wheels are best for off road vs cast wheels. To make the F800GS better off road the suspension needs upgraded. The front forks bottom out easily with a stock setup.
Yeah I've heard that too. There isn't much off roading here in Ireland unfortunately. I did go down a offroad track in the video but it's pretty light. I had a F700GS and G650GS which I went offroad in South Africa with. I didn't have any problems with the cast wheels. I am aware that spoked wheels are better. For me it's more if I get a puncture it's a pain to take them off and replace or repair the tube the. Put them back on. If its cast wheels you can repair the puncture straight away.

@@stevanantic3019 well I just manage. Out bodies are all made differently so you might have longer legs than me. I would suggest you try one out first. If your interested in a bike make a call and try it out. That's the onky way to be sure. I can't say its not for you.
@@stevanantic3019 I am same height and yes you wont be able to plant feet on floor. Touratech make a great lowering kit which sorted that for me.
