Hi :) I have been enjoying your videos thank you so much. I am Germaine from Sunny Singapore, allow me to give you one simple Eggs with Tomatoes Chinese Recipe - Beat 5 eggs together with salt, heat oil in pan (prob 2 tbsp), pour the whole lot onto your pan and fry till eggs are golden brown (this point is important). Use your spatula to break your eggs into pcs. Using 5 palm size tomatoes, remove skin, discard and chop tomatoes up. Once your eggs are kind off brown and broken up, pour the chopped up tomatoes over the eggs, add 2 tbsp of light soya sauce, give a stir, lower your flame, cover pan and allow everything to simmer for a good 20mins - DONE :) You can eat this on its own or pour over boiled noodles / pasta / rice and you have an easy yummy meal for 2.. ENJOY

Just started the video so I'm not sure what you do with them but pickled green tomatoes are amazing! We do ours with garlic and jalapenos and it's a great way to use them at the end of the season.
    • a small handful of fresh dill, chopped
    • 8 garlic cloves, sliced
    • 2-4 jalapenos (depending on desired heat)
    • finely chopped onion
    • 2 bay leaves
    • about 20 black peppercorns
    • 2 pounds green tomatoes
    • 2 3/4 cups of water
    . 1 1/4 cup white vinegar
    • 1/4 cup kosher salt
    • 1 tablespoon sugar
    • 2 quart size mason jars, sterilized
These are technically "quickles" but we have canned them and they keep great!

Bo is so handsome! Thanks for the big smile and giggle. Give him a hug from me.♥️
    My thoughts about tomatoes:
    1) Use bigger starter plants next year instead of seed.
    2) Add a small wood stove in high tunnel for the early season and cold nights.
    3) When you add house addition, include a small room for starting plants with access to heat and lots of sunshine.
    4) Were your high tunnel tomates on the south side for max sun? If not, move them there next year. Alternatively, add roll-up sides so the tomatoes have more access to fresh air and direct sun during the day.
    5) Once the fruit has set, trim back the leaves so the fruit has more access to sun.
I am positive you guys know what you are doing. Just some ideas.
Thanks again for your awesome videos!

Sun Gold Hybrid (57 days), Stupice (52), Early Girl hybrid (57), Bush Early Girl (54), 42 Day Tomato (42), Red Robin (55) and Tumbler Hybrid (45). And in full sun, the Stupice will grow outdoors. You should try green pickled tomatoes!! I have the best recipe. For 10 kilos of tomatoes you use 5 liters water , 500 gram black salt , black peppercorns, bay leafs, garlic, some small chillies and extra virgin olive oil. You clean the mason jars and put the clean tomatoes cut in half inside . You put inside the bay leafs , garlic, peppercorns, small chilies. In a big pot you boil the water and salt until it dissolves , after you wait till it get bubbling and you pour the hot water in the mason jars. You top it with a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil and you hermetically close the jars. They can live up to 2 years. Hope you guys try it😊😊

Every homesteader I watch, from all across the US has spoken of later than normal summer temps and earlier frosts. That solar minimum effect is no joke! And this is just year one. Everyone better start paying attention because it's going to drastically affect the way we grow our food and how much food is available.

Today in Wisconsin I also picked tomatoes to ripen inside, and mushroom finds included elm oysters and Grifola Frondosa (hen of the woods). Love this time of year, but there is always so much to do! Thanks for the garlic planting video. I'm going to try planting some in my garden the fall. You are good inspiration. Watching this was a good break, now I'm off to preserve my pepper bounty...

You all should definitely try canning some green tomato relish! I am in zone 6 where tomatoes generally thrive, but the caterpillars eating all of our ripe tomatoes this season meant I needed to pick them all when they were green so we at least got something, and I am SO glad, because I used them to make green tomato relish (found the recipe on Allrecipes), and it is our new favorite!

Feeding the bees with mason jars can sometimes cause the syrup to be pumped out when the air in the jar expands, This can dampen the hive. Maybe try ziplock bag method. It works great. Just don't overfill the bag. A couple 2 inch slits on the top will provide access to the syrup.

Have you ever dehydrated your vegatables? That would save on the jars and lids, and possibly the storage. Eric is so handy I am surprised that he hasn't thought of adding on a pantry off of the kitchen.

Aawww That was so cute adore your dog's Ariel and Eric. Didn't expect that sooo cute. The nasturtiums look beautiful. Your Chicken's look so happy and healthy. Love Capsicum's green, red, yellow put on a flame, blacken outer skin, put in cling wrap or plastic bag, wait, peel black skin off yummy. Capsicum in Australia = Peppers in Alaska I think. I'm so sad for you both that your tomatoes didn't ripen. But making that salsa was a brilliant idea, that's what I Adore about you both you waste nothing. Since your last video, you are both looking Amazing, 10 years younger, so your teenager's. This video like every one I have watched is just so good for my/our soul's, But I know how hard you both work. We Appreciate this wonderful Channel. Hug's from Australia xx

  • @jeanetteschulthe1andOnly

Put them in black and white newspaper and put them in a box in a cool place. You just have to unwrap only a few to find a ripe/orange one. They will ripen off the vine.

  • @naomidunbar719
    @naomidunbar719 Před 3 lety

use cardboard boxes for the tomato. put a flat layer into the bottom fo the box, then newspaper, then another flat layer for about 4-5 layers. Add an apple in and they will ripen faster. I live in Saskatchewan and that's how I got my end of the season tomatoes to ripen. Go through the box every couple of days to pick out the ripe ones. The apple off gasses a chemical that promotes ripening in tomatoes. Our weather and frost dates are similar.

That Nasturtium just gives me great joy every time I see it. I have meant to mention it many times. I did not know you could make tea out of them! I have three very small versions of yours I grow them for pest control and happiness and we have had two frosts but some of them are still ok. Now I will dry some. I have stuffed them with cream cheese as a special treat, I know you can eat them. Why I never thought to think of other things. But I am always learning new thing from you both so this is great. The jar storage looks great. You will figure out another space to. You have the amazing knack. It is a wonderful feeling to get the garlic bedded down for winter. We are about two weeks away here from putting it in. And I am starving to now lol. Meal fit for a King!

Hey, just a tip I've heard from hardcore mushroom scavengers.
Use a wicker basket to carry the mushrooms you've already collected around with you. As you walk, the jostling of the basket will help distribute and scatter the spores for more mushrooms next season!
