How to Fix an Unlevel Above Ground Pool

- Some of the support post on our Coleman 22 ft above ground pool started to sink. So today I am going to figure out how to fix and unlevel above ground pool before it collapses. I used a floor jack and a contraption I made to raise the sinking post back up and relevel the pool.

This guy has a very tremendously developed common sense . Thank you for sharing, you're awesome.
I don't know what to say about that... thank you? I guess it's not that common. 😂
Facts
Totally worked! Slow and steady. This will get me through the season and next season I'll redo the leveling, lands ape, and never touch it again thanks for the tip! I went from zero to hero in my family
I built the tool. Worked great. However, when I jacked the pool up, the weight of the water caused tears and tiny holes to happen at the bottom seam. Our pool is now ruined. Tip: drain pool half way! The weight of the water causes extreme stress on the apron seam.
Exactly my worry and you just confirmed it so I am going to chance it for this summer and try to level better next spring.
I would say a full drain is smarter. Not worth the risk. Unless you are on metered water and a half a pool of water costs you more than the cost of a new replacement liner...
I let the majority of mine out, but thank you all, I knew that I could find the solution!
I dont think this actually levels the pool...just stretches the liner to make it look level. You have to add material below the pool to make it level.
We had very full pool that is 3 yrs old and did it. No tears No anything except a level pool! We went very slow and careful. How old was your pool? Man ours worked like a charm! My husband built the wood thing. My son is a mechanic so he had the large Jack. Used precut stones my neighbor was throwing away from an in ground pool they are building. Worked amazing!!! My pool is a 18’ Coleman with portholes (which I sealed up with jbWeld). Can’t believe how well this worked. We all are just so grateful.
I have a 26ft. Had to take it down and level the ground. Then had a couple legs slide off the stones. Drained about 1/3 of the water, jacked up the pool and fixed each one. Take the time do this if you need it, it works and it will help your pool last!
This extension piece. Just saved my pool. Thank you sir and your ingenuity
Best video....built this device today and it worked like a charm. Thank you all the way from Las Cruces NM, appreciate you sharing your great idea.
Damn, this guy makes this look so easy. Genius!
I built one just like it and it worked awesome.I had to level 7 post and it work really good . Thanks
Thank you so much for this we had a terrible spot in our yard where pool sunk we did the exact same thing and it worked fabulous ....
What a clever man. Thanks for spreading some wisdom
Dude that contraption rocks. I had a foot getting ready to slide off the edge of one of my bricks and didn't want to drain the pool. I use your idea and it worked like a charm. Thanks a million for posting this vid.
Best video ever you need to patent this and sell it 😂 pool leveling kit 👍
I used this method today and it helped TREMENDOUSLY! Thank you for the idea. I had 4 inches of sag and after about 3 hours I got it within an inch.
That’s awesome. I’m glad it helped!
@michaelnelson9006
I have the same problem with my pool. I was thinking of doing the same thing you did. I wasn't sure it would work, but after watching you I am convinced I can do it.
Fantastic rig you put together... May years ago, i used a farm jack and a 2x4; (on a 18x52 intex) and it worked out well; but i had to upgrade to a Coleman 22x52; and i have 6 poles about an inch off. I will try this version of yours. thanks for the video ideas. happy swimming!
Very slick
Very clean
Very smart
Good work!
Dude! Awesome contraption you put together there!
Impressive job. Nicely done.
Dude! I made one of those tools from your video and it worked flawlessly! I ended up putting 1x6x8 pcs of treated wood under mine, holds up and thin enough if I need a little more I can add one. Thanks so much for this.
Total totally totally impressed very smart I have the same problem thanks for sharing
great video. I'm doing that with my pool :) thank you!
JUST what I needed! I have a Coleman pool where 3 or 4 legs have missed or fell off the pavers. I will do this today as I open my pool for the year.
How’d it go? Did you get your pool open? We’re just now getting around to opening ours again this year.
I'm 57 seconds into this video for the first time, and I know exactly what he's about to do, because us country folks have been doing this type of thing for generations.
Yep ... us city folk just aren’t smart enough figure that kinda stuff out ...
@@stevebaldick5581 No offense intended, friend.
Amen neighbor.
Genius!!! I will have to get one for next year!!! 🤙👌
Awesome job!
An absolutely brilliant idea sir, very helpfull indeed, steve from the uk.
My heart would be pounding the whole time through this!!!
