- Today on Booze On The Rocks we show you how to make the Long Island Iced Tea. However, this cocktail originated in the 1920's during prohibition and was called the Old Man Bishop, created by Charles "Old Man" Bishop in Long Island, Kingsport, Tennessee. His son refined it in the 1940s, making it closer to the well-known Long Island Iced Tea recipe that we know today. This recipe was featured in Betty Crocker's cookbook in 1961. However, ten years later, Bob "Rosebud" Butt claims to have created it for a cocktail competition for Triple Sec at the Oak Beach Inn on Long Island. This is an equal parts cocktail based on The Last Word and the Final Ward. It is well balanced and so easy to drink. Try it out, and let me know what you think.

The history of this was fantastic! Such a classic that you did beautifully. I still won't order it from any bartender I care about, but I'll gladly make one at home. Thank you David!
Your welcome Susan, I would make you one.
I love how they explain each step clearly and demonstrate the proper techniques for mixing the perfect cocktail.
Thank you very much.
When I lived in Seattle, this was my go-to drink, (Harry's). They would limit you to 2 drinks. However, if you came near the shift change, you could get a third or fourth. lol Still enjoy this one. This as well will be featured in Hurrican Week. Cheers and thanks.
Your welcome PJ I agree if you did it at the right time you could sneak it past.
LOLOL don’t fight the lemon juicer Dave!
The juicer does it tome every time.
Only change I would make is to use crushed ice instead of blocks. But I agree really balanced beatiful drink.
That is a great idea. I will have to test that out.
This is my all time favourite!!! The only issue is with the bar tenders who sometimes spoil this beautie's flavour.
Thank you for the video🥰!
My pleasure 😊 I'm glad you like it.
Ha, I’d like to see you kick those back ALL DAY long, haha! Fine drink David.
Thank you, I would fall apart pretty quick I'm sure.
Nice classic David this is the ultimate cocktail with a a lot of booze 🍹 cheers
Thank you Keino, It can definitely give quite a kick :)
TGIF Cocktail!! My favorite drink for all occasion. How about a comparison between all types of Iced Teas cocktails out there. Cheers!!
Maharshi, That is a good idea.
I love, love a good Long Island Ice Tea. Have a great weekend.
Thank you! You too!
Love me a long tall Long Island!
It is definitely one of my favorites.
Looks really good David. Fully noted and will make it on a hot day late afternoon. Have to wait as very cold in northern England today. Nick from York
Hi Nick, It is a good drink, a hot day would be nice about now. Its trying to snow here right now.
Personally I really like this drink. It is fun and it tastes better than it sounds looking at the ingredients.
Good video David and thank you for the nice information regarding the history of the cocktail. Cheers!
Thank you Petar, I really do like this one when its made the right way :)
Muy bueno conocer la historia de cada coctel
Y muy bueno Long Island tea
Gracias, me alegra que te gusten.
Glad to catch some videos Dave, had a purple ace and sicilian neck tie at the omega friday, couple good drinks.
Those both sound really good.
Awesome 😎
Thank you very much :)
My favorite drink. If mixed right is good and to many will mess you up!
I agree with that for sure a few will mess you up.
Thanks for making it super easy to concoct these classic drinks, I always feel like using a better brand is more about putting a better ingredient (alcohol, mixers) into my system for a better or smoother taste and reaction, hence, avoiding feeling like crap next day??
Your welcome, Better ingredients make everything better.
I enjoy me a ice tea driven through Long Island 😋.
That is a great to enjoy it.
Just bought a bottle of El Dorado 12. Gonna have it with Mexican coke.
That will be tasty.
DAVID!!! Great video!!! This cocktail def brings back memories, or lack there of!!! The only thing I would do different is use at least 60 mil of each spirit, use a huge glass and take my chances!!! CHEERS!!!!
