The saddest part about Vhagar killing Meleys was that they were Baelon and Alyssa's dragons, the parents of Viserys and Daemon. They spent decades being friends and flying together along with Caraxes and Aemon (Jaehaerys eldest son and Rhaenys father). Not to mention Vhagar was Laena's dragon and she ended up killing her mom Rhaenys. All very sad.
I blame Aemond for that, Vhagar is an innocent girl being ridden by an idiot

What really makes all this so sad, it the war started because of the Hightowers. The Targaryen and their dragons will all end because they let non-Targaryens manipulate them.

@@obdiane this is why the Targaryens had a history of marrying each other! The power they had was too alluring to other houses, and they were afraid of being destroyed by outsiders. And they were right! The Hightower marriage caused the death of dragons and a near total destruction of their house.
I think the bigger issue is that House Targaryen never established a true precedence for the succession.
The Conqueror ruled with his sister-wives, often leaving the day-to-day governance to them.
His eldest son Aenys inherited, yet his younger son Maegor claimed the crown ahead of his nephews and nieces - and named his eldest nephew and niece's daughter as heir, when he failed to father children.
When Maegor died, by Westerosi custom, it should have been the girl named as Maegor's heir that inherited, but instead her uncle was crowned. Was that because girls cannot inherited, or because her father was never fully formally crowned before his uncle killed him, meaning his younger brother should inherit rightfully? Or was it just pragmatic politics, putting a strong, charismatic young man on the throne after the chaos of Maegor's reign, rather than a mere child? Or should it even have been the first born child, Rhaena, who inherited, regardless of gender, since Aegon ruled with his sister-wives?
Jaehaerys was crowned, and his first-born was a daughter, whom his wife Queen Alysanne reported considered their heir - Jaehaerys said that since she would marry her younger brother Aemon, they would rule together, so it wouldn't matter. Daenerys died, Aemon became heir and sired only a daughter, Rhaenys, whom Queen Alysanne considered their queen-to-be, yet Jaehaerys named his second son Baelon as his heir and Hand. And yet, when Baelon died before Jaehaerys, the king did not say "his son Viserys will be king after me, because only men may inherit"; instead he called a Great Council, another new way to determine an heir. Was this to establish a precedence, or merely to pick between two candidates? It is not stated that the lords were asked to vote on the future succession, so it's up to interpretation.
In House of The Dragon, Viserys names an heir, against Westerosi customs, just as Jaehaerys named Baelon, and as Jaehaerys was crowned ahead of his older brother's daughter Aerea.
Viserys had the perfect opportunity to establish the precedence that the king or queen names the heir in the royal line - or leaves the decision to a Council, if he or she so choses. Or he could seek to establish a new custom of succession, were the eldest inherits regardless of gender; but he horribly failed to attempt that, against a society where many of his lords would not be in power if such a custom applied to them.
But Viserys failed to have a vision for the future, ironically despite being a Dreamer. Jaehaerys, for all that he is celebrated, failed to fully commit to settle the succession once and for all.
House Targaryen failed itself, and the threat could just as easily have come from within.
And, Vhagar was originally her daughter's dragon. So, Vhagar killed both her and her daughter... I think Rhaenys was mentally tired. She felt guilty about not killing the king at his coronation, her husband has bastards running around, and she believed that both of her children were dead, so her heart was broken... The look her dragon gave her was so sad they both were ready to die in battle.😮💨

I've read the book and I was unable to watch the episode immediately after it was posted. So when I saw the title of the episode, I knew what was about to happen and my eyes started to swell with tears even before I got to press play. Rhaenys was my favorite character and Eve Best portrayed her brilliantly. ❤️🔥

I am not too sure if Aegon is dead or not because it looked like Aemond was about to bring the final killing blow with his sword. Why would he take out his sword if he already knew his brother is dead from his attack? So Aegon might just be injured really badly, but still alive, meaning that Criston might have saved his life. Either way, he and his dragon Sunfyre are out since they look too injured or dead to fight.

Helena's forgiveness was for Alicent getting her freak on with Christan Cole when he was supposed to be guarding the Queen and the children. She knows Alicent feels guilty for allowing her carnal desires to override her common sense.
Poor Aegon is the sort of young man who craves instant gratification. He is most unsuited to be king; and yet, his grandfather and mother and brother literally pushed him kicking and screaming towards his coronation.