This
This😮
I did this and fixed my pool THANKS!✌🏽
Just what I had to do to mine and now I have to do some more we're only done one po so far but now it's thinking more in the sand so hopefully this will help thanks so much the job
I did the same thing. Worked very well
great minds must think alike
Fantastic tool ,thankyou so much sir,i built mine ,same as yours, worked,an absolute treate, again ,thankyou so much,,steve from the uk.
I think this saved our pool! Thanks!
I hope it was helpful!!
Thanks for sharing. We are having the same problem and were looking for a solution.
I’m a pretty creative person. I’d rather use or repurpose what I already have rather than buy something new. With that being said, I don’t think I would’ve ever come up with something like this! Kudos and thanks for sharing!
From one creative person to another.. wanted to get your opinion on this method. I haven’t done it yet but have the contraption built. I’ve read concerns regarding the seam. If while slowly jacking the pole, someone else was wedging foam or a pool noodle between the seam and the ground, do you think that would help support/possibly prevent some of the stress on the seam?
@@cld0410 i’ve never had any issues with the seam of the lining in any of my above ground pools. I would be concerned that that would make the pool liner rest in a way that it wasn’t built to and possibly putting additional stress on it. You can try it, but that just seems like a lot of work because you’re gonna have to get a pretty large gap to be able to wear anything. Also something to consider is the foam is going to get weatherworn pretty quickly and probably won’t last more than two summers maybe. If one side is in the sun more than the other, the foam will probably deteriorate at a different rate.
Best method I've seen
Clever method! Thanks.
Brilliant idea very helpfull indeed sir,
Thankyou,steve from the uk
Nice water hole to cool off in. Smart solution.
Great job..... wow!
Excellent!
GENIUS! ❤️
Do you mind if I quote you on that? 🤪
This is the first year we have a large pool. It all seemed level when we filled but after sitting for a week we have slight sagging/bowing of 2 posts. This is an awesome fix for a small (major) issue without having to drain and redo... What a nightmare that would be.
Great vid!
Pretty ingenious way to solve the problem!
Brilliant thanks
Good thinking...thank you.
Thanks for the video this worked for my 26ft round colman pool! Take ur time!
Awesome! Glad it worked for you!
I was wondering if you drained your 26ft pool and if so, how much did you drain it? I need to level my pool but due to the size( 16 x 32) I know I should drain some of the water just don't know how much.
Good job sir!
OMG! We have had about 5 pools like this over the last 6 years. No matter what we do we can't seem to keep it level and having the same issue as you. We just got a new one this weekend, leveled the ground with leveling sand, packed it all in, made sure it was level all the way across with a leveler and all was even when the water started going in. Water filled up fast and halfway through the damn poles were sinking. Looked like a rollercoaster track! So now going to get the stone like you did for each leg. I think that will help. We have tried similar to your technique in the past, but the board you made to help lift it with the jack from the top seems very helpful. I knew someone had to have been going through what we are. Thank you for sharing, this will be helpful if it starts to sink again after we try and reset this thing and put the stone under the legs.
I hope you guys can get all the legs leveled this go round! Have fun, that's what the pool is for anyway!
Great video buddy.. very useful🙏🏾💯💯
I knew how it would end up because of the comments, but I still cringed and my hand went up to my mouth with the suspense when you jacked up the pool :). Good job!
Very cool. I was comteplating doing something like this with a bottle jacl should the need arise. You proved its fisable. Thanks
Nice...👌 I need to do the same thing 🙃.. thanks for the idea 💡
This is genius I did that,go mine but not that way and this would've been perfect, thx 😂
I just got my pool up a few days ago. I'm not off by much, and I put treated 1ft 2x6 under each leg. Probably should have been block instead. I hope I don't have to end up doing this with mine, but after my last intex pool, I want to be prepared. This is similar to what I had in mind. I like your lift design though, so I will definitely save this video
Brilliant
Thanks for sharing
I’m going to be attempting this today
Awesome! If I can do it, anyone can!!
Thank you, great video, we put a small amount of water about 1/3 in the pool to let it start to settle, we checked the level of the pool, it was off maybe an inch or so on one side, we had placed pavers 4x4x2 under the legs before starting to fill, most pavers were level to the the ground edge, we filled the pool more and waited for it to settle more but could still move the legs. We then dug a couple of pavers lower into the ground where one side was higher, we added most of the water and checked the level and it was right on. Checked the level a week later and it was perfect. Just be sure the vertical posts are level and not bowing in or out. Take your time, and remember how much 6000 gallons of water weighs!
