- Despite what many think, these events are not abusing animals. Animals are not as sensitive to pain as humans and recover quickly, like someone after a intense workout. I believe all these events have on site veterinarians and members of the Humane Society to ensure animals are healthy and conditions safe as possible. No cowboy/rancher or anyone who attends these events wants to see any animal suffer or die. Period.
look im a barrel racer and i love the rodeo but this event is just plain mean. im mean letting the horse drag the rope around, could trip them and not only endager the horse but also the rider and i have seen plenty of times when these races happen fingers in the horses eyes, nose, and twisting their ears. its nothing but a scary painful experince for these poor horses

I think animals feel pain like people. For instance a broken bone is equally painful to any species; person, dog, horse or rat. I also believe purposely terrifying an animal for extended period is abuse. I see the horse breathing heavily not necessarily like an athlete "after an intense workout" but exhaustion from fear induced struggle and straining. Different from like a barrel horse race. I do believe most people who attend and compete in rodeos believe they are not abusive and truly do not want to physically harm the animal, but they still fail to see the body language and the likely motivation a horse would have to buck or struggle or flee. It's hard to realize, I understand, especially when it's a part of your childhood or livelihood. I used to always go to rodeos myself and wild horse races were my favorite. But some things we just need to let go, we're better than this.

totally agree! studies show horses have thicker skin that ppl. it would hurt from ropes or a whip a bit more

Watch the SHARK animal cruelty rodeo's and then tell me animals, especially horses are not sensitive to pain.
Dangerous for people and horses and not an effective way to train horses.I suspect those horses are kept by the rodeo for this event.
