I think this may be the best series MeatEater has done in a long time. Great to not only see different ways people hunt deer in different parts of the country, but more importantly it shows how most of the time when you go out, you don't actually kill a deer and often don't even see a deer. Great job Mark!
I have always felt the same way about outfitted hunts, but as I get older I find my mind changing.
Great series Mark and the Meateater crew! That’s what I love about most of these shows not every episode are you killing a giant or shooting anything at all.
Spoiler alert?
All due respect most people watch the video before reading comments or making a comment themselves…..
You are stellar. My hat is off to you. Its not often we see a real deer hunter on a video or tv. I will certainly follow your adventures and they are awsome and real.
Mark I guess that's why it's called hunting, please keep up these awesome videos brother, really enjoying them
Well done series. It was cool seeing different styles of whitetail hunting in the different states and terrains. It’s fun to watch them get a deer but what I like most about Meat Eaters is they show the whole reality. No, your not always gonna get what you go out and hunt for, but that’s okay. You learn and you carry that knowledge with you on your next hunt. Can’t wait for the new season 🤘🏻
Can someone tell me, what in the world does Mark carry in that big ol' Mystery Ranch backpack? Every episode he looks like he's carrying a Volkswagen on his back. 😆
I see ol Tom let Mark come out during the cream of the crop week of late January! Not to say you cant kill a nice buck then, but this would be way more interesting if you sprinkled this into the 'one week in November' series
I’m sure that would be 4x as more expensive a buck haha
Good afternoon from Syracuse NY everyone thank you for sharing your adventures in hunting different places and animals
The Man-Cave of all Man-Caves, that house and barn
Badass, eh.
I've been hearing about Buffalo County for decades now, this guy is great.
That’s why it’s called hunting and not killing! Nicely delivered Mark.
Very well done, seeing the diversity and range of techniques. Your approach and presentation shows much of the true meaning of being a hunter.
This series is fire and a completely necessary part of the MeatEater channel. Thanks Mark and the MeatEater team!
Loved this whole series! Hopefully more in the future.
Love to see Buffalo County and the Driftless! Its a wonderful place to be
Really enjoyed the series Mark! I’ve been watching since your hunts for Sixshooter back in the day. Excited to see what the future holds for your hunting career.
This was an awesome series! I’m not entirely sure why I like it so much and I generally like most of the stuff that meat eater produces, but this was really great.
I felt the pain on the bucks in the corn and not being able to get a shot. Couple years ago I had the biggest buck I've seen in my lifetime(at least 14 scorable points I counted easily, and would fit right in among that wall of mounts in this video) get pushed by another hunter walking in, this buck came running across the field and stopped broadside 25 yards in front of my stand and STOPPED directly in front of the only piece of impenetrable brush I hadn't cleared out, I made plenty of shooting lanes and I didn't wanna get rid of all the cover so I left it.
The buck stopped in front of that brush and didn't move for minutes, and I spent that entire time at full draw, and every 15 seconds that passed I remember thinking "damn, wish I worked out more" because even with let-off, holding a bow back for long periods of time is exhausting, especially while trying to remain as still as possible. I kept waiting for him to take 2 steps further and that's all I would've needed, but he never did. After 2 or 3 minutes of him standing there, he finally winded me and took off. It was such a bitter sweet moment. Biggest buck I've ever seen in person, while on a hunt, so it was great to see one. But to be that close and not pull it off, it sucked. Then came 2nd guessing myself, wondering if I should've tried to shoot through the brush and maybe I would've got lucky. I'm thankful I didn't, because at the worst, I'd wound the animal and hate myself for it, at best I'd probably just lose an arrow. Wasn't worth it. It's an experience I'll never forget.
That's why tracking is the best approach. You immerse yourself in nature and typically hike miles. The hard work, woodsman skills needed and the fact that you don't need leases, blinds, stands and scent products makes it the most difficult and purest form of hunting.
This serias are the best!!! Grat work thanks
I love mark but seeing him frustrated is funny as hell lol
this was actually my favorite hunt from Mark
Awesome series! Love it and don't give up! which I know you guys won't 👍💪
Really enjoyed this series! Thankful it was just about products but about the experience and the diversity of deer hunting in our great country. Thankful I live in a country where we have the freedom to do this.