Did you actually use a leveler and level the legs straight up and down and sideways I don't know how to tell if my legs are correctly installed or where they should be thank you
@Sharon Whaterbury did you use a leveler on your legs for the straight up and down and to tell whether they were in too far or out too far that's one problem we're having we don't understand how the legs work we put the band at the bottom on the outside where the legs are on the outside I've seen pictures of people's pool where some are on the inside some are on the outside it gets really confusing any info would be appreciated
@@lilcrazy102175 we eye balled it, all good.
Nice job I have to do the same and I'm nervous but keep my fingers crossed
Man, thank you for this video. I need to do the same thing. I'll need to drain my pool about half way 1st. I have a good bit of lean on the low end. The posts on the low end have sunk and now the posts are no longer vertically level. So I have to come up and in.
As I sit here watching your video, I have attached 2 pool noodles to my 18 × 9 x 4' intex drain plug. Ugh! I have yard drains & have the noodles angled to flow right into them. 1 corner sunk almost 3 " making that corner a weak spot. I will empty the pool & level area. Forgot the crazy rain we had & how it compacted the soil or caused it to flow down the street. It is hard soil now & this is gonna cost me time & resources, but no way could I do what you did. Great job!
Smart man
Haaaa At the 5:13 mark when you released the jack and the pool leg came down into place, I simultaneously said “oh” at the same time as you. Lol
I have a huge rectangle pool that's low on one side. I am confident your simple method will work for me! Thanks!
Awesome! Take it slow and easy and let me know how it turns out.
I’d like to know how that worked?
Man your smart thanks alot good idea
That was a great idea and it really worked well. I’ve had the same problem with my pool. I wouldn’t be able to do that though because mine is an Intex rectangular pool.
Mi e too. Just drained 3900 gallons of water, leveled area, filling it again. Looks like it's less than 1" variance & I can live with that
I seriously cannot believe how much of a genius you are. We fixed out major faux pas in less than 20 minutes (we are dumb and put some legs on concrete and some on grass (I know if we had thought it thru we would have realized that was a bad idea and that the grass feet would start sinking
Jacked it up, put down some large 2x4s to balance weight and its actually within 1" margin!!
You. Are. A. Lifesaver ❤
Glad I could help. I’m far from a genius though... just ask my kids 😂
Great idea, I have the same coleman pool but mine is rectangular and not leveled. I'll give it a shot
Cheers
We just did this this past weekend
Worked perfectly!!!
Thank you so much!
We had to go quiet a bit higher this year to level it again
However
It was done fast and strong
My husband made the wood pole
My son & I lifted and put slabs under them
Had to go one one one one
Then back to first one and do again
Love this man!
That’s awesome! Glad it worked well for you.
I did close to the same thing! Was not quite as inventive with my jig. I'll have to keep that one in the memory bank. Thanks for sharing.
What size pavers did you use
@@petescouve
I used 3x6x1 inch thick pavers. It was the smallest I could find.
And that's the way to do it!
Really great video I’ll pay you to come re level my moms same size lol
Genius
I understand your frustration- I was watching your video for the purpose of helping myself. I've watched several different types of different backyard ideas and I was thinking maybe you could try using firefome retardant foam filler to help separate the pool from the concrete. It would not completely solve the problem but it might ease the pressure of the concrete wear and tear verses hard foam wear and tear. See below a2 photos of the product I am talking about. I use it for all kinda stuff. Good luck and thank you for your info.
I have the same pool, same jack, and same issue haha you sir have earned a sub. wish i could buy you a beer!
That’s pretty cool! Feel free to buy me one any time! 🤣
New to this What's the weight capacity does your jack hold up? Looking forward to trying this method after I already drain half of my water out of the pool.
Oh wow! I have half a pool unlevel but not worried about it wouldn’t be my first to be this way and I have never had one collapse.
I wish you luck with it I got same pool I'm replacing it after 3 years the first year the one of the windows started leaking I've patched it the next year the other window started leaking so now we got one without windows. I wish you luck with your pool, thank you for sharing the
We’re going onto our 4th season and it’s still holding up well.
Awesome. I’ve had a lot of people ask me about this! I’m gonna see if I can share your video on the community tab!
You have a video to make the tool to lift the pool?
I used 4 48” 2x4 and 3 pavers. one board and paver on each pole next to the one I’m adjusting. 2 boards on the one I’m lifting with alternating with a rubber mallet to slowly raise the height and not strain the pool in only one location
Sounds like you had a good plan there.
I don’t even have a pool anymore but great idea
You should totally get another pool and try this! it's great!
