EVERYSECOND I don’t have the mindset that progress is bad & it was not intended to come across that way, I just saw “connecting mirror to WiFi” and thought it was crazy how technologically developed our world has become so rapidly. As when you think of things that have WiFi, a mirror certainly isn’t the thing that comes to mind. I wasn’t saying its bad to technologically advance every day objects, just crazy that we do/can now! :)

Not sure if you've set your height and weight for a more accurate calorie burn (or if you even can do that), but the calories it gives you reminds me of the generic calories burned on treadmills for example before entering in your height and weight, which are generically preset to an average man, meaning it will tell you you've burned waaayyy more calories. Maybe that's the reason for the discrepancy?

Stanford did a study looking at calories burned using different fitness watches and they all were very different. It’s just a calculation and different devices calculate calories different. So that’s where the discrepancy is coming from. It’s best to use the numbers as a guide. I usually am more conservative and assume the lower value is more accurate.

Your heart rate belt is much more accurate than your Apple Watch. Since the Apple Watch has so many other features the heart rate isn’t as accurate. Fun fact: test it on a water bottle and you’ll see it still has a heart beat. The heart rate belt is much more accurate as it sits beneath your sternum next to your heart. Calories burned is all based on how hard your heart is working. Even when you did yoga and you don’t feel like you worked as hard, anytime your heart rate goes up you’re burning more calories. I work in the fitness industry and have degree in exercise science but mostly for me it’s from personal experience as I noticed my heart rate belt showed more calories than my fit bit. Great video! Loved how you broke everything down! P.S. make sure all your stats you put in is correct like age, weight, etc as that attributes to what your actual max heart rate should be. If you notice if you’re in those higher active zones barely out of breath then change your age to 5 years younger. If you feel way too out of breath at those higher burning zones add 5 years to your age. (Typical max heart rate is calculated with formula 220 - age) but that is standard and if you are more in shape and your zones aren’t as challenging that’s a hack how you can adjust it.

2:49 in video duration, I would rely more on your smartwatch than the mirror since its not in direct contact with your body like the smartwatch is... And not only that but if it continues to state that you are burning twice the amount of calories then you can always do a little math and divide by 2 to get a general estimated calculation of how many calories you've burned.

Generally speaking chest strap heart monitors are more accurate at monitoring your heart rate, but knowing calories burned is really just an estimate/algorithm based on your age, weight, height, and bmr.

Loved the concept, usability of the mirror can be enhanced to everyone than just a gym instrument. What if the mirror can show you your 360 view ( user turn around him/herself and see the recording in mirror instantly). The mirror should be able to take and save your full length pictures everyday and compare the weekly, monthly even yearly changes to your bodyline. Last but not least, will love if a smart mirror lets me see how various cloths (from my wardrobe or shop) fit on me without me actually trying them (like snapchat beard filter )..

I have the Peloton and Horizon Treadmill and am looking for an idea mirror to complete my cardio/physical workout. So The Mirror and the Tonal were my final 2 candidates. Tonal was ruled out because you NEED to mount it and be mindful of the weight constraints. (e.g. if you bench 350 already per arm, then this mirror may not work for you. You'll end up ripping it out of the wall. Plus all the training is pre-recorded (ZERO live instructors), so the programs will get stale in a week. Especially when most of the videos appear to be cartoonish or exaggerated in nature.
The Mirror however from what you portrayed looks amazing, aesthetically pleasing, but most importantly does NOT need to be hung on the wall and it's portable. Notwithstanding that it is 1/2 the price of tonal mind you.
I don't think you gave a fair assessment of the mirrors programs because it was not intended for confined spaces.. that's like doing jumping jacks in your coat closet. That's notwithstanding, if you placed the mirror in an 8 x 8 or 12 x 12 space. The living room is ideal for more modest settings like an LA condo hehe..
As for the calorie discrepancy: The apple watch is discerning between active and resting energy and relies heavily on vital statics and skin contact. That said, you will want to adjust your watch's setting, make sure the stats you provided is accurate (e.g. height, weight..etc). Also, you're watch looked loose on your arm. You should move it up and also make sure it is snugly on your skin so it can take a more accurate measurement of your heart.
In all, thanks for the review. I am definitely getting the mirror as an added collection to my total workout regimen as it has (and on that final note) live instructors which I think is a major plus and similar to what I enjoy with my Peleton and treadmill :)

I have P90X (about $130) and I burn 600 calories per workout (as per my active watch- not an Apple watch). It comes with a book on which combinations of which workouts achieve your goals and each workout is only an hour. Sticking to that.

6:06 in video duration, So are you able to record while you workout to upload on CZcams or a movie editor application - I thought that was the whole purpose of this mirror invention for workout instructors to not struggle too much and for people to have fun recording themselves while working out, You are able to take pictures though right?

Apple watches don’t really work for any workout that isn’t a run or a walk. I’ll do a 20 min hiit workout or a full length spin class, and my watch will tell me I haven’t moved at all.
