      I know you're probably /s'ing me, but I'll take the risk.
      He means that since they prerecord the MailBags to cover weeks when they're ot available, he knows this one is airing when he's on holiday. So he's speaking for his future self when he says "...cause I'm currently on a beach somewhere"

    I have run across so many artists who get angry about the idea of talent. I kinda get it. They deserve to get credit to the years of work they've put in. And it's so frustrating to hear someone saying, "I could never do that," when you know they could with enough practice and instruction. They're 100% right about those things.
    But c'mon. Calculus 2 was one of the hardest classes I ever took. I took several math classes that were very difficult for me. And having briefly been a math teacher, I can tell you it's maddening that so many people have been allowed to believe they're just inherently bad at math, when it's obvious that they have the capability. We're not only failing to teach them well, we're setting them up to feel helpless with numbers for the rest of their lives. So yeah, fully agreed that achievement still takes hard work, and it's awful when people believe they can't learn because they don't have some mysterious, inborn talent.
    But I'm not going to pretend that I didn't have an easier time in math than many other students. How much is innate, how much is early education, and how much is an expectation of success, from both myself and others? I dunno, there are lots of factors that can fall under what we think of as "talent." But one way or another, I ended up mostly having an easier time in math than other people. And there are subjects where I had a harder time than most. I don't want people to think there's something wrong with them if they struggle in math, nor do I want to feel like I'm incapable of learning history, just because it requires more work on my part. It's okay to admit that people don't always have an equal start in every area of life!

    They start talking about skill in videogames and boardgames being a learnable thing and flax takes it to football and athleticism without missing a beat. Relatedly, I don't know how you can hear that Messi started training at 4 and point to that as evidence of in born talent rather than years and years of skill building.

    natural talent matters, but only really matters at the top of the top of every "skill"
    for messi, he's just one of thousands of kids who have been playing and training hard since they could play. every single top class player is like that, everyone needs to be like that to be a world class player but STILL messi is messi. that little edge compared to his peers
    talent does matter but only when the playing field is leveled by the fact that everyone has trained just as hard

    i'm calling bullshit, mosquitos aren't number 1. they carry malaria, which is actually caused by a parasite within the mosquito, and other diseases which are carried by viruses and bacteria, but the mosquito itself isn't deadly. humans at #2 is sketchy too..

    • @ChonkyMonkey1
      @ChonkyMonkey1 Před 2 měsíci +2

      They do say the list comes with an asterix saying some of these animals are noted as deadly "through spreading diseases" and not the animal itself being a killer.
      But yes, there could be a different list without diseases.