I'm from France and have never hunted in my life because here people don't hunt like you do in the USA, they know nothing about nature and wildlife... I wish I was born in the USA..
Another great series by the meateater crew. Thank you for sharing this journey Mark. I’m a better hunter for having watched it
Loved his Monarch Valley series films.
Wonderful series!!!
I’ve enjoyed the series, great job.
Great video. Something really different than the regular hunting videos
Great season. Thanks for sharing
Love it. Our farm is in Buffalo County.
Tom's place looks wonderful. Chock full of hunting memorabilia and paraphernalia, what more could a man want?
gotta get you up in the big woods of Upstate NY
I think as a new hunter it could be helpful for me to go on this type of hunt I’m sure I could learn a lot even if I didn’t get a deer
This is the best place to hunt 🦌
Damn! After 2 episodes I was rooting for him but still no luck. Still a great hunting experience sir.
Been hunting Buffalo County Wisconsin for 27 years and I have shot some big bodied deer up there . Here's a tip shoot em up top so u don't gotta drag em up to the fields lol
Also good duck huntingnand walleye fishingnon that river after you tag out 😉
I hope your doing this again this yr. Nothing like it and it's just enjoyable
Right scammers
Great Series!
I can certainly appreciate outfitters like this and the trickle down effect that Mark mentioned. However, if I were to pay thousands of dollars to an outfitter to walk out to a blind and shoot a big buck I would not feel that I had personally earned that deer. I have nothing against private property hunting but unless you are taking an active part in the managing of that property and building that deer herd I don’t know that I’d feel like anything more than a tourist at a theme park.
Here’s one Mark I have been considering hunting up there. And you made the comment about never hunting with a outfitter I drive truck I don’t have days to sit and wait. Even with cameras. It’s hard when your only home for a day or two. So don’t judge people.
I love living in Wisconsin, buffalo county and surrounding counties are some of the most beautiful country, it has some of the best opportunities for multiple high trophy game species it's the best state in the country. Please don't move here. Aha!
Hey Mark, you kinda look like Ryan Callaghan's little brother in your snow gear.
Started managing in a small spot of southwest corner of Lafayette county.
And like wild fire. All land owners took this managing by storm.
Pretty much of all southwest Wisconsin is managment. All because of one little spot.
It’s like Billy Campbell says on the Dr. Duck videos, “It’s all about the journey.”
Great series…. Hoping for a season 2!!!
Keep up the good work!!
I feel it. Last fall, 2nd day of bow season, I’m in a very small pop-up blind. I have a buck come in to around 15 yards just quietly browsing. But, he’s over my left shoulder enough so I can’t turn without making too much noise. Damn frustrating.
Damn, that's brutal.
I dont understand the mentality on not going on an outfitter hunt. If you deer manage on your property, or hunt on your buddies deer managed property, you're doing the same thing they do, but on a smaller piece of real-estate and have lesser chance. Me, I'm looking for the experience, I'm looking for the story, I'm looking to bond with my son, and pack the freezer with natural meat. Just my opinion.
Buffalo county more three and a half year old booners entered in the books then total entries from whole states
I think it was the stache that kept those bucks from coming in. 🧔
Howdy 🤠 partner thanks for sharing
What a damn season
My back door ... nice video
I'm from Wabasha county in MN we chased a hug 10 plus pointer across the bridge going into Wabasha across the bridge hit the fence hard got up took off towards the slough .
There is some giant bucks I've seen through the years over there in this county. When they get to hunt the north side of the road they get some big inch antlers just saying
I don’t mind outfitted hunts as long as they are free range deer and not fenced in.
One of my most respected hunters - Mark - finds deer despite the “Jenga” on a private reserve.
If the topic was private land management from the first scene, I would be very supportive.
I have no quarl with outfitted hunts for nonresidents or people with pockets deep enough to buy anything they want. But for me going out discovering what the deer are up to, what deer are around, and executing a plan and hoping it all comes together. So much of the hunt gets lost when you show up and a guide tells you where to sit......