I love that you knew what was happening the whole time. Black or green Rhaenys wasnt being dumb, she knew she had one shot - to prevent this from coming to the rest of her family, ending the war. Meleys was their best hope of it at that time

I don't know that Cole and Aemond knew specifically which dragon would come into the trap they laid at Rook's Rest, but I believe they hoped for Rhaenyra on Syrax, or Daemon on Caraxes, Jacaerys (Rhaenyra's heir) on Vermax, or Rhaenys on Meleys. Any way, they could deprive the Blacks of two major assets (human and dragon).
If you think Cole's a fool in regards to battle, then you haven't been paying attention.
Some people are blinded by the team factions - Cole took down multiple castles, tripled the size of his army, lured the Blacks into a trap and subsequently killed one of their best dragons and experienced rider. He may be a terrible guy but Cole is proving to be a very capable commander and warrior. Even the way he used Aegon's unexpected arrival to boost the spirits of his army, great move.
Look we're both on the same page about Aegon, but the bond between him and his dragon Sunfyre is beautiful. I mean that nose nudge was too cute to resist. And did you notice that his dragon answers his commands in English? Dragons usually require Valyrian commands. This MF was too lazy to learn it, so his dragon actually learned the common tongue instead 😂
Correct, his Dragon has more intelligence than him. Losing Sunfyre is a true loss to the realm 😭😭

I mean, if Rhaenyra didn't send anyone to defend the house that swore fealty to her, no one will be on her side. She had to send someone, but she couldn't go herself and can't go with rhaenys because who would defend Dragonstone if someone showed up? Sending Rhaenys was smart because her dragon is the fastest dragon alive, and Rhaenys could have escaped easily if she need it to,hate to say it but rheanys was stupid in her decision, she could of escaped 2 times

Id be lying if I said I've never cried over some cgi dragons, but the dragons aren't innocent in this. They consent to serving their riders. Dragons aren't lap dogs.. they are viscious beasts and dragons gonna dragon lol but yeah, it's still hard to watch this family of humans and this family of dragons fight each other. I'm here for it though 😂

If it had been Meleys and Caraxas they'd have won. The mere fact that Meleys was able to down Vhager was incredible. We just needed Caraxas. Daemon needs to leave the fxcking Overfiend world he's in cause they badly need him.

Sunfyre is so sweet and cute with his BFF Aegon, it's heartbreaking. It's awful that the discord between the two branches of House Targaryen is now pitting their greatest symbols and assets against each other.

We see in this very episode why Rhaenyra worked so hard to exhaust the option of peace; dragon v. dragon warfare is especially destructive to everyone - soldiers, non-combatants, etc. And no one should appreciate that more than the Targaryens, but the younger ones are practically chomping at the bit for it...
God I hate the greens. If Rhaenys had burned them when she had the chance, there would have been no war, all the dragons that were the greens would be Rhaenyra's. Everyone who mattered would be alive. Except Haelena Spare her she must be protected at all cost.

When you say everybody tries to help Aegon it's not true, everybody ignores him. That's what he said to Alicent just before joining the battle and that's what angers him. Alicent put the last nail in his coffin by telling him to do nothing, it wasn't a attempt to help him but to regain control to manipulate him, wich she said she would do when she last talked to Otto.
Aegon became a fool because everybody around him treated him like a fool, and so the viewers too.
Me personally i'm sad that he's out, he's a horrible human being but he was the best character of this season so far in my opinion.

Your english was great, but I would say Aegon has had the opportunity to learn he just gets bored when the council is actually talking about stuff. He just doesn’t care about politics which unfortunately is the most important part of being a king. He doesn’t put forth the effort to want to learn and so they don’t bother trying with him
@@BigBroLilSis True but he was willing to learn and rule at the beginning, episode 1 of the season he had good and bad ideas but the council shut him down regardless.
And now you're right, he's bored and won't learn but I see it as a consequence of the council's choice to ignore him and take all the decisions. And now everytime he takes a decision it's outside the council, the ratcatchers, Arryk suicide mission and now going to this battle, I think it's very telling. All these ideas were good ideas but poorly executed due to a lack of trust that could have been avoided.
Aegon was not gonna be the best king but he could have done a good job if he was considered.
