Perfect stealth van for all the reasons mentioned. Clean, plain looking, current model tradesman's van with tinted windows and steel partition. Nobody would look twice at this thing in most parking lots after dark.
where is his youtube channel? what is the MPG on that thing? and is it common for vans to be left overnight in construction zones? lastly, wouldn't it actually be trespassing if he got caught in a construction zone? anyways, answers would be great. i'm gonna do exactly what he is doing, so i am genuinely asking, not "bashing."
Because that's the excuse for being slapped around. Otherwise you're just someone saving a Decent Motorcycles worth of Rent Money a Year in LA. Can't have that.
My stealth van will say Acme Mechanical or Security Services inc or Canine Security services or something on the side and will have a number on the back such as 037 to make it really look like a service vehicle. And maybe even a cheap ladder fixed to the side or top. Stealth is stealth.
Seen the elbow length Polo two sizes too big and the dad jeans, knew exactly what it was going to look like on the inside....right down to the grandma sheet set.
I actually thought that was Chris Farley in the beginning for a second. I'll be down by the river soon so I'm trying to watch as many of these videos as possible and figure out what might work for me. I like the partition and locking cabinet idea.
Extremely clean, very smart, that's a really good tip. If I were a cop I would look right past your van seeing as it obviously does not belong to someone like a robber or someone you would not want in your neighborhood. Excellent video, thanks for sharing.
He hit the exact points I had in mind, regarding having it look exactly like a trade van. Just goes to show you, an adult with common sense can make it work out just fine.
Put metal security screens on the side/back windows and put a large hasp padlock across side and rear doors. Even with the locks removed, no one is going to get in. And you are waiting with mace for the fool who tries. Vans are obviously a magnet for thieves.
nextari Mace, haha, fuck mace.........I have a bigass, fixed-blade knife.....it's going to be a hamburger-fest if some fool breaks-in while I am in the vehicle.
I think its totally ok to live in a van in Latvia as long as its parked in public parking lots, that are not a property of a mall or apartment house. i would love to live few years in a van travelling Europe.
Pretty much the case in Sweden too. BUT, if the vehicle is registered as a car class II = camper of any size you are not allowed to park in some areas. But foreign campers or stealth vans could park anywere, no regulation regarding sleeping in a vehicle. I want to buy an rv as well to live and travel in, also the baltic countries.
Last week i bought a used van, 2007 release opel vivaro. I have been dreaming of my own van for years but could not manage to save up enough money to buy one. I am taking a 2 week vacation and going on a trip accross Lithuania and Poland while its not too cold yet, september should be nice up here.
I dig this van man, very nice :). I wish I had enough too do this but ATM I just have my bike but maybe one day too look towards something like this :)
a rack on top maybe 2-3 inches above the van ...of solid something to keep the sun from directly touching the top of the van..would help a lot with cooling. An industrial vice mounted on the rear bumper along with a phony business sign on the side perhaps.... also.. a "for sale sign" with a phony number would be good
It is illegal to be homeless in this country:/ I backpacked for three years. It’s hard to find places to sleep. I’ve been ticketed, told that I couldn’t hang out on the sidewalk, arrested, and told to move several times. Almost all land is owned by someone. It’s sick. I’ll be creating a stealth van soon. Thanks for the inspiration
SUNY Stoney Brook had bunch of students living out of mini-vans back in the 90s. It became an issue with the neighbors and even made it to local news. I wonder what happened since then....
Not all but most people living in vans when they post, it just seems as if they have surrendered from living a normal life and though they claim to me happy their voice does not reflect it. Living cheaply to save money seems to be the goal, but does always being on guard for police, and other harassment really worth this vagabond lifestyle. I suffer much less stress and don't have to look and smell as if I just lost a wrestling match with a water buffalo. And I live on a very small retirement pension because I paid off everything before I retired. And still have discretionary income to piss away as I please.
I was a senior RV service Tech before retiring. I went through desert and cold weather training and am a combat vet. I'm a ham radio operator and once held a masters license as an electrician, and an AS degree in engineering . I know how to live and exist well in most any situation and I can cook. Camping to me is very relaxing and those who go with me need for nothing as far as comforts go because if it breaks I can fix it. I could do it full time but to do that you need the cooperation of the laws of society. And you will even run amuck of them if you own the land you stay on. It's to bad we cant have all legitimate RV campgrounds set aside a few spaces for the nomad traveler for say $2 a night as a good will gesture. It's just a shame people can't live the life they choose as long as they are not polluting or interfering in the life of others about them. Very sad.
Great comment Henry. I too noticed what seemed to be thinly veiled despair in his voice. I don't think it's possible to escape "the system" and yet *remain living in it*. That will simply just produce another form of anxiety.
this kind of freedom is an american BIRTHRIGHT!--a tradesman--electrician-carpenter should be able to park at construction sites --it's good security so that pallets of plywood & studs & tools don't walk away in the night!--great life !
Nice van. But...um... should probably fade out the section where you can see his license plate. Let's help the guy stay stealth. Lol. And you coulda left out the "raper" comment. Come on guys!!
Great video. I do the same thing, which you can see on my channel. I should get a bike though. But just dont have the room right now. I am thinking about a small fold able electric scooter though. And since I have solar power it would be free to roam!
Look into a Brompton bicycle. They fold up very small, and have good cargo options. You can also get a powered hub that will either pedal assist or motor along without pedaling.
Awesome! IMHO I really think there is a market for a low cost well designed camper van like your VW Camper only updated FWD, A/C... I for sure would purchase one!
Yeah, nobody makes anything like the bus anymore. New campers are overpriced and poorly made. I'll keep driving my ol' bus... A/C would be nice, though....

haha, raper wagon. lol. no, looks like a normal van brother. how much u get it for? mileage?