Amen
Awesome show! I went on an outfitter hunt in Texas and it’s not for me! Felt like I was hunting in a zoo. My friend on the other hand loved it. To each their own! Glad I didn’t like it. Saves me a ton of money 😅
That mustache really wears mark’s face
Did you use the solitude jacket or the sanctuary jacket? Trying to decide what one to buy for northern Michigan.
You know Mark.... you get used to eating potato soup all winter... you learn to switch it up with bean soup.... and you will be alright... spring will come... cream of asparagus is a good change up....
My buddy manages a high fence ranch. Super nice place, with a ton of deer. I helped him with some culling on a weekend, and for 2 days in a row I saw zero deer. Even outfitted hunts can be hit an miss.
In what state ?
Oklahoma.
@@casstle178 hell yeah
What bow case is being used?
Steve trained all these guys on how to narrate their hunts... 😂
Steve you better have a badass episode coming up.
I enjoyed seeing a twin to my bow on MeatEater. Not gonna lie
No Holyfields stepped out lol
Driftless Wisconsin!!!
Driftless region of Wisconsin is a deer hunter's Heaven on earth. My in-laws live in Lafyette County, S/E of Buffalo County, same terrain and same deer. Gotta love it.
I live about a hour from Buffalo county I wish I could afford some land there!
If I wanted tp watch a guy hunt for 5 days with no deer, I would set up a camera on myself
Just got to say nice mustache. 👍🏽
I love your mustache
I don’t believe
there are 3 buffalo counties in the U.S. and I thought it was the one I live in
Y'all guys do some good hunts like adventure witch they are I haven't been on a good adventure in a min I'm trying to find out we're a herd at my mind been wondering
I see no shame in outfitted hunts. Especially if someone is new to hunting and has no mentor. Getting started is the hardest part and who better to learn from than a professional.
Hooooooooooo boy. Hunted out, husk of what it was, Buffalo Co. At least that’s what all the old timers say. That deer was a good shooter for that area now, again, based on what the people I know in the area have been seeing. LOTS of hunting pressure + CWD.
I hunt about 10 miles from that place. There are still lots of deer and lots of big bucks left on even the average farm.
@@adamburge5988 that’s really good to hear!
Correct there are no big bucks here anymore. We're like a lesser Michigan now. No need to come hunt wisconsin anymore people.
@@OriginaldippeR1 🤣🤣🤣.
Some people have it and we don't. It sucks for us..
Ps. It's 2022 why are we waiting a year to see this? Thank you #THP for showing the future
Them northern white tails have a shorter face then our southern ones lol
Deer county is great
But I’ve got a tough whitetail hunt for you…
NW Montana, no tree stand - spot and stock, thick, steep, and in G bear county.
Lots of predator pressure and some seriously switched on deer.
Would love to see how you guys tackle the hunt
4:05 Just a quick glimpse of a near-world-record rack
🍻
Oh no! Here we go again. 😉
I hunted with him in 2006. I live about 1.5hrs from Buffalo Cty, was nice scenery but ultimately I spent a crap ton of money and didnt get a shot at anything over 3.5. Would not/have not done it again. Mainly due to having zero interest in a guided hunt
What’s the brand of hat and jacket that Mark is wearing?
First lite
@@nevadapoole5066 thank you!
What does he mean when he says “outfitted hunt”?
That lip furniture
There needs to be a disclaimer at the beginning when no game is successfully taken.
Conversa muito
Mark and Clay are the only ones worth watching on Meateater. Send the rest down the road with Ole Joe the fisherman.
Almost all of Buffalo County is private land so an outfitted hunt or getting permission from a landowner is really the only option. Beautiful area but can be difficult to get any access at all
It didn’t used to be that way. This area has been ruined by the outfitters. Essentially these outfitters are profiting off of there neighbors. I have lots of fond memories of hunting there as a kid
this is as exciting as watching paint dry
Can’t wait for the day the mustache goes away
Dude, this guy loves watching deer and not shooting em
Cool episode but whenever you go hunt with anyone else on this show it’s the same thing as an outfitter.
Nothing wrong hunting that land, if it had 10ft fences that's a different story
Where is Steven Rinella??
His speech cadence is exactly like Steve Rinella.
That Mustache does not look like it belongs on your face
Mustache>goatee
Never heard of Buffalo County. Where is this “legendary” place?
West Central Wisconsin
