I'm a catechumen in the church who has been lost in new age spirituality for years. I think and hope the church recognizes both the need for the esoteric and the exoteric depending what is being considered. The Theotokos for example. I respect and recognize the exoteric understanding of the mother of God but I have esoteric nuances to to that understanding that increases her presence in my mind.

Hi Seraphim, I have a question for you:
You recommend the book "Through New Eyes" by James B. Jordan for the study of the Typology and Symbolism in the bible. Given that he is a protestant, does he also touch on all the Marian typology which we orthodox affirm in the Old Testament or does he leave it out?
    A reply would be appreciated.

At about 36:30 the idea emerges that in the end synthesis will somehow be the benefit of a mixed and diverse bag of orthodox expressions. But this is not a benefit. As Kierkegaard supposedly said, as quoted by Fr. Rochelle, in his book, A Staff to the Pilgrim, p.7 "Purity of heart is to will one thing." This axiom of orthodox faith is fleshed out for us in their second discussion when reference is made to the coincidences of Ian McGilquist help clarify even for orthodox how the conceptual flaws of a "synthetic" faith ultimately undermines a single purpose of reality. The singular multiplicity of a universal history is salvation for all through a Logos centered deliverance from and final destruction of evil; not a perpetuation of cyclical fragmentation towards a simulated negation which is at the coreless perimeter of synthetic irrationality.

  • @restoredandrecovered7380

The issue with Jordan and Leithart is that they are more or less (maybe less) holding on to Reformed convictions. There’s plenty of room in Protestantism for what they are trying to do. Lutheranism is very broad. It’s Calvinism that has less room. At least, that was my experience. I left Calvinism and it was the best thing I’ve done. I found a wonderful home in the Lutheran world. A home that is broader and accommodates the teachings of the church father’s wonderfully.

I'd be interested to hear Jonathan's view on the arts and the use of the imagination in an Orthodox context. I thought that Orthodoxy's negativity towards the use of the imagination was specifically in relation to prayer, but recently I've read some things that suggest that the use of the imagination is always bad in all circumstances and should be completely avoided.

Hey Seraphim. Many longed for this.
You mentioned, the theology institute, and their interest in eve? As, Jonathan mentioned, from thence the connection is obvious. This, brings a question to me, was this borne out of the desire to mine the earth, as west went further and further into the trenches the connection to heaven slowly withered, till Russian's moved across Europe. Did they help, bring old world of orthodoxt let's say back to the land, is this seed bearing fruit now? As, more and more people understand the pattered language.
And I am looking forward, to what you do with the Bible, have you any desire to cover Samson's story, in detail?
I could see mutual affection in this. Further discussions would be beneficial to both of you, and us. Thanks for your work, and attention.