I built something similar after watching a few other videos. Adjusted a few blocks under the legs. But it was because the blocks were too far under the liner and it started tearing.
How far away do the pavers/stone need to be? Some of mine, on the legs, the front of the cap on the leg is flush with the paver edge , some are only an inch away from pool liner. I have one paver that got missed and it’s corner is 1/4” from the liner. I’m not sure what to do about that corner? I was going to put a rolled up rag in there, or some kind of rubbery caulking, or even a table corner safety thing like for baby proofing. Suggestions?
I have the legs right up to the edge of the stone. You just need to watch it as you fill the pool. Every pool will expand a little different. And I just moved them a little bit as the pool filled. You’ll see. Just keep your eye on it.
Very cool idea! I do pool DIY also, great video! Subscribed
Jack
We did that today with wood, but I'm buying pavers tomorrow at lowes. We got tons of rain and it made it almost 3 inches off. 🤪
Be sure the ground is some what level. I you just level the top rails without the ground level, you put to much stress on the liner and it will leak.
You should patient that jack lift for pools!!
You’re like the third person to say that!
Patience is a virtue
i had to do that with our pool after a few months thats why i put paver blocks under every leg
I did the same thing!
How can you be sure the pavers don’t damage the liner? I’m finally ready to assemble after weeks of ground prep and leveling and am so worried about what to use to support the legs! Help
This year i decided to counter sink 12x12x1 inch blocks in the ground level with our pool circle. It did however create a bigger slope on one side as it is a bit low but only in two spots. Since its an adult only pool, yes we have zero kids, we feel confident that this year will be okay but i will have to raise these blocks up about an inch or so. It is slightly off from last year due to natural ground erosion through the off months. I wanted to try this approach but given this liner is on its 4th year and patched all over i cant risk the stress on the liner at this point. Great idea though
That sir is freakn ingenious. Im looking to put up a pool and my biggest fear is my ground is soft and not very level. Something like what u built would go a long ways to maintaining its level. I just saw my neighbors pool crash and burn because she didnt prep the ground first and then we had a big rainfall.
When I put mine in 5 years ago, I was going to build it up on sand.. But researched it and ended up digging everything out to level virgin dirt, added a thin coat of sand, rolled it with a sod roller and then put the pool up as level as possible.. Had to hand dig out 14 inches on the highside for a 26x52 it's not perfect but it's still standing and super glad I went through the extra steps.. All the weight of that water will pickup every crease or shoe print in the sand after the pool is filled.. It turned out great..
Use cement pavers under each pole.
i tried just that,,, the pool rubbed on the cement paver and made a hole in the side of the pool.... bets way was to create a tamped solid base extending out 2 feet past all side of the pool, then landscape fabric, (the good kind)
Hurricane Homestead...that name reminds me of being in Homestead during hurricane Andrew
you need to patent that and sell it... awesome
A cherry picker works great too!
You made it "look" level.... lol Come on man, you and I both know you still have a DEEP END! ha
Well since the liner of the pool didn’t settle, just the leg holding it up I only put the leg back to where it originally started. So technically it had a shallow end and I fixed it back to level. Thanks you the input though, and the over compensated ellipsis…..
Jacking up without removing water is a recipe for disaster - I bet at least 50% of the time this results in damaging the liner. I had to do some fixes on mine as well, and thought about this approach, but then said NOPE, and drained the pool first. A pain for sure, and a waste of water, but beats spending hundreds on a new liner!
Agree 100% pools are not designed for jacking up like this and structural damage is certainly possible.
Quick question. Great help and thanks for this solution! However, when we were doing this, we had 2 legs move out too far, I'm guessing because of the weight of water and were not able to push them inward. How am i gonna be able to fix that problem? Any ideas?Anybody?
Hi question what if I have cement floor and I cant level the ground can I put bricks under the pool poles would that be a good idea or damage the pool
Have you had to replace that liner yet? When I was shopping for a pool this year, I wanted one like yours. But the reviews about the little window busting out helped me to decide to get one without a window.
Just filled it up again this year and it’s holding strong. Looks like we might get a third season out of it. 😁
The surface in my patio has a little inclination, exactly in the direction of the drain hole in it. Does this work only by leveling the frame? Should I also level the surface with foam or other material? Thanks for your advice.
The instructions say to level the area as best as possible, with that being said I don’t think a couple of inches at the bottom will affect the pool that much. If it were me, I’d just level the frame and leave it at that, but I have no idea if that is what you are “suppose” to do.