Tim, that is a big pour, i know how you feel though :)
David!! Oh boy I made my own version of a Long Island quite a while ago, used the same ingredients except I went 2 oz each, boy that was a drink that could lay a hardcore smack down on the body, never made one since then!!
Not surprised in . that is a smack down all rihght. right on to the couch not to move for hours.
As for me, I don't use simple syrup because Nigerians likes it very strong, so the sweetness of the triple sec and coke is ok
I can see why you would like that :)
Old man bishop sounded like a cool dude :D cheers dave!
That he does!!
The "one of everything" special
Of course. We how could we not?
Nice history on this drink David. Was the second Long Island mentioned in the Triple Sec contest that of NY state? I made L.I. Teas with Vodka, Rum, Gin, Triple Sec, sour mix and a splash of diet coke (darker than regular coke) and lemon garnish. We added tequila to make it a Texas Tea. Thanks man.
Hi Matt, that is a good question, unfortunately I cannot find an answer for that, but I do like the Texas Tea.
It's a great drink, but many overlook the importance of actually 100% de agave tequila! Usually it is some cheap ass agavemoonshine and thus ruins the drink.
And especially with the LIIT goes the saying; the drink is just as good as its worst ingredient (usually tequila :D)
... "agavemoonshine". Thank you for making my day.
And indeed and sadly, many people dislike tequila or think it is crap, due to experiencing really bad quality products.
It is truly underappreciated spirit in my opinion. Cheers!
@ Cocktail / Drinkkikanava I totally agree the agavemoonshine will totally ruin this drink. agavemoonshine love this word :)
@ The Tribal Bar Guy Good Tequila is excellent. the agavemoonshine not so much :)
So true....
I usually split the citrus base (half lemon and half lime juice) and use a Demerara syrup.
Can you share the whiskey + maple syrup recipe please? I would give it a try tonight.
Here you go David, let me know what you think.
In a 16 oz glass with ice:
.5 oz/15 ml Lemon Juice
.5 oz/15 ml Lime Juice
.5 oz/15 ml Rum
.5 oz/15 ml Gin
.5 oz/15 ml Tequila
.5 oz/15 ml Vodka
.5 oz/15 ml Whiskey
.5 oz/15 ml Maple Syrup
Stir then add 4 oz/120 ml Cola
When customers order a Long Island from me I always tell them,”there’s NO limit, but there IS a record!”
Does that work? lol...
@@boozeontherocks usually it keeps people from drinking too many of them and saves the staff problems
@@TheHuscarl101 That's a good plan.
@@boozeontherocks actually my recipe is .75 kettel 1vodka, .75 avion silver tequila, .75 Bombay sapphire gin, .75 plantation rum, .75 Cointreau, .5 lime juice, .5 lemon juice, 3 dashes angostura bitters, 1 oz simple syrup, shake and pour, add coke for color. The record is 7. He got helped out of the place. Lol
@@TheHuscarl101 That is impressive.
I thought you were going to use bottom shelf cheap spirits. That stuff is top shelf in my area.
I usually go middle shelf. But it depends on where you are and whats available. I prefer a good Tequila though. To many bad experiences on cheap tequila :)
@@boozeontherocks used to drink liit all the time until I discovered the Jamaican rum punch and the painkiller and the margarita and the zombie and the bramble and the rum keg LOL. two years ago. But yes you are using really good tequila. Olmeca Altos is a premium tequila at a reasonable price.
Is there any Michelada recipes?
I have not done any yet, but I can do one soon.
@@boozeontherocks thank you..
you're crazy with the 3/4 oz pours! I do 1/2 oz :P ...more palatable that way I find!
Very true. I use the shake now because it smooths it out better :)
Is lime juice okay too ?
Definitely, use what you have or what you like the best.
This stuff is nightmare fuel for me but that’s because of my irresponsible youth. Haha!
Been there and done that. But the shake makes it work even better,
LOLOL
dayum yall use 3/4 oz, we use 1/2 oz for spirits
I find it works well for this one.
