I dont think McDonal applies International Strategy as it needs to adapt highly to local taste preference and religious issues, similarly KFC. Thus it should be Multi-domestic. Yet, I doubt if Unilever and Nestle are the best examples of Trans- and Multi-strategies respectively as they tend to highly respond to global integration/economies of scale while the domestic adaptation level is almost similar (ingredient for Nestle and skin whitening elements for Unilever). In my opinion, these both fall into category of transnational players
Does McDonald's really have an international strategy? Don't they adjust many of their products to the local market? For example, the Indian market offers an increased share of vegetarian products, while on the Israeli market kosher products predominate in the stores.
Yes...McDonald employs a transnational strategy in terms of local responsiveness and global integration. They recognized that the overseas market required an extremely high degree of local responsiveness and since their business has grown too big they also need to manage business spread across different regions effectively and efficiently which would not be achieved through any of the other strategies. The value chain needs to be constructed taking into consideration local culture, legal-political and economic environments in mind.
Just remember. Don’t rush the MCQs, take your time with them and study each response thoroughly. Two PeCAN paragraphs in 9 markers, in the 25 markers make sure you evaluate throughout to maximise AO4! Got any relevant theories and business examples? Put them in! Make sure you make your point and analyse them like skimming stones Good luck! It’s going to be a good run :D
Jim - thanks for making Bartlett & Ghoshal simple to understand! Much better than our textbook!
No problem - glad you found the video useful!

I was thinking the same, I'd say Mcdonald's have high pressure for local responsiveness.
