  • Today is Wednesday, July 6, 2022, and I'm taking my Super Cub out for a work commute today. I'm rambling on multiple topics, so skip around with the chapter markers below.
    Saddlemen Standard Sport Tunnel Bag: amzn.to/2WwmHTE
    Kijima Rear Carrier: japan.webike.net/products/240...
    Kijima Bag Supports: japan.webike.net/products/239...

    Garmin Zumo 396 LMT-S: amzn.to/3xrnWlt
    I think that I might leave this ‪@saddlemenusa‬ Sport Tunnel Bag on the Cub semi-permanently. It fits onto my Kijima rear rack perfectly, and it neatly hauls a ‪@schlotzskys11‬ large deluxe original sandwich, four bottles of water, and other stuff with plenty of room to spare... plenty of room to spare... plenty of room to spare. Echo? Dang, this thing is big! 🤣👍

    Personally i would want you to take the Navi. Because its kind of an "unticked box".
    The only real problem i see is 1)Fuel/range performance is horrible. The Navi already does bad MPG and you're gonna be on full throttle all day for days,and 2) You will be slowing Adrian down considerably. Even if you fix your air/fuel mixture and add fuel cells,you're stuck doing 50-55mph while Adrian is able to do nearly 70.
    Smart choice:PCX.
    Adventurous(possibly lunatic🤣) choice:Navi.

      That's the most common question that I get about the mini-motos. The Super Cub is definitely my favorite out of the trio right now. I might add a 2023 Honda Grom to the stable sometime soon, so we'll see if it can top the SC... that'll be a tough task! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      Thanks for the feedback, and greetings from the USA! Our fuel prices are still rising... Texas is $4.20/gallon, and our national average is $4.66 as of today for base unleaded gasoline. i rode my wing today. haven't rode in awhile. it felt so scary at first. i was just taking my time to Kountze but when i looked down i was running 90 mph. a couple times. ok question about the Navi will have the power to pull all the gear.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  Před 2 lety +1

      Howdy, Glen! I actually got my SilverWing running again and ride it home from the warehouse a few days ago! The problem was in the starter switch... it's still a bit hitchy, so I need to rip the switch pod apart for a thorough cleaning.
      I think the Navi would have enough steam to run the Cannonball, but it'll be a slow ride. I wouldn't load it too heavily... definitely less stuff than I took on the Super Cub last year. It will certainly need a better rear rack that can reliably support about 25-30 pounds of gear and supplies:
      - spare rear tire
      - spare CVT belt and rollers/sliders
      - oil change kit
      - emergency road kit (flat kit, tools, tire levers, first-aid, etc)
      - lightweight motocamping kit
      - minimal personal effects (2 changes of clothes, personal hygiene, etc)
      - electronics and A/V gear for recording and live streaming the journey (that's the biggest challenge)
      Taking the Navi on the SCBR would definitely be a challenge, but that's the appeal! 😉👍 --QM

      Howdy, Tim, and thanks for the feedback! That red auxiliary tank is one of only two "Neil tanks" in existence! I have one on my Cub, and a friend of mine, Adrian, has the other one. Our buddy, Neil, custom fabricated those tanks and mounting cradles for us before we left on our 10K-mile trip for the 2021 Scooter Cannonball Run.
      They hold about 1.3 gallons, but they aren't plumbed into the main fuel supply. We used them as emergency fuel supplies and as transfer tanks during our extended road trip. You can see it in action here: czcams.com/video/NYjmV7FqLOM/video.html . Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      I'm already a Cannonball Run alumni after completing it last year in the Super Cub. The routes are always different, so it's more about prep and perseverance than anything else.
      The 2023 run might be a good opportunity to try the Navi because it's "only" 3170 miles compared to last year's 4550 mile route: scootercannonball.com/route . My round trip will be around 6K miles after riding to and from the race start and end points. Fuel capacity and range would be the big hurdles for the Navi. 😉👍 --QM

  • @joelb08
    @joelb08 Před rokem +2

    Do you think the super cub is a good choice for someone who has only ever ridden scooters? I'm a fan of the simplicity of twist and go but also really like the styling and design of the cub. The sifting doesn't seem like to big of a deal once i get used to it since i don't have to feather a clutch.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  Před rokem +3

      The Super Cub is a fantastic machine for riders from any background or skill level. Shifting gears smoothly takes a bit of practice becasue the clutch engagement is controlled by the shift lever itself. The beauty of the Cub's centrifugal auto-clutch is that you never have to worry about slipping the clutch or stalling the engine from a stop.
      There is a different timing and technique to shifting the semi-auto transmission compared to a traditional hand clutch. Smooth release of the shift lever is the trick because that's what re-engages the drive clutch. Experienced motorcyclists need a few miles to retrain their motor memory on shift timing, but newer riders can usually learn to shift smoothly almost immediately.
      Note that there is a second clutch (a traditional wet clutch pack) that is attached to the transmission input shaft, and that's what is briefly disengaged when you operate the shift lever. The centrifugal (automatic) clutch is what drives the input of the traditional clutch, so that takes away the need to manually disengage the clutch while idling at a stop (low engine RPM's below the engagement point). Check out this video if you'd like to see the guts of the clutches: czcams.com/video/rYjO_8luido/video.html . Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    Hey Quasi, your actually considering the Navi? If anybody could pull that off I have little doubt that it'll be you! Adrian can always stick out his leg and push you along whenever you need it! But seriously you think that it could make the trip? I thought years ago someone rode either a 49cc Ruckus or Zuma throughout a SCB. The big worry is how much saddle time are you going to have to put in? All the best - stay hydrated!

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  Před 2 lety +1

      Howdy, Dean! Yep, I'm still considering the Navi for the 2023 SCBR trip. It will definitely be a challenge, but that's part of the appeal. I know that a few people have competed on 50cc scooters like the Honda Ruckus, Yamaha C3, and Yamaha Zuma... not sure how many of them finished or how long the ride days were for them.
      I think it would make the trip without any problems, but the fuel and top-speed logistics are the critical factors. I'll need to dig into the route to check the highways and distances involved to know if its feasible or not. The fuel contingency can be tackled with a larger fuel cell and/or jerry cans. The road speeds and longest day will be more tricky if I'm limited to 45-50 MPH. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      I considered the XMAX 300 for the Cannonball as well, but the displacement cutoff disqualifies it. The Honda Forza 300 slips in just under the limit at 279.2 cc's, so that's what a lot of the riders chose for the 2021 SCBR event. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
