  • Even though on the surface, these red hot jobs reports and relatively low unemployment look good to the fed and our government there's a lot happening beneath the surface that they could care less to look into. As long as these headline figures come out looking OK they'll just keep on saying the economy is great.

In Oct '23 our entire staff was let go from a production studio. By year's end, still no resume response, I'm wrapping pots to make extra money during the holidays. The lady across from me says her husband doesn't like her working, but things with her husband's construction company have been dead. She said they put in 34 estimates, not one phone call. 4 months later and 100's of applications later, I'm down to my last dollars before my rent and all my bills push me on to the street into a car that I won't afford the insurance for. I got hired at another digital studio, two weeks later with $100 in my account I get my first paycheck right at the time the eclipse happened. Still hanging on, but I'll tell you the job market is an empty blizzard right now. For every lead, there's 100 people firing off resumes within an hour. It feels like throwing darts at the wall. Saving as much as I can. I don't take this one for granted, and pray it lasts. Best of luck out there.

She has a strong solid work history, great references, immaculate background record, etc. So she eventually said screw it and gave up looking for about 6 months. I have not got an offer since then. Outside of tech I have sales and business development experience for oil and gas and electrification, but nobody really calls for interview. A friend of mine got a follow email to a job posting he answered where the employer wanted him to fill up some survey where they were asking about SSI benefits. The company had the nerve to ask for his social security number? That’s illegal and he didn’t respond. 4 days later he got an email saying they were not moving forward with his candidacy. They didn’t get the form back. Had zero to do with his experience or any need they claim to have.
They’re also asking for people’s ages, sexual orientation and other illegal questions. Ridiculous.

Lowe's careers has a chat bot named Luci, if you respond yes to 3 basic questions the store MUST interview you. So for each position there are usually over 25 people interviewed which takes weeks, and sometimes they decide to put the position "on hold," and no one gets hired (full-time), you can barely get a part-time job there. Then the chat bot sends you a survey that asks, "how likely are you to shop at Lowe's after having the interview?" Makes me think its a marketing scheme to drive business, or to make people think their neighbors must be spending lots of money at Lowe's or they wouldn't be constantly hiring.

When you are laid off or something happens where you have to go on unemployment It only lasts a certain amount of time another words, cash/ credit... Once you deplete your entitlement.. you're dropped from unemployment statistics.. that doesn't mean you got a job That's just means you're not receiving/ eligible for unemployment benefits any longer.. it is a smoke and mirrors illusion... So many people have lost their jobs and gone through (depleted) their unemployment benefits and now have been dropped; B UT they haven't gotten jobs! It's deceiving!!!! I went through this exact same crap 08-10. I applied to everything I can think of because I was over qualified. Its was so depressing. This all started when I got laid off when ATT acquired Ohio SBC phone company. Thank god I topped out on unemployment and I didn't have to pay for daycare. So it really was a wash. It was so hard to get a job till about 2010. Flash forward to 2024 I am blessed to work for a small business that does value us. I have been with them for almost 8 years but there is always the "What if?"

Skilled trades are very much in demand right now in Miami. It's middle level white collar workers that are unemployable. People like real estate agents, managers, supervisors, etc. aren't viable. Sitting on your ass while getting paid isn't going to cut it.
In Miami, a plumbers helper is being offered 25K bonus to complete an apprenticeship. Working people are doing great, sitting on your butt in dress clothes isn't.
I've lived in Miami for 71 years, unlike Mike. If Mike decides to work for a lliving, he can do so today. Stocks set more new highs this week, huge new cruise ships leave here daily, hotels are jammed, rental cars are scarce. This isn't typical for Miami in the summer, but it's what is happening right now. The high cost of insurance here is due to our GOP leaders, who do nothing. People like Sen Rick Scott,, Gov Ron DeSantis, Jim Gimenez, Marco Rubio, etc. are the ones to blame. Mike voted for all these people, and now he's reduced to
posting on YT. Mike, YOU are to blame for your financial problems. Look at your baby smooth hands, you've never swung a pick, installed a sink, nailed a shingle, or wired a 3 way switch. Too bad, I suggest you and other unskilled workers learn a skill.

The only explanation I can offer for people NOT getting the "good" jobs they're applying for is because at least 80% of the time that advertised job was ALREADY spoken for (via internal appointment or employee referral) BEFORE that job was even posted. Lastly, if it's a company that does any kind of business with government agencies, they are REQUIRED to publicly post jobs so that "everyday citizens" can apply. They never in a million years would voluntarily hire domestic labor for more if they can exploit people in cheaper COL areas for less. There is no more juice left in that squeeze considering they are essentially using slave labor at this point. They now HAVE to apply that squeeze domestically.
