Nice video, I wasn't on this tour I was on the one on the 3rd of August, Newcastle to Chester, but that still went down the Stockport to Stalybridge branch.
Those MTU engines are far too quiet and smoke-free. I loved hearing the turbo whistles and V12 thrum of the Valentas... as well as the plumes of smoke being belched out.
Well. There we are. At last. Not only a 43 on show but Jack Wingate who knows how to use his camera. Great creative shots, great trains and full marks from me. Thanks!
Wasn’t 43159 at the back of 43102 named The Journey Shrinker (now at Shildon Locomotion National Railway Museum) when 43102 broke the world speed record for a diesel locomotive 1/11/1987 which it still holds? Brilliant video mate. New sub.
😮saw you on Reddish South station in the morning and caught the 2 specials on their return at Stockport around 21:00 that evening. ...I wish I'd known I could just do the hop from Stockport. I was also surprised to find there was a scheduled train on that route from Stalybridge to Stockport before return to Stalybridge as for years I'm sure it was one way only. So one Saturday soon I'm going to get to Stalybridge for the full return service.
Ayyy, you should had said Hi! I messaged the people running the tour and asked if i could ride one-way one or two stops. However it didn't come cheap, it was £5 from Stockport to Reddish South, and £10 to Stalybridge. Anyway I wish you good luck getting a return trip as long as Northern doesn't cancel it last minute.
@@RailwaySecrets LOL I should have thought of that! If you manage to find my own film about rail-sail to the Isle of Man, you will see I was thwarted by Northern failing to run the connecting Lancaster-Heysham service. czcams.com/video/3VuioP74CFI/video.html
A regular train would be great as I live in Stalybridge and go to Stockport frequently and it takes ages on 2 buses (348 to Ashton and 330 from Ashton to Stockport) and as a bonus could visit my daughter as she lives in Denton.
The obvious answer to this lines problem is the redirection of services from Man Vic to Stockport and even beyond stopping at Denton and Reddish South. The track is there and available to be used. The current once a week service takes people to where they don't wont to go
Unfortunately, the junction at the Stockport end doesn't have enough capacity for regular trains from Stockport towards Guide Bridge and Stalybridge. If a flying junction had been built as part of the 2000ish WCML upgrade, what you suggest might be possible. But with 5 "fast" southbound trains per hour from Piccadilly to Stockport, plus numerous other trains, you couldn't reliably schedule a regular passenger service for the conflicting move across the junction. Charter, ECS and Goods trains are less sensitive to on-time performance so they can still happen.
@@peeky44 Agree this junction configuration is a challenge. Still believe one train per hour would be feasible. A small park and ride facility at Denton would also allow options for the bumper to bumper A57 users.
There used to be frequent service, but it went into decline when the Newcastle to Liverpool service was switched from Manchester Victoria to Piccadilly.
HST! When I see HST, I click (my favourite train). Great video, I thought you had a bucket load of subscribers, but no! Somehow you only have 200! Hopefully your channel grows! :) (And yes I did sub :))
Interesting to see on Google Earth that the original island platform at Reddish South actually had a much longer previous length... and it's still in situ (beyond where the power car stopped behind that fence). It's at least another 2 or 3 Mark 3 HST carriages' worth and looks in a solid-ish state, albeit almost completely overgrown and likely very dangerous without a decent repair. Denton's current island platform, on the other end, looks like it would need more work to lengthen once again. There is also some paved space beyond the somewhat arbitrary platform fence as with Reddish South... but the space beyond that is otherwise likely full of buddleia broken rubble or completely empty up until where the two platform lines converge to a standard dual line width on to Audenshaw. Would therefore be a bit of a job to get the latter upgraded if Bee Network are aiming to enable them to take, say, four-car DMUs in the future.
Interesting video thanks. A couple of thoughts (please don't see them as criticisms - I can see that you're early in your CZcams career): 1. Nicely edited - sound and video work well together. 2. It felt like something a bit more scripted or a bit more research in advance might have helped - but it felt natural. Too much prep/scripting can make things feel artificial. As others have said, your natural, genuine reaction to some things was great to see. 3. Sometimes you spoke very fast - I've done a lot of public speaking over the years and I well remember in the early days it was really useful to make a conscious effort to slow down slightly. 4. If you don't know something at the time of filming, it's OK. Voiceovers and/or on screen captions for clarification are fine to add during editing. 5. Maybe think about what your 'niche' is. There are loads of rail-related channels on CZcams. If you can find a style of presentation that suits you and is a little bit different it will distinguish you from other channels. I can recognise a Jago Hazzard, Geoff Marshall or Nick Badley video by style alone and that's a large part of why I keep going back to them. 6. Perhaps think about what your intended audience will know. I understood what the Bee Network is and what a Parliamentary Line is but I'm sure many people on CZcams won't. A sentence or two giving them some context might be useful. Overall, I liked your content and I've certainly not seen a class 43 on the Denton line on any other channel (I watch quite a few regularly). That's all great. I've subscribed as a result of this video and look forward to enjoying more content as you develop.
Thanks! Not a bad thing to have some criticism, it shows whats working and isn't. This was one of a few Un-scripted videos I've done. Most videos I film are part/semi-scripted so theres room to make the videos feel as natural as possible. But if you check out the A-Z of Yorkshire Playlist, you see what i mean. Also glad you enjoyed the video.
@@RailwaySecrets - nice one - I'll be sure to check out your other videos. It was certainly my intention to be positive about what I saw and give some thoughts on small next steps, to to be negative. Keep up the great work.
You should! Defo ride them, other than charter services there’s a few ran by GWR down in Cornwall at the moment but not for too much longer. But ScotRail still have HSTs on the Inter7City routes in Scotland.
That was the Standard Wagon works at Reddish, it closed down in the 1980's. The Heywood depot was still operational until the early 1990's. Great video.
1Z76 charter service to Edinburgh 07.41 (24/08/24), note only charter services stop at this station and the once weekly Stalybridge shuttle. This route is normally freight only, check "Diggle Junction" as most locos that pass are routed via Reddish South. Reddish South and Denton station gardens are looked after by the local rail community group.

The pride of Britain, one of the greatest trains ever built, running on a lowly shuttle. I see hope in this line's future.
It wasn’t a shuttle, it was a Crewe-Edinburgh charter
All other countries invested in HS electrifying, Britain invested in Diesel, real pride 💰💰💰
Really lovely to see the Hst still being used best train ever!! thanks for the vid
Glad you enjoyed it, and the HSTs will never be forgotten!

Too right! The Best, even the 91s which you could say are the electric versions are amazing too.

Texhnically an HST isn't a class43, just the power cars are. The units were originally class 253.
I loved the sponteneity of you being taken by surprise first by the charter train popping through Denton, then by the rain! Nice film, thanks.
